Pluto TV And Lg Embark On Global Smart TV Distribution Partnership

Pluto TV, the ViacomCBS-owned free streaming service, has expanded its smart TV reach through a global deal with LG.

Under the arrangement, 2020 models of LG smart TVs in the U.S. will carry Pluto, an ad-supported, linear bundle of streaming channels. Models made between 2016 and 2019 will be phased in this fall, and expansion to other global territories will follow.

Pluto, founded in 2013, currently operates in 22 countries. As of May, it had 24 million monthly active users, double its level when it was acquired by Viacom in early 2019. On Thursday, ViacomCBS will report updated Pluto numbers along with its quarterly financial results.

The LG relationship complements existing ones between Pluto and major smart TV makers Samsung and Vizio. Under the deal, Pluto programming will be accessible through the manufacturers LG Channels offering. Upon full integration later this year, it will offer about 100 of Plutos 200-plus channels.

Free streaming service, Pluto TV, is now available on 2020 LG TV Smart TVs.

Pluto TV announced a global distribution deal with LG Electronics today.

Pluto TV channels currently appear on LG smart TV models in the U.S. Software updates will roll out to 2016-2019 models in Fall 2020, the company said.

Upgrade For Lg Channels

LG Electronics is upgrading its free, premium content streaming service, LG Channels, to provide an enhanced viewing experience for LG smart TV customers.

In addition to the redesigned UI, the upgrade introduces more channels and a wider range of content for viewers to enjoy, including popular K-content, movies, sports, music and news, increasing its current 1,600+ channels to 1,900 channels.

With viewership and viewing time of LG Channels doubling compared to last year, LG is expanding LG Channels global availability from 14 to 25 countries, tripling its European coverage by the end of the year. LG Channels will also be coming to more than 30 brands of smart TVs powered by LGs own webOS TV platform, including Motorola, JVC, Polaroid and Master-G.

The free streaming service Pluto TV and LG Electronics have expanded their partnership to offer Pluto TV channels on all 2016 to 2021 LG TVs running webOS in select European markets.

With LG TV owners in Germany and the UK being the first to enjoy the Pluto TV app on LG TVs as of early this year, LG TV owners in France and Spain can now access the entire library of channels available directly from Pluto TV app on their LG TV.

Furthermore, a curated list of over 100 Pluto TV channels will be available on the LG Channels service later this year in France, Spain, Germany and the UK, offering both popular local and international film, entertainment, lifestyle, kids, comedy and other genres.

The Pluto TV channels were first launched on the LG Channels service in 2020 in the US.
