Expectation co-founder Fincham, who was director of television at ITV during the time that Downton Abbey became a global phenomenon, created the drama. He writes an episode, while Glen Laker and Liz Lake are also penning installments.

Deadline hears that the project has been close to going into production for some time, but has been delayed amid the coronavirus pandemic. Filming will finally begin next month, with Richard Signy and Darcia Martin directing.

The story will focus on Arnold, whose lifestyle on a battered houseboat in Chelseas Cheyne Walk contrasts sharply with the affluent elite whose crimes he helps solve alongside partner D.C. Priya Shamsie, played by Luther actress Sonita Henry.

Their caseload includes investigating a stonemasons workshop at Brompton Cemetery a fashionable school for international students a family-owned Italian restaurant and a local garden center linked to Chelsea FC soccer hooliganism.

As well as solving crime, Arnold hopes to move back into the apartment he shared with his estranged wife, an art dealer named Astrid. She will be portrayed by Tin Star actress Anamaria Marinca.

Fincham, who works in Londons Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, said the location was the perfect precinct for a long-running crime series, suggesting that Expectation believes the show can have a life well beyond Season 1. Its known for its wealth and history, but theres so much more to it than that, he added.

When Does Season 10 Of Call The Midwife Air & Where Can I Watch It

  • Save

is a popular BBC programme about a group of nursing midwives working in the East End of London during the late 1950s and 1960s.

The series is based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth, who worked with an Anglican religious order in the poverty-stricken East End of London.

Production schedules for most shows have been a bit inconsistent as we all deal with the global COVID-19 pandemic, and had to shut down filming in 2020 due to lockdowns.

Plans for a Christmas special were on hold during the production shut down. Thankfully, they were able to resume, and the annual Christmas special was able to air on time.

So what about season 10? Unfortunately, the impact of the pandemic on production reduced season 10 to 7 hour-long episodes instead of the usual 8.

Those episodes premiered in the UK back in April and May of 2021.

Is Nonnatus House Being Knocked Down

Acorn TV | Where the Heart Is 5 Clip

We dont know!

In the season nine finale, Nonnatus House did secure a victory after Nurse Trixie Franklin made a passionate speech and persuaded the authorities not to demand impossible rent or slash the Orders budget. But this stay of execution only lasts for a year.

And the building itself is still due for demolition in the next two years, as the surrounding streets are bulldozed to make way for new development.

It reflects what was going on in the East End at that time, and indeed what happened to the original order of nuns who were based there and whose work inspired our series, said Heidi Thomas as she discussed the fate of Nonnatus House at the Radio Times Covers Party.

I think it would not feel very realistic if they werent under some sort of threat. Their premises are rented, we know theyve already had to move once before because of an unexploded bomb that then exploded. And now everything is being torn down around them.

However, when the show was recommissioned in April 2021, BBC Director of Drama Piers Wenger did say: We are delighted to have secured the future of Call The Midwife for two further series beyond those which are currently in production, and look forward to enjoying more adventures for the inhabitants of Nonnatus House for years to come.
