Fees For Additional Services

You will find fees for freebies Verizon gives you once their subscriptions expire. Here are some examples:

Service
$4.99/mo.

Heres an example. If you forget to cancel Disney+ and it expires, Disneys streaming service will charge you the $7.99 monthly fee through your Verizon account.

You can cancel these subscriptions at any time. So if you dont intend on using these services after their promotional duration, ensure you check the next billing date. Then cancel a day or two before that date.

I suggest doing it earlier in case errors happen during the cancelation process. And once you cancel, double-check your work. Make sure that it doesnt say theyll charge you.

Theres also YouTube TV. Verizon lists it as a plan. But it doesnt have a different cost than getting it through YouTube.

Its $64.99 a month for 85+ channels.

Verizon Fios Vs Spectrum Bundles

Spectrum offers one basic cable plan which allows for a variety of add-ons to create a package that includes your favorites shows, premium channels and sports. Although Verizons internet plans tend to be a better deal, Spectrum is a much more attractive option if you are looking to bundle TV since it offers a lower starting price for TV than Verizon. For instance, both Verizon and Spectrum offer a TV package with 125+ channels however, Verizon charges $65/mo. for this plan and Spectrum only charges $49.99/mo.

If you are looking for a bundle plan with the highest channel count, you will want to go with Verizon, since Verizon offers TV packages with as many as 425+ channels. Spectrums channel count only reaches 200+ channels.

Additionally, Spectrums higher channel packages are also not particularly good deals so only choose to bundle with Spectrum if you are opting for the 125+ channel package. Verizons higher channel packages, in contrast, are much better value than its most basic TV plan.

Both providers offer streaming options as well. Watch all of your favorite programming on the go with the Spectrum TV app or the Verizon Fios TV app.

*Pricing per month plus taxes for length of contract. Additional fees and terms may apply. Pricing varies by location and availability. All prices subject to change at any time. May or may not be available based on service address. As of 02/14/22.

The TV One box is a small set-top box. It measures roughly 10x7x1.5. We like the compact design because it doesnt take up much space on your TV stand.

The box comes with 1TB of storage for your DVR recordings. It features a sleek and discreet black design that blends in easily.

The wireless feature allows for a tidy installation process. You wont need to run cables from this box and you can install it in any spot where it will be in range of your Wi-Fi network. There is an HDMI output if you want to connect the box to your TV directly, but it makes more sense to use the wireless connection feature.

And The Winner Isverizon Fios

Fios and Xfinity are the industry leaders because they both offer exceptional products at affordable prices.

However, if its available in your region, I highly recommend choosing Fios.

Why?

First, internet speed. Fios has the advantage in terms of internet speeds with their modern fiber-optic infrastructure.

Second, customer satisfaction. The results dont lie. Year after year, Fios consistently beats Xfinity in ACSI. Everyone knows how frustrating it can be to deal with a provider when your internet or TV is down. With Fios, you get your problems solved quickly and without hassle. You cant put a price on that.

If youre ready to sign up or want to get more information, check out Fios TV and Internet on Verizon.com.

As I mentioned up-front, Fios offers exclusive deals if you purchase their service online .

If Fios isnt available in your area, or you value a quick installation process and boatload of On-Demand options, Xfinity is an excellent option too. You can learn more about their services and check out their exclusive online offers on Xfinity.com.

Do you agree with my assessment? Any Xfinity fans out there that disagree? Id love to hear your feedback. Please comment below and let us know what you think.

Where Did It Come From

Lower your cable TV bill in just 5 minutes

As far as we can tell, before Comcast introduced the âBroadcast TV Feeâ to make up for charges from Broadcasters , AT& T invented the âBroadcast TV Surchargeâ in 2013 to ârecover a portion of the amount local broadcasters charge AT& T to carry their channels.â

However, they were only following in the footsteps of DirecTV who invented the âRegional Sports Feeâ in a similar claim that they had to make up the cost of carrying sports channels. The Consumerist went through these fees earlier this year and found that DirecTV seems to be basically throwing darts at a map to determine who pays what for these fees and that neighbors across zipcode lines may have their bill differ by almost $100 a year.

Basically, somebody over at AT& T realized they could charge you more and make it look like it was the governmentâs fault and everyone else followed suit.

Re: Drastic Increase In Fees

Fees on a new contract are substantially higher than the current bill.

Regional Sports Network Fee is $7.89 in the new contract, but only $4.99 on this month’s no-contract bill.

Fios TV Broadcast Fee is $4.49 in the new contract, $1.99 on the bill.

Why? And, these “fees”, unlike required taxes and charges, should be included in the basic cost of services.

However like cable companies they are known as below the line fees. This way it looks good to have customers sign up for service at $75 etc and then get hit with $20 in fees, taxes, surcharges, and bogus fees added on. So its $95 or higher.

if you drop tv you save thousands in costs let alone fees and bogus surcharges. You can get a streaming tv service for $35 with no taxes, fees or surcharges. DirectTVNOW or Sling or Hulu is much better. And you can get a VoIP service like magic jack for $35 for the doggle with a free year of service. You can port your number to them for a one time $20 fee. And you save big money.

then on internet just use Fios or cable internet. No taxes or fees on internet only. However Verizon in NY puts a bogus NYS Municipal Construction surcharge on the internet for $2.49 per month. Cable does not put these bogus fees on internet.

so the choice is yours. Research everything and then make up your mind as what is best for you.

Additional Fees To Consider

  • One Set Top Box is included with every plan, however, youll need to pay $12/month for each additional Set Top Box. This can add up quickly in homes with multiple TVs.
  • There is a Fios TV Broadcast fee of $6.49 for the entry-level plan as well as a $7.89 Regional Sports fee for the mid-tier and top-tier plans.
  • All plans require that you either rent a router for $15/month, or you can buy your router for a one-time charge of $300.
  • If you need more than 50 hours of DVR storage or multi-room DVR , those options will cost between $12 and $30/month extra depending on how many hours of storage you need.
  • All plans require a $99 installation fee.
  • You may qualify for a bundle deal if you are a Verizon mobile customer.

What Is A Broadcast TV Fee

According to the service providers, the broadcast TV fee is the expense they have to pay to be able to provide local broadcast stations to you.

However, know that this is not a government-mandated fee, and it increases without any warning from time to time.

The prime reason for the fee is that customers are being provided with local broadcast stations, but what about the customers who do not watch the TV or benefit from the local broadcast stations?

Unfortunately, since they are receiving the signal, whether they decide to decode it or not, they have to pay.

This means, as long as you are subscribed to the TV tiers, you will be required to pay the extra fee even if you are not availing of the services.

Can I Refute Hidden Fees From Verizon Fios

Off On A Tangent: 11/01/2014

If there were hidden fees, you can try to reach out to customer service to refute them or get a refund, or simply have them taken off for the remainder of your contract, but this doesnt always work. Some of the hidden fees might simply be fees that fall under the category of taxes or surcharges and if they are government fees, theres not much Verizon can do. However, if they are Verizon fees, it is worth investigating.

More importantly, if there are hidden fees that have to do with your service, something like an unexpected charge for a particular product or service that you previously received for free or for a discount because of a promotion, customer service might be able to help you with that especially if the advertising was misleading, or if a promotion simply wasnt honored.

Fios Vs Xfinity: How Do Their Prices Compare

When evaluating Fios and Xfinity, nothing is more frustrating than trying to compare the all-in costs.

Each companys services are slightly different, which makes it difficult to compare them apples-to-apples.

Ive looked at several different scenarios, and in general, for similar services, the monthly price of Xfinity and Fios are within $20 of each other.

Since the total costs depend on where you live, the number of TVs, packages, and deals at the time of purchase, the easiest way to determine how much you will pay is to look at each cost category individually.

Before I dive into the details of each cost category, here is a quick snapshot of the total costs of Xfinity and Fios.
