Is Apple TV Plus Available As An Apple TV Channel
Apple TV Plus is Apple’s standalone streaming service, but you access it through the Apple TV app like other add-on channels. There’s also a specific menu tab for Apple TV Plus at the top of the app.
Apple TV Plus gives you access to a growing catalog of original series for $5 a month. Receiving multiple Emmy awards, including outstanding comedy, “Ted Lasso” is the breakout hit from Apple TV Plus.
Apple offers free trials of varying lengths for Apple TV Plus. Any new subscriber can claim a free seven-day trial. If you purchase an eligible Apple device, you can get three months of access for free. With a six-month free trial for new and existing subscribers, PlayStation 5 owners are currently offered the best deal for Apple TV Plus.
Celebrities Show Off Their New Series On Apple TV Plus
Apple quickly established its bona fides in subscriptions businesses with Apple Music. But the content on Apple Music is essentially the same as every other music service. They all have tens of millions of songs. Apple Music has been successful largely because of its presence on the iPhone, already in the pockets of millions of people. It hasn’t been nearly as successful working the other direction, acting as a lure to buy the latest Apple gadget.
Original video from big-name stars and creators you can’t watch anywhere else, however, could be different.
Apple clearly has a hunch it will be.

Is the Apple TV Plus streaming service worth checking out?
UPDATE: There’s a new Apple streaming device on its way, with the Apple TV 4K 2021 having been confirmed at the Apple Spring Loaded event on April 20. The new device adds a revamped Siri remote and high frame rate capability, as well as color calibration functionality through compatible iPhones.
Apple TV Plus is now firmly in the second half of its first year in the streaming service market, and it’s tough to figure out how it’s doing. Despite Apple’s investment in big, expensive programming with massive stars like The Morning Show, the platform doesn’t compare to the likes of Netflix and Hulu right now. Clearly, though, Apple is prepared for the long haul, with loads planned for 2020 and beyond, including its expensive-looking adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s Foundation.
The busy flow of Apple TV Plus shows hasn’t ceased in 2020, either, with this year bringing the likes of Chris Evans drama Defending Jacob, and videogame-themed Mythic Quest from the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-creators. The future of movies on the platform is exciting, too: Apple is backing a $150 million+ movie from Martin Scorsese starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, according to reports.
At WWDC 2020, Apple confirmed the Apple TV app was coming to Sony and Vizio TVs this summer, too, allowing more people to access its content. Greyhound, starring Tom Hanks, is the latest big release on the service.

How Do I Change The Streaming Quality So I Dont Burn Through My Data
A single episode of an Apple TV+ show like See can use over 2GB of your mobile data. You can prevent Apples service from hogging so much data on your iPhone or iPad by going to Settings > TV. Youll see options to use cellular data or not, can change between Automatic and High Quality streaming, and can change the quality of downloads over cellular.
What To Watch On Apple TV+
Apple TV+ is still in its infancy but has already seen breakout hits including comedy Ted Lasso and hard-hitting drama The Morning Show.
Apple aims for premium quality across its drama, comedy, and documentary TV shows and movies so everything should reach a reasonable level of quality and hopefully be worth your time. In terms of personal recommendations, I suggest starting with Ted Lasso, For All Mankind, Foundation, Trying, Swagger and the movie Finch.

What Devices Can Stream Apple TV Plus
Apple’s programming is available on all its devices with the Apple TV app.
Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston revealed the name of their Apple TV Plus series, The Morning Show, at an Apple’s event.
In addition, Apple TV Plus is available on some competitors’ devices. Apple’s TV app is available on Roku and Fire TV, two of the most widely used streaming devices in the US, and for smart TVs from Samsung and LG. You can watch it on Sony and Vizio smart TVs via AirPlay, and the TV app should be available for those smart TVs now.
Apple widened support for Apple TV Plus to game consoles in the fall. In October, Sony said its Playstation 5 would support Apple TV Plus at launch. A couple of weeks later, Microsoft said Apple TV Plus would be supported on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
Subscribers will also be able to watch Apple TV Plus on the web at tv.apple.com.
But the Apple TV app isn’t available on any mobile devices except iPhones or iPads. That means Apple TV Plus subscribers with non-Apple phones — meaning, the huge population of people with Android phones — need to stream to their mobiles via the web, rather than in an app.

Whats Next If Anything
Which brings us back to the original question: Why does this product still exist, and is there anywhere for it to go next? Gruber and Thompson suggest that perhaps the way forward is to lean into an identity as a low-end gaming console. Maybe amp up the processor power, bundle a controller, and try to use Apple Arcade to emphasize that this is a box that is for more than watching video.
The thing is, thats really been the story of the Apple TV for the last few years, and so far as I can tell, its basically gone nowhere. Apple isnt Nintendo or Sony or Microsoft when it comes to gaming. Apples track record with gaming products isnt solid, to say the least. Its hard for me to see this succeedingbut it doesnt mean Apple wont try.
The other possibility that Ive come up with is to merge the Apple TV with some other technologies in order to make something more than just a simple TV streamer. Gaming can be a part of that, yes, but there needs to be more. Broader HomeKit support, perhaps with support for other wireless home standards, would help, as would a much more sophisticated set of home automations.
And if Apple really wants to continue to play in the home-theater space, Ive been saying for years that theres room for an Apple SoundBar, that could integrate the big sound of HomePod with the Apple TV software to create a solid music and video experience.

What Is Apple TV 4k
While priced higher than all of its competitors, Apple TV 4K may end up being the best bargain in streaming devices. Apple TV 4K is great for many reasons, the best of which being that if you own one, Apple will upgrade your iTunes movie library to 4K.
The average cost difference between an HD version of a movie and a 4K version of a movie is around $5-$10. If you have ten movies in your iTunes movie library, you are getting around a $75 value in the upgrade to 4K alone. If you have twenty-five movies, Apple TV 4K practically pays for itself.
If you don’t already own a movie, Apple will let you pick up the 4K version for the same price as the HD. You won’t have to pay a premium to get the same movie in its best format.
In terms of picture quality, Apple TV 4K supports both 4K resolution and HDR10. While 4K has all the buzz, High Dynamic Range may be more important to picture quality. As Apple puts it, 4K gives you more pixels on your screen, while HDR gives you better pixels. Instead of just increasing the resolution, HDR gives you a higher range of colors that increases the quality and depth of the image. Apple TV 4K also supports Dolby Vision, which is a form of HDR with an even higher color range.
But Apple TV isn’t just about streaming video. Its powerful processor makes it able to play games, and it has so much power that you might start seeing productivity apps like Numbers and Pages come to the Apple TV.
Apple TV Channels And Other Content
Although theyre not technically part of the Apple TV Plus program, Apple TV Channels are a great way to get more out of your experience with the Apple TV app while waiting for more original content. It turns the service into something more like traditional cable TV, but without all the bloat.
The Apple TV Channels program is essentially an à la carte selection of TV channels and streaming services that you can subscribe to within the Apple TV app. This allows you to consolidate most of your streaming services into one place, with Apple getting a cut of every Apple TV subscription.
Its easy and convenient to subscribe with your Apple account from within the app, but your existing subscriptions outside of the app cannot be transferred over. You will need to cancel them and resubscribe through Apple TV.
However, there are a few other potential benefits to subscribing via Apple TV Channels, such as higher bitrate streams and media downloads. It also makes it easier to manage your Apple TV subscriptions from one place. Many subscriptions can also be shared with up to six family members, just like Apple TV Plus.
Heres a full list of confirmed Apple TV Channels:
- Acorn TV
- The Great Courses Signature Collection
- Up Faith & Family
Apple TV subscription fees will vary by channel but typically hover around $5 or more. Apple TV Channel availability may vary by region, and HBO Now is no longer accepting new subscribers after the launch of HBO Max in 2020.

K Upgrade Of Older Library Titles
One feature to love about the Apple TV is the 4K upgrade on video content bought and rented via iTunes. If you have a large, pre-existing library of iTunes movies youve been buying for years, your device will automatically play them in the best image quality available. As someone who spent a ton of money on DVDsonly to spend even more switching over to BlueRaythis free upgrade is a blessing.
Even better, Apple doesnt up-charge for 4K movies. For example Mission Impossible: Fallout as a new release on Vudu costs $24.99 for the 4K edition. On iTunes, the movie can be purchased for $19.99. For digital movie collectors, this little feature in Apple TVs iTunes movies is a blessing. But keep in mind: Its only available on the Apple TV 4K.

Can You Add Disney Plus Or Hbo Max As An Apple TV Channel
Services like HBO Max, Hulu, Disney Plus, Peacock, and Prime Video are not available directly as Apple TV channels. Instead, you have to sign up for these services separately and watch them through their own apps.
That said, you can still integrate recommendations from these platforms into the Apple TV app. Billing is not available through Apple so you must already have a separate subscription to one of these services. You’ll then see an option to link the services you’re subscribed to with the Apple TV app.
This will enable you to see recommendations for movies and shows from that platform inside the Apple TV app. But if you click on a program you’ll be redirected to stream it on the required third-party app.
For instance, if you connect your separate HBO Max subscription to the Apple TV app, you’ll see recommendations for HBO Max shows within the Apple TV interface. But if you click on the show, your device will be prompted to launch the HBO Max app.

What is Apple TV and do I need an iPhone to use it?
Youre a brave soul, . Right now, a bunch of Apple fanboys are camping out in front of an Apple Store somewhere, already waiting for the Apple Watch, reading this post on their iDevices and snickering at your question.
Ignore them, I say! Your question isnt silly. Even the tech media is seemingly confused by Apple TV sometimes does Apple TV refer to the hardware that exists today, the cable-killing video service that Apple is trying to create or a theoretical Apple-branded television set?
Short answer: Apple TV is not a TV.
Apple TV is a $69, palm-sized black plastic box that connects to your television set via an HDMI cable. Then it connects to your home wireless network and brings the magic of Internet video to your TV. It comes with a simple three-button remote.
It was initially described as a hobby for Apple. Which, in retrospect, is sort of like Apple saying, Hey man, Im just shooting hoops in the backyard, when actually its gunning for a spot in the NBA. Since the products launch in 2007, Apple has sold 25 million of these little boxes.
