If you subscribe to Apple TV+ you will be able to watch the new Apple shows on Apple devices or on a TV if you have an Apple TV set-top box, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Google Chromecast, or one of the following smart TVs.
The Cheapest Route To Apple TV+
The cheapest way to get Apple TV+ on your TV is with either the Roku Express or the Amazon Fire TV Stick Lite. Both these devices are affordable, but only support up to 1080p streaming.

If you are connecting to a TV that only supports Full HD then that’s no problem, you won’t be missing out, making either of these devices a great choice for a second TV or a bedroom TV. The Roku Express is a small box that connects via cable to your TV’s HDMI input.
It comes with an IR remote – so you need line of sight – but it’s very easy to navigate the interface and there’s support for a wide range of TV services beyond Apple TV+ – Netflix, Amazon Video, BBC iPlayer, Now TV, Hulu, HBO Now and more depending on your region. The downside is that it doesn’t support HDR.

Alternatively, the plugs straight into your TV giving you access to a wide range of services. Naturally it’s designed for Amazon’s content first, but also supports Netflix, Apple TV+ and a lot more.
Coming from Amazon it supports Alexa too, meaning you can use voice searching right from the remote. While it’s also 1080p only, it does support some HDR formats.
Wait Only Apple Gets Dolby Vision And Dolby Atmos
Yep. Dolby Vision HDR video and Dolby Atmos object-based surround audio, two of the most advanced AV formats, are only available via the Apple TV App if you use an Apple TV 4K.
On the other hand no other current devices that support Dolby Vision and Atmos — including Roku TVs like the TCL 6-Series, certain and the and the — will stream content, including iTunes movies, in those formats via the Apple TV app. Other apps on those devices, for example Vudu or Movies Anywhere, might stream the same content in Dolby Vision or Atmos however. It depends on the device and the app.
Meanwhile Samsung TVs don’t support Dolby Vision at all. Whether forthcoming Dolby Vision-capable smart TVs from Sony, Vizio and LG will get that support in the Apple TV app is an open question. And Dolby Vision support might be added to non-Apple devices in the future.

Apple’s TV App Is On Roku Fire TV And Samsung But Only Apple Devices Get Every Feature

Apple has its own app for streaming TV shows and movies, and in typical Apple fashion the name is dead simple: It’s called the TV app. But how it works can be surprisingly complex.
One basic thing about the app is the same on every device: You’ll need it to stream Apple TV Plus, Apple’s Netflix rival that launched Nov. 1 with exclusive shows such as See, a fantasy epic starring Jason Momoa, The Morning Show, a workplace drama starring Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, and For All Mankind, an alternate history of NASA. There’s no separate Apple TV Plus app — subscribers have to watch those shows within the Apple TV app itself. But the app offers more than just Apple TV Plus and its paltry nine launch-day shows. And that’s where things begin to get complex.
In addition to Apple devices — iPhones, iPads, Mac computers and the Apple TV streaming box — the Apple TV app is also available on Roku and devices as cheap as $30. It’s also available on Samsung Smart TVs and, coming “in the future,” TVs from LG, Sony and Vizio.

Hook Up A Laptop To Your Samsung TV
If you cant get the Apple TV app on your older Samsung TV, another option is to run the Apple TV app on a laptop and hook the laptop up to the TV with an HDMI cable. This allows you to stream the Apple TV service on your laptop and then project it onto the larger TV screen via the HDMI cable.
The drawback to this method is that it requires quite a bit of outside equipment to accomplish. Youll need a working laptop with the Apple TV app downloaded and an HDMI cable long enough to reach between the laptop and the back of the TV. Youll also need to change the TVs input to reflect the laptop rather than any cable box you might have hooked up instead.
The upside to using a laptop to run Apple TV on your Samsung TV is that most people already have extra HDMI cables lying around, and many people already have access to a computer with an HDMI hookup. So chances are you wont have to buy anything to get this workaround going.

With all these new apps on your TV, what’s the best way to find something to watch? Just ask Siri. With the Siri Remote, you tell your TV exactly what you want to watch. Or ask Siri to give you a few options, like Find me some action films. Samsung TV Apple TV App Says Video Unavailable
Your free trial or monthly subscription gives you access to Apple TV shows. The Apple TV app also aggregates content from other providers like Hulu, Netflix, and Showtime. But these providers may also require subscriptions.
The Apple TV app has a library tab with a list of all your TV shows and movies. But it only lists Apple purchases. Amazon Prime or YouTube purchases will not show up in your library. They may show up in an Apple TV App search, as many movies are available through the iTunes store. But you will be asked to purchase it again.
Additionally, the Apple TV app offers buttons that will take you directly to Amazon Prime, YouTube, Disney Plus, or other providers. You add these apps to your Apple TV apps home screen, or you can go to them directly from your Home button.

On a 2017 or 2018 Samsung smart TV, you’ll need to download the app from the Samsung app store. From the home menu, navigate to Apps, search for Apple TV, and the app. Once it’s installed, you can place it on the home menu for easy access.

Standalone Apple TV+ App Launches On Older Smart TVs
Apple has been rolling out the Apple TV app to many different platforms, including smart TVs, games consoles, and third-party streaming devices like the or Roku streaming sticks.
In a slight twist, the company is also launching a Apple TV+ app for older LG webOS TVs. Update: The TV+ app is also now available on older Samsung smart TV models.
The launch was first spotted by FlatpanelsHD, and later confirmed by an LG support document.
The standard Apple TV app is available on 2018 and newer LG webOS TVs. This special Apple TV+ app is targeted at 2016 and 2017 models.
Although the name and logo is different, the actual app experience appears identical to the TV app except that you can only watch TV+ content. The Watch Now and other iTunes Store tabs are simply missing.
Somewhat comically, that means this app has just three tabs in the top navigation Apple TV+, Search and Settings. It also means that the Up Next functionality previously found in the Watch Now tab is now awkwardly located as an inline row at the top of the tv+ page.
It is true that many proponents of Apple TV+ including me have wanted less focus on the iTunes Store in the TV app in order to focus on the content available to us with the subscription, but this particular stripped-down incarnation is not quite what we had in mind.

At $5 a month, Apple TV Plus is the lowest-priced premium, ad-free streaming service around, but still packs high-end features like 4K resolution, HDR and mobile downloads. After a slow start it now has more than 50 exclusive, big-budget shows and movies with stars like Jennifer Aniston, Oprah Winfrey and Tom Hanks.
What Can It Do
Obviously, you can watch all kinds of shows on Apple TV 4K. It’ll even suggest things based on how often you use certain apps. The Home Screen is easily navigable and provides ready access to your apps, shows, games, Apple Fitness+ and smart home.
If you want to play Apple Arcade games on your TV, Apple TV 4K is the best way to do it. With native support for the same games you play on your other devices and controller support, it’s a bit like an Apple gaming console… but you’ll need to hunt a bit to find games that play well on the big screen. Grindstone is brilliant for instance, but it’s meant for quick games on my iPhone, not long sessions on my couch. Something like Cozy Grove is perfect though. .
