Samsung’s Hidden Volume Control Trick – Move To The Side & Add More Features

I have an Apple TV 4K , connected the Apple TV 4K to a 1-year old Samsung 4K TV through HDMI, and use an iPhone 11 to control it.

The issue is that I cannot adjust the volume on the Apple TV 4K by decreasing/increasing the volume on my iPhone

I contacted Apple support and they couldn’t really provide any helpful feedback.

  • I honestly don’t think there’s a way to control volume with the phone-based remote. Not only have I not heard of this before , but I can’t see how this could possibly work. The Siri/touchpad remote has both RF and IR transmitters, and the ATV itself has RF and IR receivers. To control volume, you point your original remote at the ATV, which receives the IR codes, and sends them back to the remote , and it’s the ATV remote which sends the IR codes to control your volume. iPhones can’t do that.Dec 18, 2020 at 16:26

Once enabled, you can turn your TV on or off with the remote and from the Google Assistant app on your phone. Say, “Hey Google, turn on the TV”to turn it on. If theres more than one TV, you will need to say its name. For example, “Hey Google, turn on the Living Room TV.”You can even do this remotely when youre not at home.

Worth noting here is that HDMI-CEC, as a feature, is quite messy and inconsistent across the range of Android TVs available from various OEMs. For some TVs, CEC may let you control the external device volume or only the TV’s volume. It can take some research or simple trial and error to determine which features work correctly for your TV.

The Chromecast with Google TV isn’t like your old Chromecast it’s the first to come with proper Android TV and a remote that even works with your TV or soundbar. However, that’s where some problems are introduced. Depending on how you’ve set up the Chromecast remote, you might notice that it’s become impossible to control the volume via Google Assistant or your handset when you cast from your phone. Here’s what you need to know if you want to enable that functionality.

Go to Settings -> Remotes and Accessories -> Set up remote buttons -> Volume control.

Head to your Chromecast’s settings to start the troubleshooting process. Navigate to your avatar in the top right corner of the Google TV home screen, then Settings -> Remotes & Accessories -> Set up remote buttons -> Volume control. In there, you’ll see three options: Auto , , and Chromecast Volume.

The first option, CEC, is an HDMI standard that simply put allows devices plugged into your TV to control certain remote functions. It’s magical when it works, but most of the time, it doesn’t. The second option, IR, allows you to use the Chromecast remote to send IR signals right to your TV like your regular TV remote does, bypassing the wonky HDMI solution. And then there’s the last option, Chromecast Volume.
