How to Control Netflix on TV/Computer from Your Phone

Mobile devices can use a cable to connect directly to a TV in order to display content played on the mobile device. Cable connections vary based on the mobile device output and TV input requirements.

To connect your Android phone or tablet to your TV, you’ll need a cable to mirror the display of your mobile device content onto your TV. Most newer Android phones and tablets will use a connection Type C or Type D . Most newer TVs will use HDMI connections while older TVs may use VGA.

When using compatible connections to watch Netflix, you may notice a difference in how streamed and downloaded titles display.

Casting Netflix Using Google Cast

If you don’t have a smart TV, video game console, set-top box, or another TV-connected device that has the Netflix app available to install, then a Chromecast is a great alternative. You can start TV shows and movies on your Android or iOS smartphone, cast them right to your big screen using Google Cast, and control them completely from your smartphone.

Make sure both your smartphone and your Chromecast are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

With the Netflix app open on your smartphone, tap on the “Cast” button. You can do this before you start watching a video or during a video in progress. The icon looks like a TV with a Wi-Fi symbol in the corner of it. If you don’t see the Cast button, re-check that both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.

In the pop-up list, locate your Chromecast.

Tap on it to start streaming content to your TV and using your smartphone as a control.

Once you’ve successfully connected the two devices, you can play a video from your smartphone, which will give you on-screen controls to fast forward, rewind, pause, or play the video, as well as change the audio or subtitle settings. You can also continue browsing Netflix or even leave the app altogether so you can multitask.

Using An Amazon Fire Stick

Make sure the Firestick is installed. To do so youll need to plug in the devices power adapter, then plug the device into the TVs HDMI port. Switch the TVs input to the HDMI port that you plugged the Firestick into, and follow the instructions to install via remote.

When the Firestick is installed, you can search for Netflix. Look for the main screen and select Search, then input Netflix.

Select Netflix and select the download icon. Once launched, input your login information.

You should be able to access your Netflix account and watch anything with your TV.

Stream Netflix Via Chromecast

To stream Netflix with Chromecast, you should:

Connect your Chromecast to the TV and to the Wi-Fi network.

Use your phone to sign into Netflix.

Tap on the Cast icon on the top right side of the screen.

Screen Mirroring Without An Internet TV Box

If you don’t have a Chromecast or Fire TV Stick, you may still be able to mirror your device’s screen. Whether you can will depend on which TV, smartphone or tablet you own.

Newer TVs have screen mirroring software built in. You will usually need to head into your network menu to enable it. You may also see ‘wi-fi direct’ in the same menu. This software enables file-sharing between devices without the need for an internet connection. It’s worth turning this on too, as it’s another potential way of getting what’s on your phone on to your TV.

Your phone will also need screen mirroring capabilities. Different manufacturers have different names for it. Typically, you’ll find screen mirroring in the quick access menu or in the network settings of your device.

Huawei’s screen mirroring app is called MirrorShare.
On Samsung phones it will either be called Screen Mirroring or Smart View.
HTC’s app is called HTC Connect.
Sony keeps it simple by calling its app Screen Mirroring.
On LG phones it is called Miracast.

The names are the same across each brand’s smartphones and tablets.

How To Sign In To Netflix

Once you’ve got your device set up, you’ll open the Netflix app and be presented with a login screen. Recently, Netflix added the option to sign on with a separate device, even on older streamers like the PS3. No more typing long usernames and passwords with a remote, just click on Sign on from Web at the bottom right of the screen. The device will give you a choice of a QR symbol or a code to type into an already-connected device here. However, if your TV or streamer doesn’t have this capability, and you need to enter your Netflix login manually, first confirm the login details on a computer or phone first before trying it on your TV.
