Will Friends: The Reunion Leave Hbo Max
Unlike the big Warner Bros. movies that are being released on HBO Max day-and-date with their theatrical debut dates, Friends: The Reunion is an HBO Max original and will remain on the streaming service in perpetuity. In other words, you can watch and rewatch it as many times as you want, for as long as you want.
What Will Happen During The Friends Reunion
Announced back in February 2020, the one-off special, “Friends: The Reunion,” reunites all six stars of the original cast back on the Warner Bros. soundstage for an unscripted interview. The reunion gives fans the opportunity to hear the stars chat about the popular NBC sitcom that made them household namesnot to be confused with a reboot in which they would reprise their iconic roles.
During an interview on Rob Lowe’s “Literally!” podcast, Lisa Kudrow explained, “It’s us getting together, which just doesn’t happen a lotand has never happened in front of other people since 2004.”
Sixteen years after the series finale, the comedy remains one of the most popular shows of all time, amassing a whopping 62 Primetime Emmy Award nominations during its 236-episode run.

It’s The One That Friends Fans Have Been Waiting For For 17 Years.
After endless speculation and its stars being pestered about the possibility of it happening from the moment, pretty much, that they left their keys at Monica’s for the last time, the Friendsreunion is finally here.
Which means all six stars – Jennifer Aniston,Courteney Cox,Lisa Kudrow,Matt LeBlanc,Matthew Perry andDavid Schwimmer – back on screen together, reportedly earning around $2-2.5 million each for taking part. They were just on a break, after all.

First of all, this isn’t a reboot
While the stars will no doubt be discussing what they imagine their characters might be up to in 2021, this is not a full glimpse into the Friends future. While lots of details have been kept under wraps, we do know this is an unscripted show with special guests, and not a revival episode. Which means we get the actors, not characters, reminiscing about the good old times in a talk show format.
Wait a minute so Friends wasn’t filmed in New York?
Um, no. While the show was set in Manhattan, exterior shots aside, most of the series was filmed in LA.

Doing a prime-time show on network TV meant the actors didnt get to swear much. But Aniston and Kudrow did get to demonstrate their foul-mouthed talents on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in a game of Celebrity Curse Off. Even with the bleeps, we generally know what theyre saying, and its even somewhat educational the profanities are drawn from Greek, French, Yiddish and Kudrows teenage sons vocabulary. There are also a lot of variations on terms for oral sex. After years of waiting, Friends is finally back!
HBO Max’s unscripted Friends: The Reunion is out TONIGHT – Thursday, May 27 – and we can watch it here in New Zealand too!
Kiwi Friends fans will be able to tune into the special – airing at the same time as the US – at 7pm on TVNZ 2!It will also be available on TVNZ OnDemand as well.

The special will see the cast of Friends – Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer – returning to the comedy’s original soundstage.
The full trailer shows the cast gathering on a recreation of their iconic set, playing a trivia game about the show, doing a table read of a scene, and sharing memories of starring on the hit sitcom and the phenomena it became.
The stars will also reenact famous scenes, and there will no doubt be tears.
Upon returning to the set, Aniston said “we’ve literally just slipped right back”, while Kudrow says “we have such a bond from this show”.
And the cast were quizzed about one detail viewers were left hanging on for – whether Ross and Rachel were actually “on a break”.
News of the official release comes after Cox teased how “emotional” it was when filming wrapped in April, telling the Ellen DeGeneres show on May 6: “It’s an unscripted reunion but we got to be on Stage 24 for the first time, all of us, in like I forgot how many years. 15 years? Or 17 years?”
“I’m going to see everyone next week for the first time in many years.”

And all the stars revealed what they believe their characters would be doing today, with Aniston saying of Rachel Green: “I would like to have maybe started a clothing line of my own, and it’s sort of a small franchise… and I live in New York City on the Upper East Side.”
Cox said of Monica: “I always just feel like Monica would be doing something competitively with other mothers and trying to outdo them. Whether it’s the bake sale at school or something. I mean, she’d be so annoying. She’d be at the head of the PTA or something.”
Kudrow said she thinks Phoebe Buffay “is living in Connecticut with Mike and their kids, and she’s in charge of the arts programme for the school. And just the advocate for her kids because they’re different like she was”.
Perry said he thinks Chandler Bing “would be a wonderful father. And a wonderful comedy writer”, while LeBlanc said Joey Tribbiani would, of course, “have opened a chain of sandwich shops”.
Schwimmer said Ross Geller would “have invested in Joey’s sandwich shop and lost a lot of his savings for his kids”.
Who else is in it?
The rest of the celebrity guest list is an eclectic mix, featuring David Beckham,Justin Bieber, BTS, James Corden, Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevingne, Lady Gaga, Kit Harington, Mindy Kaling and Malala Yousafzai. No information has been given on what they’ll be doing but hopefully they’re fans, otherwise it could get awkward.

Coxs lighthearted sitcom Cougar Town which, despite its title, was mostly about friends hanging out was a good vehicle for Friends reunions, offering interesting opportunities for role reversals. Kudrow plays the acerbic Dr. Amy Evans in a 2010 episode, a dermatologist who enjoys flaunting her superiority over everybody: patients, lovers, would-be friends. Its almost as if Phoebe became Monica. Then, when Aniston appears in a separate episode from 2010, playing a kooky therapist named Glenn, its almost as if Rachel became Phoebe. Glenn is inclined to burn sage, invoke Buddha and say things like, My anger is a purple balloon, and I let it go. Jules ultimately decides to let Glenn go, calling her a nut job.
When Jules runs into Perrys quirky Sam Johnston in a 2014 episode, we get echoes of the Monica-Chandler romance: The two Cougar Town characters start dating and ultimately get engaged after he throws a circuslike parade for her. Never mind that Jules is already married to Grayson , who finds himself compelled to propose again to his own wife. The best parts of the episode are some outtakes in the last minute, which reveal a genuine warmth between the two actors.

It Was An Emotional Experience For Everybody
Speaking to Good Morning America with the full cast ahead of the reunion’s release, Cox said, “I don’t think … any of us had any idea how emotional we would be when we walked onto the set.” The studio looked “exactly the same,” she explained, “and it was so emotional that we just started crying.”
Perry agreed. “Reuniting this cast againâI knew it was gonna be a really seriously emotional experience. And it has been,” he said.
Cox and Aniston also revealed that they’ve been watching reruns of the show just to catch up, and even that was a tear-jerking experience. “Laughed and cried,” Cox said of their recent viewing, noting iconic moments like Ross and Rachel’s first kiss. “That was so powerful.”
“Yeah, she was in tears,” Aniston confirmed.
Who Will Be On The Friends Reunion
Along with the main cast members returning for the HBO Max special, the reunion will also include appearances from special guests, including stars like Reese Witherspoon, who played Rachels sister in the show, as well as celebs like Justin Bieber, David Beckham and Lady Gaga.

You Can Watch The Friends Reunion Exclusively On Hbo Max
The special program arrives on May 27, and will be available to stream solely through HBO Max. A subscription costs $15 per month, but depending on what kind of television you get HBO through, you may already have access to Max for no added cost. Per CNet, people with HBO through Verizon, Hulu, Altice, and DirecTV all can access HBO Max.
Per the service’s website, there aren’t many free trial options out there for new subscribers, meaning you will likely have to pay for at least a month of Max. The reunion is one hour, and as of now, it’s unclear how long it will be available on the streaming service.
The full series of Friendshas been available exclusively on HBO since 2020. Though it used to air on Netflix, the streaming service no longer has the sitcom’s rights.
The Ones Where They Seek Professional Help
Kudrow, Cox, Schwimmer, LeBlanc and Perry on Web Therapy
Kudrows self-absorbed therapist character Fiona Wallice treated a number of former Friends on her series Web Therapy. These werent warm and fuzzy reunions, but they were fun to watch.
Cox plays a psychic named Serena Duvall, whos having trouble with her visions. Kudrows Phoebe might have believed in psychics, but Fiona is a skeptic, calling the notion an assembly of nonsense. The two women butt heads over which of them is more legitimate, and it leads to public humiliation.
Schwimmers character, Newill Miller, acts like an obsessed stalker, showing up uninvited at Fionas home. He wants her to do some sexual role-playing in which she would take the part of Al Pacinos character in Scent of a Woman, for therapeutic reasons.
Another of Fionas patients LeBlancs flirty Nick Jericho fears that he might have a gambling addiction. He wants Fiona to come online and watch him play poker, and offers her 1 percent of his winnings in trade. Fiona, however, would rather play on her own account, and clean Nick out. These sessions recall the old Friends poker games, but with higher stakes and better bluffing.
Finally, theres Perrys Tyler, a compulsive liar who says he feels an inexplicable connection with Fiona but is he bluffing, too? As both Phoebe and Chandler know, pretending to desire someone can be a way of disarming them. Fiona misses all the warning signs until its too late.
