What Is Screen Casting

Casting involves the transmission of sounds and images through the internet in real-time. Some apps allow you to cast videos from your Samsung phone to a bigger screen directly examples of these apps include YouTube and Netflix.

The TV screen in which you want to cast your phone does not have to be a smart TV as there are third-party casting devices such as Amazon Fire Stick or Chrome cast with which you can stream videos.

When casting your phone screen, what appears on your screen is the movie or video. In addition, you can also choose to close the app and carry out other activities using your phone while the streaming remains uninterrupted.

Connecting Your Phone To Your TV

In this month’s technical article, we will outline step-by-step instructions for mirroring your smartphone screen straight through your media player and onto your TV quickly and easily. Join us as we go in-depth to explore different types of streaming devices, and how to get them all synced up with your smartphone. We have you covered whether you have an Android, iPhone or a Windows phone. The process of screen mirroring occurs when you wirelessly create an exact replica of your smartphone or tablet’s screen and transfer it straight to your TV. Before you begin, make sure that your mobile device’s operating system is updated to the latest version. For newer phones, the most current updates are iOS 9.3, Android Marshmallow 6.0 and Windows 10. Here we go!

Android to Roku

  • To begin, make sure your smartphone and Roku are running off the same wireless network. Roku model numbers 2, 3, 4 and the streaming stick will allow mirroring.

  • Next, pull up the settings menu on your Roku. Select system and choose screen mirroring and make sure the box next to that is checked.

    Re: Screen Mirroring Audio

I win! It’s not a ROKU problem. I now have HD video mirroring with audio to ROKU from Samsung S20 using either SmartView or DEX . This required 2 solid hours of Samsung tech line chat and several reboots.

First open smartview and connect to ROKU then open SmartThings settings to send audio to Roku. Verify that none of your devices are muted. Test with any video app you should have sound and audio from your TV.

Dex is different. It provides a MacOS or Windows10 desktop. You will need to adjust your TV picture settings to see the full screen. Then you use the Samsung TouchPad app to control an on screen cursor. In the lower left corner clicking on the checkerboard pattern opens your Android app icon folders and you can open the app you want to cast to ROKU.

    4. Select either “Prompt” or “Always allow.” If you aren’t concerned about someone gaining access to your Roku and sharing their screen without permission, “Always allow” is a convenient option.

    5. On your Galaxy S10, swipe down from the top of the screen to pull down the Notification center. Pull it down a second time so you can see three rows of icons.

    6. Find Smart View. You may need to swipe to the second or third page of icons before you find it.

    7. Tap “Smart View.” After a few moments, all the nearby devices to which your phone can connect will appear in a list.

    8. When you see it, tap the entry for your Roku.

    9. If you chose to be prompted whenever trying to mirror to the Roku, go back to your TV screen and use the Roku remote to select “Always allow” or “Allow.” After a moment, the Galaxy S10 will connect and display on your TV.

You should now be connected, and everything you display on your Galaxy S10 will appear on the big screen via your Roku.

Your Galaxy S10 may ask if you want to change the aspect ratio to suit the TV in other words, if you’d like to stretch out your phone’s display to fit the TV screen. Choose whichever option you prefer.
