What Happens To Nbc Programming On Hulu

For now, NBC’s shows will keep streaming on Hulu.

The Office started streaming on Peacock at the beginning of 2021.

NBC was a partner in Hulu for years, but NBCUniversal-owner Comcast struck a deal with Disney to give Disney full Hulu control last year. That deal included terms that essentially allow NBC to have programming stream both on Hulu and on Peacock at the same time.

NBCUniversal can start pulling its programming off Hulu starting this year, and by 2022 it has the right to cancel most of its content-licensing agreements with Hulu, Variety reported.

“It’s too early to tell” whether NBC will want to go that route yet, NBCUniversal Chairman Steve Burke said at the presentation unveiling Peacock in early 2020.

How Bad Are The Ads

While commercials are the same between the free and Premium plans, they are not that bad.

NBC says it runs less than five minutes of ads per hour of content you watch.

In an older movie that is about two hours long, you can expect six 45-second commercial breaks and a 20-second clip at the programs start.

There are not as many interruptions on the CBS-backed free TV streaming service, Pluto. On some shows, NBC will run three minutes of ads at the beginning and then air the rest ad-free.

This commercial time is comparable to other, similarly-priced streaming services that offer ad-supported tiers, like Discovery Plus and Hulu.

If you want ad-free content and the ability to download shows to watch offline, youll have to register for Peacock Premium Plus for $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year.

Peacock’s Free tier includes 7,500 hours of ad-supported programming, including next-day access to episodes of first-year NBC shows, as well as a rotating lineup of classic films and television series. What Sports Are On Peacock

NBCUniversal struck up a deal to have exclusive streaming rights to Premier League soccer matches. The Premier League is an English soccer confederation made up of 20 clubs, and Peacock Premium subscribers will be able to stream more than 175 games from the 2020-2021 season.

If you cant watch your favorite teams match live, youll have access to a full replay once the game is over. Still, if live sports is what youre after, your best bet is still to sign up for something like fuboTV, which offers dozens of sporting channels with even its most basic subscription .

NBCUniversal recently bought the exclusive streaming rights to non-Pay Per View WWE matches, which will be available through Peacock on March 18. Youll be able to stream the WWE Network online via Peacock.

NBC will also have a bunch of what its calling virtual channels available for Peacock users to choose from. Premium doubles the amount of content to some 15,000 hours.

Comcast and Cox subscribers will get Peacock Premium for free. For everyone else, it’ll be $4.99 a month, or $49.99 if you pay annually, saving you about $10.

But there are also plenty of crowd faves, from Friday Night Lights to Murder, She Wrote and Will and Grace. For procedurals fans, a litany of shows from the Law & Order universe will be available, including every episode of SVU. Peacock will also have other non-NBC broadcast network hits like Keeping Up With the Kardashians and Top Chef.

How Does Peacock TV Premium Work And What Does It Cost

When youre ready to start paying Peacock unlocks its true potential. Its most basic paid tier costs $4.99 per month or $49.99 for a whole year. This service works much like Hulu, unlocking everything on the service but with ad-breaks while you watch.

Peacock has more ads than Hulus similarly priced basic level. TV shows have more ads than movies, with some movies having only one or two ad breaks per viewing.

Catch entire runs of classic shows like The Office, Everybody Hates Chris, Modern Family, and Law and Order: SVU. Youll also get original series like the rebooted Saved by the Bell or the incredible late night original series The Amber Ruffin Show.

It also features one of the best libraries of older streaming studio movies around, from John Wick to The Breakfast Club.

Peacock TV Shows Movies And Sports Content

The shows and movies you get on Peacock TV depend on whether you’re with the free or premium tiers. Movies on the free tier at launchinclude the Bourne trilogy, Phantom Thread, Jurassic Park, American Psycho, Tully, The Matrix Trilogy, Vertigo, Man on the Moon, The Blair Witch Project, The Birds and The Mummy.

Going with the premium tier unlocks more movies like Ted, Shrek, Children of Men and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Honestly, at first glance, the movie selection for free users looks good enough that you won’t necessarily be incentivized to spend extra to watch more, which is great.

TV shows are arguably a bigger deal for Peacock, though, with The Office joining the service after it leaves Netflix in 2021. Even at launch, the line-up is pretty impressive for free users. We’ll explain more below.
