12 New Marvel TV Shows Coming In 2021 & Beyond

Disney is planning to launch some of its content in the coming months after teasing new series and films for the past year. During an Investor Day event today, the company revealed some exciting release dates for its most highly anticipated series, including Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision, and shared new projects on the horizon that we can look forward to in the years to come.

Disney dropped trailers for Disney+ series Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision, sharing new footage of the superhero shows for fans ahead of their releases this year. WandaVision is set to premiere first on Disney+, kicking off the Marvel lineup on Jan. 15, and after being pushed from its August 2020 release date, Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stans Falcon and the Winter Soldier will now premiere on March 19.

During todays event, we also got some insight into release dates for series like Loki, starring Tom Hiddleston in the titular role, which is expected to premiere on Disney+ in May 2021. Ahead of next years Loki release, Marvel shared some first look footage of the series.

Later this year, we can also expect to see the Marvel animated anthology series What If? premiere some time this summer, while Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will premiere in theaters on a more definitive date, July 9, 2021.

Check out the full lineup of Marvel projects coming up:

The Agatha Harkness Show Means Marvel Is Making Over A Dozen Disney+ Series

Kathryn Hahn is certainly talented enough to hold down her own show, and its cool to see her blowing up so much recently in addition to this, shell also be appearing in Knives Out 2 and playing the lead role in an upcoming Showtime limited series about Joan Rivers.

My only concern here is just how many Marvel series are piling up on Disney+. What If? just wrapped its first season, and theres still Hawkeye to go before the year is out. Then weve got Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Secret Invasion, Moon Knight, Ironheart, Armor Wars, Echo, a show set in Wakanda, more seasons of Loki and What If? And now this. How much time does Disney think I have?

But still, this is one of the more promising of the 30,000 Marvel shows on the horizon.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness In Theaters March 25 2022

With Elizabeth Olsenconfirming there’ll be no Wandavision season 2, we can turn to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, for an update on everyone’s favorite freshly crowned Scarlet Witch.

Rachel McAdams will reprise her role as Dr. Christine Palmer, who first appeared in 2016’s Doctor Strange, and Benedict Wong will return as the sorcerer Wong. Sam Raimi is directing.

“I can tell you that it’s a ride very Sam Raimi. The film is incredibly visually thrilling,” Loki showrunner and Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron said. “John Mathieson, our DP, who shot Gladiator and Logan I think the look of it is going to be unlike anything you’ve seen in the MCU before.”

The film’s title also seems to reference the infinite number of timelines branching off due to the events in the Loki season 1 finale.

Executive producer Brad Winderbaum told Collider that the first season is now only nine episodes long and the second will match it, meaning altogether there will be 18 chapters in total.

We had to push an episode into season two, he said. It was just, honestly, like everything else, that was a COVID impact. There was an episode that just wouldnt hit the completion date, but luckily we do get to see it in the second season of the show.

Theres no release date for the second season just yet, but well keep this page updated with information as it comes in.

When it will be on Disney Plus: late 2021

“Ms. Marvel is a Pakistani-American teen superhero,” Feige said of the 16-year-old from New Jersey. “Earlier this year, during shutdown, we held online auditions all around the world to find our Kamala Khan and we found her in Iman Vallani.”

Here’s how Marvel Studios describes Khan in its official show description:

“A great student, an avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, she has a special affinity for Super Heroes, particularly Captain Marvel. But Kamala struggles to fit in at home and at schoolthat is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life is easier with super powers, right?”

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah , Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will direct episodes. Feige said Vallani will also appear as Ms. Marvel in “Captain Marvel 2,” co-starring alongside Brie Larson.

All 13 Marvel TV Shows Releasing After Loki

All NEW Marvel TV Shows That Are Coming On Disney in 2021 & 2022

Loki is the third MCU TV show to come from Marvel Studios, but it won’t be the last. Like with other film studios under Disney’s umbrella, Disney+ has become an unavoidable corner of several franchises, with TV shows and short films that tie directly into bigger universes. It all started with The Mandalorian in 2019, and it’s continued with Marvel’s WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki in 2021. Some of these series would’ve released in 2020, but they were, of course, delayed due to the pandemic.

Going forward, Marvel plans to interweave MCU films and TV shows together, often introducing concepts on TV that are expanded on in film. One such concept is that of the Scarlet Witch. Wanda Maximoff unlocked a new power within herself in WandaVision, turning her into one of the most powerful beings in the franchise’s history, and that storyline will continue in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness similarly, Loki fully launched the MCU’s multiverse in its season 1 finale, which will have ramifications for the entire MCU, spreading from Spider-Man: No Way Home to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. It’ll also be explored a bit in the next Marvel show, showing just how quickly something can change from one show to the next, not just one season to the next, as is the case with traditional shows.

on August 30, 2021 at 9:35AM PDT

While 2020 may have been a full year without any new Marvel releases, chances are we’re not going to see that again for a very long time. For over a decade, Marvel Studios has built out its movie universe, culminating in Avengers: Endgame. And, of course, Disney isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

Neither is Sony, which owns the rights to some important Marvel characters. While there are a massive amount of new movies and TV shows on the way to further expand the MCU, Sony is continuing to build out its universe of movies based on characters from the Spider-Man franchise. With so many projects in various stages of development and production, though, it can be hard to keep track of them all.

Luckily, we did it so you don’t have to. Take a look at this easy-to-follow guide for a breakdown of every announced or reported Marvel Studios or Sony project based on Marvel characters that are in the works. The projects below are in chronological order, starting with the next MCU release, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special

Marvel Phase 4: Here

Following in the not-so-time-honored space opera tradition of Star Wars, the Guardians will return in Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which will again be written and directed by James Gunn. It’s been a long wait for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 thanks to James Gunn’s firing and subsequent re-hiring at Disney, with him making The Suicide Squad in the meantime, so the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is set to fill in the gap a little bit after both Vol. 2 and the team’s appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder. Quite what form the special will take remains to be seen, but the main cast is returning, and there’s certain to be a lot of weirdness, heart, and humor, all elements that fit perfectly with Gunn’s Guardians and the Christmas season. While unconfirmed, it’d make sense for this to release in November/December 2022.

Days after The Falcon and the Winter Soldier wrapped up its six-episode first season on Disney+, news broke that Marvel Studios is developing a fourth Cap movie with Malcolm Spellman, the lead writer on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

In August, EW confirmed new Cap Anthony Mackie is in as the vibranium shield carrying superhero. We also learned show writer Dalan Musson is also helping to pen the script.

No word yet on if Bucky will be along for the ride, but after learning Mackie had signed on, Sebastian Stan posted about his pal’s news on Instagram story, writing, “Hell yeah!”

“Guardians of the Galaxy” director and writer James Gunn is working on the project himself.

Gunn shared on Twitter that he has been bugging Feige “endlessly” about this special over the years. It’s kind of fitting since “GotG” is more or less a parody of “Star Wars,” which infamously had its own little holiday special.

“We’re going to shoot it during production of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,'” Feige said. “This special will drop the holiday prior to the next ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ film, which hits theaters in 2023.”

All 15 Marvel TV Shows Releasing After Shang

All 12 Marvel TV Shows Releasing After WandaVision

After the release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, there are over a dozen upcoming Marvel TV shows set to further expand the MCU.

The 25th Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, sets up the future of the MCU on the big screen, but there are also a lot of Marvel TV shows releasing afterwards as well. Shang-Chi is another big step forward for Marvel Studios, becoming its first movie with a predominantly Asian cast and crew. While mostly a standalone film detailing the eponymous hero’s story, it does have some connections to the MCU’s past, present, and future.

Most notably, Shang-Chi links directly to Iron Man and Iron Man 3, thanks to the Ten Rings organization and the return of the fake Mandarin, Trevor Slattery. Shang-Chi‘s mid-credits scenes, meanwhile, connect the movie to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and The Marvels, among others. But for all Shang-Chi is mostly concerned with the cinematic future of the MCU, properly kickstarting the movie branch of Phase 4, there are big things to come on the small screen.

Agents Of Shield Season 4

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was the first MCU TV series released, and on Tuesday, September 20, it will return for Season 4 on ABC. However, unlike previous season, the show will now be airing in the 10 p.m. timeslot in order to tackle darker material. There’s a lot of new elements to look forward to, from Jason Mara playing the new head of S.H.I.E.L.D. to Mallory Jansen playing AIDA, the Life Model Decoy whose voice we heard at the end of the Season 3 finale. However, the biggest debut is without a doubt Robbie Reyes, a.k.a. Ghost Rider , played by Gabriel Luna. He will be used to introduce magic and mysticism into Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which, of course, is meant to time with the release of Doctor Strange.

Samuel L Jackson Returns As Nick Fury Once Again In Secret Invasion

When it will be on Disney Plus: TBD

Expect to see even more Skrulls from “Captain Marvel.” The comic of the same name follows shapeshifting Skrulls who have infiltrated Earth for years. This could be a chance to see some dead characters come back to life if Skrulls are pretending to be them.

“Next to ‘Civil War,’ ‘Secret Invasion’ is arguably the biggest crossover comic event of the last 20 years,” Feige said.

Of Course Kathryn Hahn Is Getting Her Own Wandavision Spinoff

Let it never be said that Disney doesnt know how to capitalize on a good thing. WandaVision was the first of several TV series currently being rolled out on Disney+, and its still probably the best. One of the highlights was Kathryns performance as Agatha Harkness, Wandas nosy neighbor who ended up having a much more sinister agenda. She even had a song about it, if youll recall.

Now, Variety reports that Disney is working on a WandaVision spinoff with Hahn at the center. We dont have a title or a release date, but the show is said to be a dark comedy, which sounds about right. Considering that Agatha survived the Salam witch trials, she has a long past for Marvel to mine. Or they could go forward and show us what happened to Agatha after the end of WandaVision.

WandaVision head writer Jac Schaeffer will serve as writer and executive producer on the new show.
