DISH subscribers can no longer receive and watch NFL on FOX games, Nascar on FOX, FOX Prime shows like Masked Singer, 911 and Call Me Kat , plus Louisvilles #1 local news operation WDRB NEWS. Subscribers can also no longer view CW Prime shows like Superman & Lois, Texas Walker, plus WBKI Happy Hour Comedies including Young Sheldon, Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, as well as other daytime shows like Judge Judy, Dr. Phil and Family Feud.

This latest local channel drop by DISH now makes four Louisville channels in total missing from the satellite lineup. It is due to an impasse on a new retransmission consent agreement with Block Communications, Inc that would give DISH the right to carry the broadcast channels.

We have negotiated in good faith with DISH to come to a fair-market agreement, said Dale R. Woods, VP of BCI Broadcasting. We even offered DISH nine extensions just in this past month to keep our stations available to subscribers and get a deal done.

Fox News and Fox Business have blocked Dish Network access. The TV provider was engaged in contract renewal talks which stalled with Rupert Murdochs News Corp. It is not uncommon for networks to block access as part of their contract negotiation tactics with satellite and cable providers.

Dish announced the shutdown in service on its website. The company claims that 21st Century Fox attempted to introduce new channels into the mix during contract negotiations.

Dish Network claims that the channels introduced during negotiations were not currently up for renewal. Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. , the Company or Sinclair, announced Monday that it is unlikely that a carriage agreement with DISH Network will be reached before the Aug. 16, 2021 expiration of their current agreement for DISHs carriage of Sinclairs broadcast stations and Tennis Channel. As a result, all Sinclair broadcast TV stations and Tennis Channel would no longer be carried by DISH Network. In total, 112 broadcast TV stations are expected to be dropped, including 102 ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC affiliates.

On March 4, 2012, Dish Network announced that it would no longer carry the AMC Networks family of cable channels upon the expiration of the satellite provider’s distribution agreement with the company at the end of June 2012, citing that AMC Networks charged an excessive amount in retransmission consent payments from the service for their carriage and low audience viewership for the channels.

On June 30, 2012, Dish dropped the three AMC Networks properties, replacing AMC with HDNet movies, IFC with HDNet, and WE tv with Style. The move coincided with a new agreement between Dish and AT& T U-verse.

On July 12, 2012, AMC said in an e-mailed statement that it would stream over the Internet the season premiere of “Breaking Bad” to DISH customers. “Dish subscribers can register online starting July 13 for the show, which airs on July 15. We want to give Dish customers an extra week to switch providers so they can enjoy the rest of the season.”

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.After Tegna and Dish were unable to reach a new carriage agreement, the Tegna-owned local stations were dropped from the Dish TV lineup on the evening of October 6.

The blackout impacts 3 million Dish subscribers in 53 markets.

In a statement, Tegna spokesperson Anne Bentley said Dish has refused to reach a fair, market-based agreement with us based on the competitive terms weve used to reach deals with numerous other providers that reflect the current market. While Dish is one of our smaller distributors, we regret any inconvenience for any of our customers, and hope that Dish will come back to the table to get a deal done to return our valuable programming to their system.

In a press release on the blackout, Dish complained that two parties could not come to an agreement because Tegna has been asking for a massive fee increase to nearly a billion dollars and holding viewers hostage during football season.

We made a fair offer to keep Tegna stations available to our customers, but Tegna rejected it, forcing the removal of its channels, said Brian Neylon, group president, Dish TV. Tegna is looking to sell its stations to the highest bidder and is simply trying to exploit Dish customers as a way to get the maximum price and further fatten their wallets.

The Ongoing Dispute Is Over How Much Tegna Charges Dish To Carry The Channels

In its statement, Dish explains that broadcasters such as Tegna began charging cable and satellite companies for the right to carry the “free” network channels for the public nearly two decades ago. However, the satellite provider argues that fees have skyrocketed since and that the broadcaster is simply trying to position itself to cash in big when they attempt to sell rights to the networks later on.
