Native 8K content is still extremely rare, and we’re still a generation or two of graphics cards and games consoles away from 8K gaming really taking off. The prices of 8K TVs are also much higher and by focusing your budget there, you miss out on much greater innovation in panel type and brightness the latest generation OLEDs really are something special.

However, if you have 8K content you want to watch, then there are no 4K TVs that can deliver the same kind of picture quality. The upscaling engines are also pretty good, so it’s certainly possible to enjoy 4K content on an 8K TV and see an improvement over native 4K designs, but it’s still a hard sell in 2022.

How We Test Input Lag Time

We test input lag using an HDFury 4K Diva 18Gbps HDMI matrix with an Xbox One X as a source. The matrix processes the source video to 4K, then transmits the picture to the TV with a black box overlaid on the center of the screen. A light sensor placed on the screen measures the box as it flashes, determining how long the TV takes between when the signal is sent and the picture changes, down to the tenth of a millisecond.

The Diva can measure input lag with both 1080p and 4K pictures, though so far we’ve seen deviations between the two resolutions to be negligible. Resolution doesn’t appear to affect input lag when image processing features are disabled .

We record lag times with the TV’s game mode enabled, since input lag is most important for gaming. We also note that input lag in other picture modes for reference, but the numbers below are specifically in game modes.

Lg G2 Oled TV Review: Design

As the name may suggest, LGs Gallery Series TVs prioritize design. The set is wrapped by a minimalistic silver frame with subtle texture, but it doesnt curl over the screen, instead maintaining a bezel-less appearance.

The G2 OLED TVs one-inch-deep body holds everything the TV needs, so you wont find a rear protruding component box like you might on other OLED TVs. The uniform chassis also features a recessed mount and input panels on the back.

How come? The LG G2 isnt meant to sit on a stand or hang on the wall with any ole VESA mounting bracket. Instead, its designed to be mounted with the companys proprietary bracket, which comes in the box. We did request the compatible stand for testing, but it definitely distracted from the TVs intended flush-mount effect, so plan on hanging the G2.

LG recommends professional installation with a recessed AV box for the full Gallery Series effect. But thanks to a clever cable-management system, unsightly cords are kept organized, even when we plugged in several peripherals.
