Drylined and dot and dab walls are similar to stud walls except that the plasterboard is stuck up to brickwork or breeze block with blobs similar to cement. These would be the âdotsâ and âdabsâ. This is now a very popular technique for new builds properties and refurbishments and it is considerably quicker than apply two or three coats of plaster like is required on solid walls. The plaster board is stuck up and then a finish skim coat is applied over the top, in the UK this is true at least. Now dot and dab walls can be very friendly when it comes to hiding TV cables behind them, but this really does depend on a few things. The gap behind the plasterboard, if youâre lucky this will be about an inch, but it could be only half a centre-metre. The distance you need to route the cables and where the blobs of adhesive are in relation to where you want to route the cables.
If your lucky that will be it, screw your back boxes in place. Maybe install a brush faceplate over the top to keep tidy and away you go. I recommend cutting the top and bottom of the metal back-boxes away to allow the cables though. This will create a sharp edge which itself could damage the cable when pulled through. You need to be especially careful with power cables.I recommend just with some electrical insulation tape covering over the cut edge of the metal back box to protect the cables.

Can You Run Wires Behind Studs Instead
Any wires should not be run behind studs between wall linings and timber at all.
Cables and wires are much safer when you drill holes into the center of the studs and guide your cable bundles through the designated holes that are the right size.
This not only provides ample air circulation around the wiring to prevent any heat buildup but will also keep your wall linings flat without any bulges.
And also prevents any friction damage to the wires which can become a fire risk over time.
Use A Baseboard Raceway
If your electrical outlet or extension cord is not right behind your TV stand or wall-mounted TV, you can use a baseboard raceway to hide your wires.
Baseboard raceways work in the same way as raceway kits we described above do. The only difference is that they sit just above your baseboard. They blend right in and once you install them, you wont even be able to tell theyre there.
Similar to raceway kits, baseboard raceways also have adhesive strips on their back. You can use it to securely attach them to your baseboard without damaging it or having to drill into it.
Also similar to raceway kits, baseboard raceways are also made of plastic. That means you can cut them down to size so they attach perfectly to your baseboard. You can also cut them at a 45-degree angle so that you can run cables around corners in your home.
You can either paint them or just find a baseboard raceway that matches the color of your baseboard. That way, it will entirely blend in and no one will be able to tell that anything extra has been installed.
Baseboard raceways are great for TV stands but if you have a wall-mounted TV, your wires will still be visible as they run down from your TV to the baseboard raceway.
To fix this, you can use a combination of the vertical raceway kit and baseboard raceways.
Use the former to hide wires coming from the TV down to the baseboard and use the latter to hide the wires going along the baseboard to the power outlet.

Use A Fabric Cable Management Sleeve
Fabric cable management sleeves or fabric cord concealers can be a great option for you if your TV is somewhere in the middle of the room Not against a wall or on a piece of furniture next to a wall.
Since your TV is in the middle of the room, raceway kits and baseboard raceways are out of the question. The simple solution of using a fabric cable management sleeve will allow you to hide your cables and also keep them organized.
