HOW TO CHANGE THE PICTURE SIZE ON YOUR SAMSUNG SMART TV

This is an obsolete picture size, previously used in analog television. It is practically not used, but if you want to watch an old videotape, for example, there is a 3×4 video on it. If you watch such a video in another format, there will be a distortion of the picture. But you can always switch the image size to 3×4 in such cases.

Samsung TV Wont Zoom Out

If your Samsung TV doesnt zoom out, you may have accidentally activated a controller button that altered the image size. Each remote control is unique, and the aspect ratio keys are labeled differently. Familiarize yourself with the buttons on your remote to avoid accidentally zooming in.

Another potential cause is that your screens settings menu is in the Zoom or Wide Zoom configuration.

Regardless of how your TV zoomed in, you can resolve this issue by taking the measures below.

  • On your remote control, press the Home button.
  • Navigate to Settings using the controller. Or, if the button is available, you can choose Settings directly from the TV.
  • Choose Picture.
  • Select the image size that is most appropriate for your display requirements.
  • You can restore your window to its default size by selecting one of the following options:

    • 16:9: Switches the image to 16:9 format.
    • 4:3: Changes the aspect ratio of the image to 4:3.
    • Screen fit: When streaming through HDMI, Component, or DTV connected unit, use this feature to see the entire picture without any cutoff.

You may need to play with the settings before deciding which dimensions you prefer.

Why Does The Picture Menu Grey Out On Samsung TVs

The picture size of a TV is dependent on two things. The source its displaying from and the cable being used by the TV.

When you try to view the TV set in certain sizes youll not be able to unless the cable supports the size and the content being displayed.

The issue of having the picture size menu greyed out is popular.

Its one that can be resolved when you understand that the issue is with the cable in use as well as the content being displayed.

Items To Check Before Changing Settings:

    • Check the TV menu – If the menu is also stretched or distorted, the TV may require service.
    • Change to a different input source – Check Cable, DVD, Blu-ray, etc. If only one device has an issue, check the settings on that device rather than the TV.
    • Check the content – The program, movie, or content you are watching may be broadcast or recorded in an aspect ratio that will not fully fill your screen or may be displayed as stretched or distorted. For example, some movie content is recorded in a 21:9Cinema format that will display with black bars above and below the picture when viewed on a widescreen TV.
    • Check Closed Caption and Extended Data Services – If these features on the TV are turned on, this may cause the picture to be stretched, distorted, or cut off. Try turning off Closed Caption or Extended Data Services to see if the issue is resolved.
    • The issue may be with the program – The top or bottom of the screen may be covered by banners or tickers when watching some news or sports programs. These are part of the broadcast signal and cannot be changed or removed.
    • Some options may not be able to be changed – Some devices and TVs do not have the capability to change the aspect ratio of the picture when a 720p or 1080i signal is being output or received.

Samsung TV Zoom And Position Not Available

How can I Change the Picture Size of my Samsung TV ...

If the Zoom and Position option isnt visible, follow these steps to restore this feature:

  • Press the Menu or Home button on the remote control.
  • Navigate to Settings.
  • Go to Picture Size Settings.
  • Choose Custom.
  • When the Picture Size option is Custom, you can change the zoom and location of the screen. To adjust the position of an analog channels display, widen the picture first and then adjust the placement with your controller.

However, if Custom has been selected, but the Zoom is still unavailable, the problem is with your connecting cable. Two factors partly determine a televisions picture ratio:

    • External inputs
    • The connecting wire

When attempting to watch an image of a specific size, youll be unable to do so unless the cable supports the size and material youre viewing. If youre using a component wire, you can change the picture only if the shown content is 1080i or 1080p. If youre using an HDMI cable instead, the image menu would be available only if the content is 720p, 1080i, or 1080p.

Therefore, to use the Zoom settings, ensure that the cable youre using supports the feature.
