I was convinced by an AT& T / DirecTV sales person that I only needed one Genie and that I could watch all programming from all other Smart TVs using a DirectTV app built into TV apps, AppleTV or a Fire Stick. I was told I could do all this with the DirecTV service . Turned out to be untrue. I initially called to request DirecTV Now, but they are obviously heavily incentivized to keep people on their satellite service, even if it means misleading the customer.
So the man who sold you service either flat out gave you wrong information, or was referring to individual channel streaming apps.
