Watch Free With Network TV Apps
While you typically cant stream your local network through the apps below, they offer some free content. In most cases, the latest seasons of primetime shows are available to watch through these apps free. However, while there is free content, dont expect them to have everything you want to watch available.
NBC App
You can watch several NBC Shows using the NBC app or at NBC.com. They make you wait 8 days before watching the most current episode, but the full-length episodes are available for the current shows free on most streaming devices. You just need to search your devices channel store for the NBC App.
Current episodes for the following shows latest season were available through the NBC app: American Ninja Warrior, Connecting, Dateline NBC, Ellens Game of Games, This Is Us, Transplant, The Voice, The Wall, and Weakest Link.
ABC App
While the ABC app requires a TV provider login for some content, current episodes of ABC shows available free. A lock symbol identifies which episodes require you to link your participating TV provider account. However, Locked episodes for most shows will become available to watch without signing into your participating TV provider account 8 days after the episode first airs on TV.
The shows look to keep at least the last 5 episodes available free. You can download the app to your mobile or streaming device or watch on ABCs website.

WUTV-TV Fox29, WPXJ-TV Channel 51 and WNYB-TV Channel 26 will transition to new frequencies by Aug. 2 as channels make room for new 5G and other mobile broadband services.
You may or may not be alerted to the switch with a message on your screen that says Weak or no signal, Rescan your TV or This channel is moving frequencies.
Just your luck, right? You finally break free of subscription-based TV and, all of a sudden, things start to get annoying.
But dont freak out. Its easy to recover your channels and you dont even have to sit on hold with customer service.
To keep your channels, and possibly find new ones, all you have to do is rescan your TV.
It doesnt cost anything and you probably already went through the same process the first time you set up your TV or converter box.
Heres how to do it:
Once youve rescanned, youll find the channels at the same channel number they were listed on your TV before.
You probably wont need any new equipment unless a station moves from UHF to VHF.
If you have an antenna that only picks up UHF, or that doesnt pick up VHF very well, youll have to invest in a new one to get that channel.

As we mentioned earlier, the FCC is transitioning to the ATSC 3.0 broadcast standard. Its a fascinating change thats worth looking into. In the next decade, ATSC 3.0 will allow us to watch broadcast TV in 4K on practically any device, including phones, tablets, and cars.
Naturally, channel scanning would be a pain on a handheld device or in a car. As you move around town frequencies will shift in quality and availability. So, the FCC will eliminate the need for channel scanning in ATSC 3.0. Eventually, youll forget that you ever had to sit for 10 minutes in front of your TV while it scans for channels, and this guide will disappear into the ether.
What Do I Do When I See A No Signal Message On One Or More Channels
First check that your TV is set to the correct or Input, try changing the Source or Input to AV, TV, Digital TV or DTV if you havent already.
If your No Signal message is not due to incorrect Source or Input being selected, then its most likely caused by a set up or antenna fault.
In the majority of cases, pixelating pictures or a “No Signal” message from time to time are symptoms of reception issues.

How Many Channels Can You Get

Whether you’re using the tuner built into your TV or an external box such as TiVo, you’ll nevertheless receive OTA TV as a digital signal: analog signals were switched off in 2009. In the Settings menu of your device, you should find either a Channel or Tuning section, and from there you should be able to activate an Auto setting. The tuner on the TV or DVR will then find all of the available channels, and if it’s got a program guide it will then arrange all of the upcoming shows into a grid for you.
If you live in an area with good reception you’ll be able to get at least the major network channels and their affiliates, including your local PBS station. Depending on where your house is you may have some issues due to natural or man-made obstacles, and searching for a problem channel on can tell you if it’s a common one.
In addition to the Antennas Direct site mentioned above, the FCC maintains a DTV Reception Maps page where you can enter your address and find the channels available in your area. It grades each station according to frequency as well as signal strength but it won’t tell you which direction the antenna is in.
If you live in a poor reception area you could try a model with a built-in amplifier. But be aware that this can overload your tuner and you could end up with a lot less channels. If you have a model with an amp, try it without first.
How To Choose A Digital TV Antenna
To get free, over-the-air, HD TV, you need an antenna, which can be either outdoor-mounted or located indoors on top of your television. Outdoor antennas are larger and more expensive, but they are able to receive signal from further away. Remember, it is not a question of signal quality like the rabbit ears of yesteryear, its merely a question of if you get the station or not.
So which one should you get? Fortunately, there is a great, non-profit website called AntennaWeb that can help you figure out how far you live from the broadcast towers, and what kind of antenna you should buy. My personal rule of thumb is that the amount you will need to spend on an antenna will roughly be equal to your distance from the broadcast tower in miles multiplied by $1-$1.50 per mile. The antenna I use is about 1 square foot, and I mounted it on my roof with ease. I know others who live even further away who use the same antenna successfully. I also know some people who report great success with smaller, indoor antennas that can rest on top of your computer .

Problem: The TV Is Not Finding Any Channels When You Do A Scan
Possible causes:
- The antenna cable might be loose.
Make sure that you securely attach the antenna cable. Dont forget the collar it has a collar that has to be screwed in. the loose cable might be the reason due to which you are not getting channels in the scan.
- The sensitive cable that comes with the antenna might have broken down due to some reasons.
The most fragile part of many antennas is the cheap cable it comes with. Check for kinks, twists, or sharp bends in the cable which might have broken it. If you have an Ohm meter, check to make sure the cable is still good and working fine. If your cable is an RG59 cable replacing it with RG6 cable is recommended for you.
Antennas For Receiving Dtv
To receive DTV signals from all stations in the area, your antenna needs to be able to receive both VHF channels and UHF channels . Some antennas only provide good reception of VHF or UHF channels, but not both. For example, indoor “rabbit ears” usually need to be augmented with an additional “wire loop” or “bowtie” antenna in order to pick up signals on UHF channels. Many of the antennas being sold as “HDTV Antennas” perform best at receiving UHF signals, but perform less well receiving VHF channels. Check with retail consultants and consumer websites to make sure that any antenna you choose provides good reception of both VHF and UHF channels.
Even if you use a digital-to-analog converter box, you will still need to use an antenna to receive DTV signals. Digital-to-analog converter boxes do not contain additional antennas or signal amplification.
