In some places, 4K TVs and content is advertised to such an extent that it would be easy to think this is now the mainstream resolution.

However, while technology is developing and 4K TV prices fall at pace,4K transmissions are still in the minority. You can pay for a TV capable ofshowing 4K pictures if you wish. However, the relatively low volume ofcontent means unless your TV has a fantastic processor which willincrease its price considerably you might not be able to watch much 4Kcontent.

If youre considering buying a 4K TV, think about the types of content you like watching and discovering what is available in 4K. At the same time, if youre happy to bide your time but want to invest in a new TV now, 4K will only become more popular in the coming years. Some TV channels already offer a 4K option, while streaming content from Netflix and Amazon Prime is likely to be increasingly available in 4K, too. You might even decide to upgrade to a 4K Blu-Ray player.

What Is The Resolution Of A TV

A TVs resolution is the physical size of the screen measured by the number of pixels. Every TV screen is lit by thousands of tiny pixels that create the picture you see, and each TV resolution has a different number of pixels. For example, a 4K resolution TV has 3840 x 2160 pixels a total of 8,294,400 pixels.

What Is A Qled TV

QLED TVs are quantum-dot based and their use sets them apart from conventional sets.

What is a quantum dot?

Quantum dots are as advanced as they sound. They are ultra-fine semiconductor materials of nanoscale size. The dots create differing colours of light depending on the particle size. So if a dot is really large, the colour will be redder, if its really small, itll be more blue in colour. They can emit precise coloured light due to particle sizes being adjusted at quantum-level velocities. The result is accurate and efficient light emissions and this causes huge improvements to the overall picture quality.

What are the benefits of QLED TVs?

These TVs leverage the use of quantum dots to offer high luminance. Luminance affects how bright a screen can look and is a major factor for greater picture quality. This is because the contrast of an image is naturally improved when brightness is higher. When the range of bright and dark that you see on screen is wider, its referred to as HDR . In this light, QLED TVs can provide richer images with their advanced luminance.

What You Need To Remember Abouttv Resolutions

Lets say youre watching an 8K TV

There are very few, if any, sources worldwide currently transmitting TV pictures in 8K. Therefore, to watch in 8K, you need a TV that can process the images it receives to deliver such a viewing experience.

The same is true for watching any show or consuming any other type of content that provides a different image resolution from the native resolution of your TV set.

The best viewing experience with any TV will always come when the native resolution matches the image resolution.

Thankfully, increasing numbers of transmissions are now HD as standard, with many sources, including Netflix, offering some 4K content. This reduces the level of processing needed and leads to you getting a better picture.

An 8K TV with low processing power wont magically make everything you watch look incredible. Itll definitely leave your wallet a little lighter, but thats about it!

How Do I Make Sure My Samsung TV Is In 4k

The first step to check if your TV is in 4K is to refer to the TVs manual. Most TVs have an owners manual, but if you havent received it in the mail, you can download a new one. Alternatively, you can go online and find the manual for your specific model. However, you should take note of the differences between manuals and websites.

Once youve found your Samsung TV, the next step is to check the resolution. 4K resolution is significantly higher than standard HD, so you should ensure its set to that. To do this, go to the Expert Settings menu. Youll want to set the screen to a specific source. If youve got a 4K TV, youll want to set the resolution to at least 4096×2160.

Next, you need to turn on UHD Color mode. This option is found under the LED Clear Motion feature. This option optimizes the processing of UHD 50P/60P signals. To turn on UHD color mode, you need to use the Directional Pad on your remote or the directional pad to select HDMI1. Once youve done this, select the option to turn on the UHD Color mode.

Fixing TV Resolution: Television Settings

How to Change Screen Resolution to FULL HD, 4K in Android TV

Its difficult to give a specific guide for how to disable overscan on your TV, since it will vary pretty significantly by brand and model. In most cases, youll be looking for an option in the Picture menu that allows you to adjust aspect ratios or even just disable overscan outright.

In most cases, your aspect ratio will be set to something along the lines of a 16:9 resolution. Youll want to change this to an option that says Screen Fit, Just Scan, or something like that. If you dont see those options, you may want to refer to your TV manual . You can also just Google your TV brand and model and the words overscan setting.

In some cases, despite your best efforts, you might have no luck getting the picture to show up correctly. Fortunately, there are some steps you can take in your Windows and Mac settings that might be able to fix the problem for you.

Distance From The Screen

The fact is that most peoples eyes wont be able to tell the difference between a 720p and a 1080p image from more than about 6 or 7 feet. The same goes for 1080p and 4K.

A rough rule of thumb is that if you are further away than 1.5 times the diagonal screen size, you will struggle to tell the difference between the various HD resolutions.

So, unless you plan on sitting five or six feet away from the screen or you have a huge TV then your eyes just wont be able to appreciate the extra resolution between different high-definition images on a 720p or 1080p screen.

Or, a 4K Ultra HD screen, for that matter.

The article on TV viewing distance covers this in more detail.

Checking The Resolution For The Input Source

Your Samsung TV can show several different resolutions. But the size and image quality depend on the source of the image. For example, if youre using Roku devices, youll have several options depending on which player youre using.

The same goes for the quality of your Blu-ray Player or your Xbox. Its entirely up to the quality of the device connected to your Samsung TV. If you want to check the resolution for a specific source, heres what you do:

  • Grab your Samsung Remote and press the Home button.
  • Use the left and right keys to select
  • Click on the specific source, for example, Comcast or PlayStation.
  • The current resolution shows up in the top right corner of the screen. Make sure to give it a few moments to appear.
  • You can repeat the process for each source to find out the correct resolution. You can change the resolution for each input source by adjusting the picture size on your Samsung TV. This term is often referred to as the Aspect Ratio.

    What Is Device Pixel Ratio

    Change my receiver

Device pixel ratio on the other hand is a tad bit complex than the aspect ratio. To put it in simple terms, the device pixel ratio or DPR is the ratio of the actual pixel on the screen to the logical pixel of the screen.

If your devices DPR is high, the same output image will look crisper regardless of the quality of the image. In the same way, a low DPR display will load the image faster but sacrifice image quality in return.

Enjoy All Your Content In 4k

It would be great if all recorded content were filmed in 4K, but there’s still a lot of lower resolution content out there in comparison to 4K content. However, thankfully this is not a concern because of upscaling. So what is 4K upscaling and what can it do for you? When you watch lower-quality FHD content on a 4K TV, upscaling is the technology that increases its resolution, converts, and optimizes it to fit the display panel of a 4K TV. In other words, it doesn’t just stretch the image it upgrades it for the 4K display. Upscaling automatically analyzes resolution to reduce noise, improve details and provide optimum contrast and color so that you can view this content in 4K-like quality. And since every brand does upscaling differently, be sure to choose the one that does it the best.

What is 4K? What is UHD?

To put it simply, UHD stands for Ultra High Definition and 4K Resolution is a type of UHD resolution. Different brands use various expressions to say the same thing, such as Ultra HD, 4K TV, Ultra High Definition TV and 4K UHD TV. As time passed, the TV industry found the phrase “4K” easier and more intuitive for consumers and began to use it more and more. Today most manufacturers and distributors now use the term 4K TV or 4K UHD TV. Recently, another type of UHD TV has begun to show up on the market: the 8K TV.

    What Is The Resolution

The resolution of a TV defines how many pixels there are in the display. Generally speaking, a higher resolution results in a clearer, sharper image, but it doesn’t necessarily improve the overall picture quality. Also, having a high-resolution TV is most beneficial when watching high-resolution content, and you may not even notice the differences between two resolutions if you’re sitting at a distance.

This article explains the differences between various resolutions and how they affect the picture quality. If you want to learn more, you can also read about the resolution and size of monitors.

How To Tell The Resolution Of Your TV

The easiest way is to check the manual that came with your TV. This will list the TVs specifications, including the native resolution. If you dont have the manual, look for the TVs model number on the televisions rear and search the internet for the manufacturers sales page. You may also find the TV has a system information page in the settings menu that displays the TVs specifications.

    What Is Standard Definition

How to Tell if Your Samsung 4K Smart TV is Using HDR (4K UHD)

The term standard definition is itself a relatively new one.

After all, through most of the 20th century, we knew standard definition as the only type of display that could be transmitted and that we could display on our TV screens. The term was coined following the widespread adoption of high definition in consumer TV during the first decade of this century.

Although increasing numbers of transmissions are available in higher image resolutions, SD is still the most widespread and accessible for most of the global population.

The resolution of an SD picture depends on where you are.

    United States and Canada,

NTSC system & SD is 480i

    Europe, Australia, and Asia,

PAL system & SD is 576i

As such, SD is slightly better in PAL regions than in NTSC regions .

    PAL regions

    NTSC regions

In NTSC regions, a standard definition transmission delivers 307,200 pixels. Keep this number in mind as we explore higher quality image resolutions, as the difference is staggering!

    What Is An Oled TV

OLED or Organic Light Emitting Diode is a new type of TV display technology that is capable of realistic picture quality while still remaining thin and lightweight in design.

How does an OLED TV work?

They use a thin film of an organic compound which lights up when electricity passes through it. It means that each dot on the screen is controlled independently, allowing a completely black pixel to be beside a fully white one, The result is a dramatic contrast of vibrant colours in comparison to the always-on backlights of LED TVs. Think of them like plasma TVs, but much slimmer and more power efficient.

OLEDs’ mighty combination of lightweight slim design and exemplary contrast performance continues to ensure it stands out from the crowd of next generation TVs.

    What are the benefits?

OLED TVs have individual organic cells behind the screen. They produce their own light source – unlike standard LED-backlit TVs. This gives it a few noticeable advantages when it comes to picture quality and design:

Deep blacks: OLED sets can switch off individual LEDs when displaying black, instead of just directing light away from that part of the screen, like LCD displays do. This means they can achieve very deep blacks.

Smooth motion: Motion looks fluid on OLED TVs, with hardly any blurring, even on fast-moving action.

Energy use: Even though OLED TVs were initially thought to use less power than similar-sized LED-backlit LCD sets, data suggests they use about the same.
