‘dr Pimple Popper’ Takes On The ‘most Extreme’ Case Of Eruptive Xanthomas In Exclusive Sneak Peek

Dr. Pimple Popper just might be the best medical show on television ...

Dr. Sandra Lee has her work cut out for her as the Dr. Pimple Popper star takes on the “most extreme” case of eruptive xanthomas she’s ever seen with a patient whose underlying health issues could make treatment dangerous. In a PopCulture.com exclusive sneak peek of the TLC show’s brand new episode Wednesday, Lee meets with Robert, who has been dealing with bumps all over his body since he was a teenager.

“I’ve been dealing with this since I was 13,” he tells Lee of the “cholesterol bumps” dotting his skin. “When I first got looked at when I was 13, they brought in a whole bunch of medical teams, took pictures, put me in medical books. I felt like a guinea pig like that.” Inquiring about a biopsy, Lee asks Robert if the bump that was initially removed ever grew back.

“It did not grow back. It’s a flat, just a tiny scar,” he tells her as Lee inspects the area, which healed “pretty well” in her opinion. After taking a look at his condition, Lee knows exactly what’s going on with Robert. “So first of all, this is called eruptive xanthomas,” she tells him. “The high cholesterol, because it’s in your blood vessels, it’s sort of diffusing out and going into your skin, and then your skin is like collecting these little fat-laden cells. So that’s what these are and in a way, what is very fascinating I haven’t seen this and to this degree.”

Dr Pimple Popper Diagnoses The Issue

Over the last several years, James has visited more than 10 doctors attempting to get a diagnosis and treatment plan for his condition. He sought help from Dr. Lee, hopeful that she would be able to help him. Even she was stumped by his condition at first.

It was quickly learned that none of the previous doctors had performed a skin biopsy on James. Without that information, Dr. Lee knew she wasnt getting the whole picture. Despite that, she confessed that she hadnt ever seen anything like James condition before.

She offered a hypothesis as to what caused James growth but wanted to perform a biopsy to see if she could provide a diagnosis for him. They gathered samples from the growth on his abdomen as well as his leg.

As it turns out, he has chronic lymphedema. This condition occurs when there is a buildup of lymph fluid in the body. His adolescent injury and surgery are thought to have created scar tissue, leading to this buildup.

Unfortunately, Dr. Lee informed James and his wife that she wouldnt be able to assist him with his condition, but she would help connect them with a specialist who could.

While Dr. Lee wasnt able to help James, this is the first time he has received a diagnosis. He can now potentially move forward with finding a treatment plan that could change his life.

You can watch new episodes of Dr. Pimple Popper on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EST on TLC.

Rogers Story On Dr Pimple Popper

Dr. Sandra Lee suggested to Roger that the growth is lacking proper blood supply, describing his case as extremely critical.

The TLC patient has had a growth on his nose for 11 years, which was just the size of a pimple before.

It started bleeding and grew bigger, ending up as the size of a tennis ball.

The condition has grown bigger now, after Roger claimed a couple of hospitals did not want to help him due to having no insurance.

He has to move his nose because otherwise he cannot eat right, as theres not enough room unless he lifts the growth up.

Roger also explained that he cannot breathe through his nose as a result of the heaviness, and that he has to get oxygen via his mouth.

Here’s What You Get When You Appear On Dr Pimple Popper

In June 2018 Refinery29 reported that to become a patient on the show, all you had to do was email a selfie, a photo of your skin issue, and a clear explanation of how it has impacted your life to Dr. Pimple Popper‘s casting team. The call-out specified that they were seeking patients with severe blackheads and acne, lipoma, cysts, large growths, or diagnosed skin conditions.

Unfortunately, selected candidates don’t get paid an appearance fee, however, they do receive travel accommodations and treatment by the famous dermatologist is on the house, which, in our opinion, sounds even better. We hate to think how much Dr. Lee charges for a visit.

This Is How Much It Costs To See Dr Pimple Popper

Dr. Sandra Lee, aka Dr. Pimple Popper, shot to stardom thanks to her grossly addictive pimple popping videos on YouTube before transitioning to TLC, where she stars in her own reality show aptly titled Dr. Pimple Popper. Dr. Lee is a master of extracting the toughest and most disgusting pimples and blackheads, along with other lumps and bumps from her patients, leading us, as viewers, to long for her magical touch.

Luckily, you don’t necessarily have to apply to appear on Dr. Pimple Popper to be treated by Dr. Lee, but seeing the good doctor is going to set you back a pretty penny no matter what. After all, she’s based in California, so if you’re not local, it’s going to cost you a plane ticket, too.

Is Dr Pimple Popper Fake

Since its inception in 2018, Dr. Pimple Popper has helped educate people about their skin and encouraged them to follow a healthier skincare routine. But the roots of the TLC show started with Lees online presence as she began sharing TV segments that she had been a part of on her YouTube channel around 2010. A few years later, Lee started putting up posts about her work on Instagram just to give people an idea of her professional sphere.

However, she noticed that the posts about popping pimples and blackhead extractions particularly attracted a lot of attention. Her number of followers on YouTube went through the roof when she started sharing these videos on the online platform. So, this establishes that Lees work was already in the limelight way before the reality series was conceived. In the show, we see some of the most unusual skin conditions, which makes us wonder how the team finds clients for Dr. Lee.

People hoping to be on the show reportedly go through a casting process, as is the norm for most reality series. In a conversation with Refinery29, Dr. Lee explained, There are casting agents who are hired by TLC to find potential patients for filming. She also shared that they reach out to people through platforms such as Reddit and Facebook. According to Lee, the only criteria is, I will say, the bigger or crazier the skin condition, the better the chances.

Dr. Pimple Popper Gets Her Own TV Series on TLC

Melissa had a large lump on her shoulder that extended to her neck. It started as a small bump but continued to grow over the course of three years. To hide it, Melissa wore hoodies everywhere, no matter how hot or cold it was. Dr. Lee diagnosed Melissas growth as a lipoma, which she explained is a benign collection of fat cells. She was able to remove the entire lipoma that day , allowing Melissa to leave the office with more confidence than shed had in years.
