Apple TV Plus doesnt have as many movies as its competitors, but it does have a respectable selection of original films to stream right away, with more upcoming exclusive titles from Martin Scorsese and Joel Coen to look forward to. Apple’s shows run the gamut of drama, comedy, documentary — even undefined deals with a single big star attached. It’s also spending big to get top Hollywood names: Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams and other heavy hitters are on board. Apple also struck an exclusive deal with Alfonso Cuarón for the famed director’s first television projects.
Since Apple TV Plus resides in Apple’s TV app, you can check out the selection there before signing up. You can also browse the catalog through third-party services like Reelgood.
Apple’s press site also rounds up all Apple TV Plus original titles, including some that have been announced but aren’t released yet.
Apple planned to give theater runs to some of its films before streaming them on Apple TV Plus, but the coronavirus pandemic has stifled those plans for the time being.

What Does It Cost
That all depends on which offer you choose. If you buy an Apple device, Apple TV+ is included free for three months.1 A monthly subscription is just $5.99 per month after a free seven-day trial.2 Apple TV+ is included in Apple One, which bundles up to five other Apple services into a single monthly subscription. Apple One plans start at $15.95 per month. The Apple Music Student Plan comes with a free subscription to Apple TV+.3

Apples streaming service launched in November 2019 with a suite of buzzy, high-profile shows, including The Morning Show with Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, Jason Momoa in sci-fi series See, and Hailee Steinfeld as the titular poet in Dickinson.
Since then, the company has offered critically-acclaimed series, including the feel-good sports comedy Ted Lasso, animated musical series Central Park, and the story of intrepid kid journalist Home Before Dark. Recent films include Sofia Coppolas latest outing, On the Rocks, starring Bill Murray and Rashida Jones, the documentary Boys State, and the Bruce Springsteen documentary Bruce Springsteens Letter to You.
Other titles that have hit the streaming service include a new version of Steven Spielbergs anthology series Amazing Stories Mythic Quest: Ravens Banquet, created by Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, and Megan Ganz Little America, from writerexecutive producers Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. You can pick your favorite teams and then receive a notification when theyre about to play.
In the Sports screen of the Apple TV app , select Your Favorite Teams, then scroll to a category in the list.
Navigate to your team, then press the clickpad center or the touch surface to add it.
To remove a team, select it in Favorites, then select Remove.
Why I No Longer Recommend The Apple TV Streaming Player
The Apple TV streaming player is a small box that connects to your TV via its HDMI port. It gives you the ability to watch streaming services from the Internet on your TV, and it allows you to mirror the screen from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to your TV.
To use Apple TV, you need to have Internet access, and youll have to connect your Apple TV to your home Wi-Fi network or router via Ethernet cable. Connection to Wi-Fi is pretty easy as long as you know your Wi-Fi password.

The first wave of programming available on the service when it launched showed that Apple TV was going to be a contender when it comes to original programming with some huge names attached to several of their projects.
From The Morning Show starring Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Anniston and Steve Carrell, to Ted Lasso starring Jason Sudeikis, there are a number of big shows on Apple TV+, with the streamers collection only growing.

Mythic Quest: Ravens Banquet is one of the underseen gems in 2020s freshman series. Created by a team of Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia familiars, the series stars Rob McElhenney as the genius behind the best-selling videogame a well-meaning blow-hard who surrounded himself by a devoted and somewhat deranged team while building his empire. By and large, Mythic Quest is a familiar workplace comedy and it definitely goes easy on toxic video game culture but it has the standout characters and comedic performances to make it feel fresh. It also has a downright stunning half-hour of television in the standout episode A Dark Quiet Death, and according to Colliders TV Editor Liz Shannon Miller, the first Coronavirus Era Masterpiece with its special episode filmed in quarantine. What Devices Can Stream Apple TV Plus
Apple’s programming is available on all its devices with the Apple TV app.
Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston revealed the name of their Apple TV Plus series, The Morning Show, at an Apple’s event.
In addition, Apple TV Plus is available on some competitors’ devices. Apple’s TV app is available on Roku and Fire TV, two of the most widely used streaming devices in the US, and for smart TVs from Samsung and LG. You can watch it on Sony and Vizio smart TVs via AirPlay, and the TV app should be available for those smart TVs now.
Apple widened support for Apple TV Plus to game consoles in the fall. In October, Sony said its Playstation 5 would support Apple TV Plus at launch. A couple of weeks later, Microsoft said Apple TV Plus would be supported on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
Subscribers will also be able to watch Apple TV Plus on the web at tv.apple.com.
But the Apple TV app isn’t available on any mobile devices except iPhones or iPads. That means Apple TV Plus subscribers with non-Apple phones — meaning, the huge population of people with Android phones — need to stream to their mobiles via the web, rather than in an app.

What The Experts Think
The general consensus from streaming and media experts is that although Apple TV Plus has a solid lineup of original content and fantastic streaming quality, there simply isnt enough original content .
In our original Apple TV review, we noted that while it isnt exactly a runaway success, Apples streaming service is a solid contender. And it keeps adding more impressive content all the time. In addition to a unique three-episode-initial-drop content strategy to get watchers hooked fast, it also features the best streaming bitrate in the business. Plus, at just five bucks a month, Apple isnt asking much for access to its content.
That said, in our comparisons with other top streaming services like Netflix and Disney Plus , the difference in the amount of content is staggering. Although both services cost more than Apple TV Plus, their catalogs are significantly larger and constantly growing.
Apple invested a lot of money into Apple Originals and many of them are truly worth watching. Disney Plus has The Mandalorian, Hulu has Handmaids Tale, and Netflix has Stranger Things and many others. Apple TV Plus isnt out of the running, with shows like The Morning Show and Ted Lasso getting plenty of attention, but its not breaking records.
