  • Phillies’ Corey Knebel: Agrees To Deal With Phillies

Knebel signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the Phillies on Wednesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Knebel missed several months in 2021 due to a lat injury, but he still posted a strong 2.45 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 25.2 innings across 27 appearances during his first year with the Dodgers. The Phillies still have Jose Alvarado in the bullpen, but Knebel should factor into Philadelphia’s late-inning mix during the 2022 campaign.

    Phillies’ Kyle Dohy: Non

Dohy was non-tendered by the Phillies on Tuesday, but he re-signed with the team on a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to spring training.

Dohy lost his spot on the 40-man roster but will stick around the organization after quickly re-signing with the team. The 25-year-old delivered a scoreless frame in his big-league debut and spent most of 2021 at Double-A Reading, where he posted a 2.17 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 56:16 K:BB in 37.1 innings.

Phillies’ Kent Emanuel: Claimed By Phillies

    PHILS

Emanuel was claimed off waivers by the Phillies on Friday.

Emanuel made his big-league debut at age 28 last season, posting a 2.55 ERA despite a low 19.1 percent strikeout rate in 17.2 innings of relief. He suffered an elbow injury in late May and was shut down for season-ending surgery, though he at least avoided Tommy John in favor of an internal bracing procedure, which gives him a shot to be ready to pitch at some point during spring training. If healthy and effective, he’ll serve as a fine left-handed relief option for the Phillies, but nothing in his track record suggests he’s about to make a push to close games.

    Why The Braves Will Win

Ian Anderson has shown his ability to get groundball outs when he needs them. That is important to do against an aggressive team like the Phillies.

Charlie Morton and Max Fried exploited that in the previous two games. They went after batters and had a lot of success in doing so.

However, the Braves offense is why I believe we will win this game. Theyve shown a lot of confidence this past week.

They know that no matter the situation they can bust open a game at any point and have shown the ability to do that as of late.

Austin Riley has been outstanding this season and continues to show his MVP potential and ability to make appropriate adjustments to be successful in big moments.

Jorge Soler has also been an incredible spark for this offense since being moved into the leadoff position.

He is the closest thing to having Ronald Acuña at the top of the lineup as possible. Obviously, Ronald isnt replaceable but Soler is a similar threat in that he can take you deep at any moment but is also very good at drawing walks when he needs to.

The ability hes had to get on in front of Freeman, Albies, and Riley has been so important for this offenses success.

Jorge was batting .229 in KC but since coming to Atlanta he is batting .269 with a .350 OBP and including 12 HR and 31 RBI. Hes also earned 23 walks and struck out just 43 times with an .860 OPS.

This is definitely what you want to see from a guy at the top of your lineup and I expect more of the same tonight.

    Phillies Pitcher Today: Zack Wheeler

Yummy hamzy mukbang cooking @cooking giant lobster @Real cooking natural life tv @Pizza Cooking

The Phillies ace is on the bump for the series opener, which is exactly how a division race in late September should be.

Zack Wheeler has a 2.79 ERA over 31 starts, with 240 strikeouts over 206 1/3 innings pitched. This is his first season of over 200 innings, as well as his first 200+ strikeout season, and he was the first pitcher in all of MLB to reach both marks this year.

After a rough August in which he allowed four or more earned runs in five of six starts, Wheeler has rebounded in September, not allowing more than one earned run in any of his four appearances thus far. He has a 1.14 ERA and 2.02 FIP this month, and opposing lineups are hitting .207/.274/.299 with a .573 OPS against him. Of course, three of his opponents in September have been bad teams: the Rockies, Mets, and Orioles, so take his numbers this month with a grain of salt.

However, Wheeler has pitched well against the Braves this season. In four starts against them, he has a 1.35 ERA over 26 2/3 innings, with 34 strikeouts, six walks, and four earned runs. The Braves bats have slashed .200/.248/.274 with a .521 OPS against them, and hopefully, those low numbers continue tonight.

Wheeler will go up against Charlie Morton, the veteran righty who returned to the franchise that drafted him way back in 2002, and with whom he spent his debut season in 2008. Morton has a 3.53 ERA over 31 starts this season, with 203 strikeouts, 69 earned runs allowed, and 56 walks issued over 176 innings.

Phillies’ Roman Quinn: Designated For Assignment

Quinn was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Monday.

Quinn has plenty of speed but hasn’t shown much else in parts of five major-league seasons, hitting .228/.306/.355 with 39 steals in 512 plate appearances. He’s also battled far more than his fair share of injuries, most recently missing most of last season and potentially the start of the next due to a ruptured left Achilles tendon. It’s possible he gets claimed off waivers by a team that intends to use him as a fourth or fifth outfielder, but he hasn’t shown enough to suggest he deserves everyday at-bats.

Phillies’ Seranthony Dominguez: No Arbitration Necessary

Dominguez and the Phillies agreed to a one-year, $725,000 deal Tuesday, avoiding arbitration, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Dominguez lost almost two full seasons to Tommy John surgery, returning to throw just a single inning late in the 2021 season. If he’s back to being his former self heading into next season, he could be a weapon at the back of the Phillies’ bullpen, as he owns a career 3.23 ERA and 30.2 percent strikeout rate in 83.2 innings at the highest level.

    Atlanta Braves: Ian Anderson

Ian Anderson came into the 2021 season following an impressive start to his career with the Braves in 2020.

Anderson has struggled a bit at times this season and that was expected. He was going to run into growing pains at some point.

For the season, Anderson is 8-5 and has earned an ERA of 3.60 including 50 walks and 122 strikeouts. His FIP sits at 4.01 as well as a 1.243 WHIP.

But theres some good in there such as a 9.0 strikeout per 9 innings rate and a decent ground ball rate at 49.7 percent.

Through 20.2 innings in the month, Anderson has allowed 11 ER with 9 walks and 24 strikeouts.

However, if Ians last start is any indication, he may have started to figure some things out as he allowed just one run on two hits through 7 innings of work.

This included just one walk and eight strikeouts through that timeframe as well.

Hes also been pretty effective against the Phillies this year as he holds a 3.09 ERA through 23.1 innings pitched in those four games.

    This includes:

The lines for those four games are as follows:

    • May 8th: 6 IP, 6 H, 3 BB, 3 ER, 7 K

So theres a chance Anderson could struggle but he also could go and shut out the Phillies if hes on his game.

Ian also fairs pretty well when pitching at Truist Park as he is 4-1 at home with a 3.58 ERA with 55 K and a .214 opponents average.

    Why The Phillies Will Win

MLB Preview: Miami Marlins Take on Philadelphia Phillies ...

The Phillies have nothing to lose at this point so I expect them to play much better and play the way teams do when theyve got nothing left to lose.

You also cannot expect Bryce Harper, the potential NL MVP, down for very long. Hes bound to get a hit in a big situation very soon.

They have no choice but to win out the rest of the way if they have any shot at the division title and even then thats not guaranteed for them.

Even with the incredible two months that Bryce Harper has put in for the Phillies, it likely wont be enough to get them where they want to go. He looked all but defeated in that dugout last night.

This was supposed to be the place he went to win big games, not experience more of what he did in Washington.

This is the big one kids. Beginning Tuesday night, the Philadelphia Phillies play for all the marbles. Go big or go home.

For their penultimate series of the regular season, the second-place Phillies take on the first-place Braves. The Phillies are 81-75, 2 1/2 games out of first, behind the 83-72 Braves.

Mathematically, there is zero chance of either the Phillies or Braves making the NL Wild Card, so these two teams only hope of postseason baseball is to win the division.

Phillies’ Yoan Lopez: Claimed By Phillies

Lopez was claimed off waivers by the Phillies on Monday.

The Phillies have struggled to put together a bullpen in recent seasons, but it’s not clear that adding Lopez meaningfully changes that. In 32 innings of relief over the last two seasons, the right-hander owners a 6.19 ERA, striking out just 19.6 percent of opposing batters while walking 10.1 percent.

Phillies’ Scott Moss: Catches On With New Organization

The Phillies claimed Moss off waivers from the Guardians on Wednesday.

Before a strained left shoulder ended his 2021 season prematurely, Moss turned in a 7.08 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and a 29:15 K:BB across 20.1 innings at Triple-A Columbus. Though Cleveland didn’t deem the 27-year-old worthy of a spot on the 40-man roster heading into the winter, Philadelphia was seemingly enticed by the excellent 29.9 percent strikeout rate Moss posted before suffering the injury. The Phillies are hoping that Moss will provide some quality starting depth in 2022 if he can move past the shoulder injury and cut down on the free passes.

Phillies’ Garrett Stubbs: Dealt To Philly

Cooking artichokes @Cooking show @cooking spaghetti squash @cooking natural life tv @Yummy pizza

Stubbs was traded from the Astros to the Phillies on Friday in exchange for Logan Cerny.

He was set to be the victim of a roster crunch in Houston, so a change of scenery is probably welcomed by Stubbs. There isn’t much behind J.T. Realmuto on the depth chart in Philadelphia, so Stubbs should compete for the backup catcher job in spring training.

Phillies Game Today: Phillies Vs Mets Lineup Odds Prediction Pick Pitcher TV Channel For August 6

The Philadelphia Phillies have won five in a row, and just swept the Washington Nationals over a four-game series.

Now, theyre home to host the New York Mets in what has to be the biggest series of the season thus far. Why? Because whoever wins tonight is in first place.

The Fightins have picked up considerable ground this week, and are only half a game out of first, thanks to some dominant pitching, a praying mantis, a pair of Harper homers, and the Best Catcher in Baseball coming through in the clutch once again.
