How To Connect Nintendo Switch To The TV In 10 Minutes
After its official release in March 2017, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite have become a significant hit in the history of the gaming industry. Many people have even labeled it as The King of Gaming Consoles. The reason for this lies within its exceptional level of portability. Whether you want to play Super Mario in the comfort of your home or Animal Crossing while riding the bus, this device is the only thing youll ever need for gaming wherever you go since it can transition from a handheld gadget into a home console. However, with it being a hybrid device, how to connect Nintendo Switch to TV can be a little tricky. But dont fret!
In this article, well walk you through the process, including an explanation for the possible reasons why your Switch cant connect to the television.
Can I Connect Switch Lite To TV The Focus Of The Switch Lite Is Different
When Nintendo first announced the Nintendo Switch, one of its main selling points was versatility. The idea of having a console you can play on your TV and you can take with you is a powerful one. However, it turns out most people were simply using it in handheld mode and not connecting it to larger displays.
Nintendo has been gathering data on how we use our Nintendo Switch consoles, and the overwhelming consensus for the Switch is that people more often than not play in handheld mode. I think we all knew that to be the case, but Nintendo has taken it to heart and made the Switch Lite solely an on-the-go device for this reason.
The Nintendo Switch Lite is currently available for just $200. That’s a $100 saving over the original Switch. It is available in four different colors coral, yellow, turquoise, and gray. Not sure what titles to start with? Check out these Nintendo Switch Lite games.

Connecting a Nintendo Switch
Step 1
Connect another HDMI cable from the Out port on the Capture Card to your TV.
Step 3
Connect the USB cable from the Capture Card to your computer.
When using a Wii U youll want to make sure the TV Audio-Output Type is set to Stereo so that all audio is picked up by the capture card. The Switch does not have a standard video out and so it must be in the dock for the capture card to work. This is the reason why the Switch Lite will not work with a capture card. There is also no way, as of this writing, to participate in voice chat and stream or record at the same time. No audio will be output if headphones are connected to the Switch for the capture card to pick up. There is an app for Android and IOS devices, but there are no Elgato products that solve this.
One thing to note, however, is that the capture card needs power to pass through the signal to your TV and it gets that power from your computers USB port. If your computer isnt on or the capture card isnt connected to your computer, you will not get a picture on your TV. If thats stated anywhere in the literature I missed it and was very confused for a couple minutes the first time it happened to me.
Can You Cast Your Nintendo Switch To TV
You probably know that it is possible to wirelessly cast mobile phone and tablet displays to TV. This is typically done using Google Chromecast, which also works with computers running the Chrome browser. Various wireless HDMI options are currently available, with TVs and media streaming devices capable of receiving video data and displaying it.
Chromecast and Apple Airplay are the most famous examples, although Miracast is supported by more devices and platforms, including Windows 10.

If you’ve ever cast video from an app running on a phone , you’re probably wondering if the same feature is available on the Nintendo Switch. Better still, can you stream games to your TV wirelessly?
Sadly not. Currently it isn’t possible to wirelessly connect or cast the Nintendo Switch display to your TV. However, there is a crowdfunded campaign, the Genki ShadowCast, which lets you hook any came console up to a computer with a USB-C input.
From here you could potentially output the video to a TV over wireless HDMI, although latency might take a hit.

Connecting A Nintendo Switch To A TV
Connecting a Nintendo Switch to a TV is a simple process. We have broken it down into easy steps for you to follow along. The steps are as follows:
The dock is a rectangular, black-colored charging accessory. It comes with your Nintendo Switch.
If by any chance you have lost yours, you can buy replacements from Nintendo.
You will find a small hinged door on the back of the dock. Open it and there you will find three labeled ports.
These are the USB-C power input or AC Adapter, the HDMI output, and a USB 3.0 port for additional storage.
Plug in the USB-C power input or the AC adapter into the top port. The other end of the AC adapter connects to a power outlet. Make sure the power outlet is working properly.
You need to connect one end of it to the Nintendo Switch HDMI cable output in the dock. Again, connect the other end to any HDMI port on your television.
Route the cable through the notch in the dock and close the small door. Now, put the Switch into the dock carefully.
Make sure the charging ports are correctly lined up with the connectors inside the dock.
Hold the small black button on the back on each side of the Switch. Gently lift them to detach the joy-cons from the switch.
You will need to do this step if your intention is to use JOY-cons for docked play.

Solution : Power Cycling Entire Setup
Before we try any technical workarounds, you should try power cycling your entire setup. Power cycling is the act of completely reinitializing your peripherals so all their temporary configurations are reset and when they turn on, they would have to create new configuration files. The act of power cycling is extremely popular and works with computers and consoles alike and is usually the first step in any troubleshooting process.
Before you power cycle, make sure that any unsaved data is saved. In some cases, some temporary settings might get set to default so keep this in mind.
If you fail to fix the issue through power cycling, move on to the next solution. This means that there is no issue with temporary configurations and the problem may lie with the hardware modules.

What do you do when you want to stream the newest console exclusive game but also use your custom overlay and scenes? You use a capture card, of course! Capture cards take the signal from your console and split it so that it can go to your computer for streaming or recording and to your TV so you can play with zero latency.
There are a couple different brands to choose from, but the industry leader has to be Elgato. Elgato makes two different types of capture cards, ones that install directly into your computer via a PCI slot, and ones that connect via USB. Were going to take a look at the latter, and in that category Elgato makes three different cards the HD60, HD60 S, and the HD60 S+. You dont see the HD60 around much anymore, but the set up is the same. There are differences between the capture cards, but they basically do the same thing, just at different quality levels.
How To Set Up A Nintendo Switch
Dont know how to set up your brand new Nintendo Switch? Cant figure out why you cant buy games from the Nintendo E-Shop? Heres how to set everything up.
Try to always purchase games and DLC from the same region
If youre in a country that doesnt support the E-Shop, you need to be careful when setting up your account
Heres how to set up a Nintendo Switch. For people living in America, Australia or other countries where the Nintendo E-Shop is supported, its pretty straightforward. But for people who are living in Singapore, Indonesia and other countries where we dont have the Nintendo E-Shop, there are some steps to take note of when setting up your console if you want to be able to purchase games digitally. Lets get started.
Startup the console and choose the language you want to use the Switch in. Thats English for me. As for the region, you could always choose your own region if it shows up here. Unfortunately, Singapore isnt here, so if your country doesnt show up here, any region is fine. You do have to remember though, that it is best to purchase all games AND DLC in the same region, otherwise, some DLC might not work properly if purchased in a different region from your game. Accept the end-user agreement next, then youll move on to connecting your console to a WiFi network.
Now that thats done, you can head on to the E-Shop below, fire that up and buy all the games you want! And thats how you set up a Nintendo Switch.

How A Nintendo Switch Normally Connects To TV
The video and power cabling on a Nintendo Switch is routed into the back of the dock. You probably recall from setting the device up that the ports are covered with a hinged door. Behind here you’ll find, in order, the USB-C power input, a USB 3.0 port for additional storage, and the HDMI output.
Power and data for all these connections are converted to USB-C which is then routed around the bottom of the dock. Here, a single USB-C port connects to the docked Nintendo Switch. This single port charges the battery and keeps the device powered when docked. It also routes video data to your TV via HDMI and manages data from a USB storage device.
How To Connect Nintendo Switch Lite To TV
Before we begin, I just want to say that this process may seem dumb, but it is the only way you can make this happen. A YouTuber named Tech Yesterday first came up with this idea. Rather than trying to connect the Nintendo Switch Lite to the TV, projecting the screen on the TV through a recording device.
The basic principle is that a device will record the screen of the Switch lite and mirror it to the TV in real-time. The recording device can be your phone or any other good-quality recorder. Now, two questions arise from this, latency and quality.
Latency is likely the primary issue that can make the game unplayable. To make latency minimal and actually playable, the recording device needs to be directly connected to the TV and not wirelessly. This will make the latency minimal and actually playable.
The quality of the stream depends on your recording device. Most latest generation phones can shoot videos in 4K. Also, the bright screen of the Switch lite makes the recording look quite good.
To set this up, you will have to fix the recording device and Nintendo Switch light, without moving. This can be done using a tripod or a gimble. Connect your controller to the Nintendo Switch light to play the game.
