Hbo Officially Shuts Down Its Apple TV Channel Cutting Off Hbo Max Access For Some Users
When WarnerMedia launched its new expanded streaming service, HBO Max, earlier this year, HBO simultaneously stopped participating in Apple TV Channels. This meant that new subscribers could not sign up for HBO through Apple TV Channels, but existing subscribers could continue to access their subscriptions.
HBO appears to have flipped a switch today, however, that completely shuts off access to HBO via Apple TV Channels, including the ability to sign in using your Apple TV Channels subscription information.
: Apple is now sending out an email to affected users informing them that HBO is no longer available and that they will receive a refund. Apple and HBO are offering users a discounted rate for an HBO Max subscription. Here is the full email:

So those who subscribed to HBO through Apple TV Channels could access some HBO content through the TV app, but they could also sign in to the HBO Max app to access all the content at no additional charge via your Apple ID account.
Hbo Max Keeps Freezing/crashing On Apple TV
The two main reasons your HBO Max app will crash is either a firmware bug or an overloaded cache. Keeping both your Apple TV and your HBO Max app up to date will help fix any known firmware bugs that are causing the crash. It may take one or two weeks for the bug fixes to be rolled out to all users.
As I mentioned earlier, you cannot clear the cache on an Apple TV. However, uninstalling and reinstalling the HBO Max app will achieve the same thing because a freshly installed app has a completely empty cache. Using the app for extended periods of time can cause the cache to fill up quickly.
How To Get Hbo Max On Roku
Now that we’ve gotten the most annoying part out of the way, we can get down to brass tacks. First up is Roku, the most popular streaming device manufacturer in the United States. Adding HBO Max to your Roku device’s channel lineup is as easy as adding Netflix or Hulu. Roku’s website has a page explaining this, but if you don’t feel like clicking over to that, allow me to summarize:
Press the home button on your Roku remote and navigate to the “Streaming Channels” menu
Hit the “Search Channels” button and type in “HBO Max,” or at least enough of it for the search auto-fill to show the app to you
Scroll over to HBO Max, select it, and then press the “Add Channel” button
There! All done. It should be on your Roku home page now. If you have a Roku voice remote, you can skip the tedium of typing in the name of the app and just say “HBO Max” into the microphone for a quicker solution.

Apple TV Wont Play Hbo Max

Generally, you need a download speed of at least 5MB/s to stream high definition content on the HBO Max app. Any 4K streaming should be supported by speeds of 50MB/s or more. If you are not getting these speeds, your stream will pause constantly and something will need to change.
The content quality on HBO Max is automatically adjusted based on the internet speeds available on your network. Unfortunately, if the internet speed is still too slow, you cannot adjust this manually to standard definition. The HBO Apple TV channel has been removed on the server-side, meaning that you are unable to use it anymore. The move comes after HBO launched the new HBO Max streaming service. With the release, new HBO subscribers would not be able to sign up using Apple TV Channels. But this was still available for those who already had an account.
