The Grither is a monster that appears in Tales from the Darksides third season festive horror tale, Season of Belief. Tales From The Darkside: 10 Episodes That Are Still Scary Today

Director George A. Romero created the classic anthology series Tales From The Darkside. Some of its most chilling episodes are still very scary today.

In the 1980s, horror anthology TV shows were making a comeback. Self-contained scary tales were very popular in the 1950s and 1960s, including such shows as The Outer Limits, Thriller, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and, of course, The Twilight Zone. After the success of horror anthology films like Creepshow, horror anthologies started to become popular again, especially on the small screen.

A reboot of The Twilight Zone premiered, as well as Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Freddy Krueger hosted his own anthology program, and Night Of The Living Dead director, George A. Romero, created the classic anthology series, Tales From The Darkside. Tales From The Darkside is fondly remembered and one of the quintessential horror TV shows to ever air in the 20th century. Here are 10 episodes that still scare us to this day.

My Ghostwriter The Vampire

Vampires are always a good plot device. Struggling author Peter is trying to write the next great vampire novel. He buys a coffin for inspiration and discovers Count Draco, a real vampire.

They strike a deal, Draco will give Peter 900 years worth of vampire stories in exchange for living in his house and a split of the royalties. After Peters book becomes a best seller he reneges on the deal, infuriating Count Draco.

One thing I know, you should never make a vampire mad! Youll have to watch the episode to see if Count Draco gets his revenge.

Tales from the Darkside is an anthology horror series created by George Romero, the man responsible for bringing us the zombie apocalypse. In 1982 Romero directed Creepshow, a horror anthology movie based on horror comics from the 1950s called Tales from the Crypt.

Creepshow was written by another master of horror, Stephen King. Tales from the Crypt wouldnt be adapted into a TV series until the late 1980s, a year after Tales from the Darkside ended.

The massive success of Creepshow led directly to the creation of Tales from the Darkside. Warner Bros. wanted to turn Creepshow into a series. They used the same inspiration but took away the comic styling of Creepshow and called it Tales from the Darkside.

The series used works from some of the biggest authors of the time Harlan Ellison, Micheal Bishop, Frederik Pohl, Micheal McDowell, Clive Barker and Stephen King. Tales from the Darkside ran for four season and ended with a feature film Tales from the Darkside: The Movie in 1990.

Like Friday the 13th: The Series, Tales from the Darkside was a late night show. I first discovered it during Thanksgiving break 1984 while my sister and I were staying up late the day before Thanksgiving watching TV.

Oh, I guess I should mention it, there may be some spoilers.

Evil Kills Tonight: The Top 15 Kills In The Halloween Franchise

Tales From The Darkside Opening Credits and Theme Song ...

Michael Myers adventures in murdering babysitters have certainly changed since his silent and disturbing introduction in 1978. While John Carpenter introduced us to a more subdued yet equally terrifying Shape in his first film, the series would soon transform the white-masked menace into something more. Myers went from a shadow, lurking amongst the town of Haddonfield, strangling and slicing promiscuous teens to a creatively ruthless and unstoppable killer, hellbent on creating carnage wherever he goes.

The carnage in this franchise doesnt stop at Michael, as Tommy Lee Wallaces Halloween III also offers some chaos and brutal imagery, despite its disconnection from the rest of the series. Nevertheless, its evident in its 12 film span that the Halloween series is ripe with some of the most memorable deaths in horror history. And, as we fans take in the latest, shockingly divisive installment in the franchise, Halloween Kills, I figured its time we sat down and counted up the ten best kills in the Halloween series.

But first, some Honorable Mentions

15- Earl Ford, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers

Certainly not as graphic as later entries on this list, but this kill in this fan-favorite sequel is quite honestly the best in the film. Michael ripping out a mans throat while on the roof of a moving truck is no easy task, and yet he does it with such gruesome intent.

14- Nurse Karen Bailey, Halloween II

12- Sondra, Halloween Kills

Episodes Of The Original Tales From The Darkside You Can Watch Online

Iâm going to withhold writing any premature thoughts I may have on the forthcoming reboot of the classic 1980s television show Tales From the Darkside, aside from my worry that while Sleepy Hollow producers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are riding a wave of success, the allure of the show theyâre planning to revive wasnât its cutting-edge special effects or good-looking actors and actresses. Rather, the show had the same grainy, dirty quality as most horror films of time, which added a kind of creepiness todayâs big-budget TV shows canât match.

Thereâs that, and also the fact that the new show probably wonât have any episodes based on John Cheever stories, like the originalâs âThe Enormous Radio.â Sadly, itâs not among the many Tales From the Darkside episodes you can watch online â but here are ten other great installments posted on YouTube.

    10. âThe Word Processor of the Godsâ

Stephen King had teamed up with George A. Romero a few years earlier for the film anthology Creepshow, and the two reunited for this episode about a writer who inherits a word processor with a very special power.

    9. âThe Milkman Comethâ

Although the milkman hasnât been a presence in daily life for a few generations now, this episode about a milkman who can also deliver wishes will still resonate with those of us who have only bought our 2% from the grocery store.

    8. âTrick or Treatâ

    7. âMonsters in My Roomâ

    6. âIn the Cardsâ

    5. âSnip, Snipâ

    I Can’t Help Saying Goodbye

    Tales from the Darkside (1990)

Karen is a shy young girl living with her mom, sister, and her sister’s fiancee. But whenever she suspiciously says goodbye to someone and touches their face, the person dies soon after. Is Karen predicting these deaths, or is she the one causing them?

This just may be one of the most suspenseful episodes in the series. The guest stars are terrific, especially Days Of Our Lives star, Alison Sweeney, as Karen.
