How To Know If You Have A Smart TV

If your TV was made after 1994 theres a reasonably good chance its a smart TV. If your TV was made after 2010 its almost certainly a Smart TV.

One way to tell if your TV is Smart is to look through the menus. Do you see an option to watch Netflix, Amazon Prime and other streaming video services?

Even if you cant access those options right now just their presence in the menus indicates you have a smart TV.

If you already have a Smart TV, and you already have a home WiFi network, then connecting the two just makes sense. Heres what to do:

    Operating TV With Mobile Phone

To make your mobile phone operate your TV, you may need to install an app known as Smartthings from the app store and install it. Heres how you can do it:

Step 1: Open the playstore app on your Mobile phone

Step 2: Search Smartthings in the search bar.

Step 3: Find the App in the list and tap on it.

Step 4: Once you open the app page, you can see the Install button. Tap on it to sit back and wait for it to install.

Step 5: Register in your smart things app with credentials like name, password, mobile number, and email id.

Step 6: Tap on the dashboard on your Smartthings app.

Step 7: Make sure your TV is auto-discoverable, select your TV from the list and tap on it to connect.

Step 8: Tap on the Blue Button to enable the Remote Mode on the app and wait to connect.

Step 9: Wait for the digital remote to get activated, and then check if you can operate your television with your phone.

Step 10: Enter the menu of your Television

Step 11: Go to settings and select Wifi and Connectivity to make changes in wifi connections.

Step 12: Wait to locate your wifi name to load and insert the password to connect.

    Change Your Internet Connection

Now that you have ensured the WiFi is working on other devices, theres a fair chance that the router blocks the MAC address of your Samsung Smart TV. Heres how you can check:

  • Turn on your Mobile Hotspot.
  • Turn on your Samsung TV and go to WiFi Settings.
  • Connect your TV with the hotspot.
  • If the TV connects with the hotspot, your ISP has blocked the MAC address of the TV.
  • If your internet settings are the reason, contact your internet service provider.

How To Improve Your Wifi Connection

Even if youre using a 5GHz WiFi connection, your streaming experience may deteriorate from time to time depending on your devices location, other electronic interference and the layout of your home.

To improve both wired or wireless connections to your Samsung TV:

    • Move any cordless phones, audio baby monitors or microwave ovens further away from the television. Cordless devices have similar frequencies as WiFi, disrupting signal strength when used near a router.
    • Clear bugs. If you notice that your WiFi connection is unstable, try restarting your router by unplugging it from the power source for at least 30 seconds. Alternatively, switch off the TV for a few minutes, then turn it back on.
    • Ensure the DNS Server Settings are correctly configured: If your TV supports 5GHz WiFi, ensure the DNS Server Settings are appropriately configured.

Disconnect All Other Devices Connected To Wi

Some WiFi routers have a preset limit of the number of devices they can connect to. If youre trying to connect to a wireless hotspot using a smartphone, you should check under device hotspot settings if it has a limit of connected devices. I had this issue on my Android phone once. I was trying to connect to a 4th device, which was my Samsung TV, while 3 other devices were already using my phones data via wireless tethering.

When I disconnected other connected devices or increased the limit of connected devices via hotspot, my Samsung TV instantly got connected to the wireless network. It doesnt matter whether you are trying to connect to a WiFi router or a mobile hotspot, you should try disconnecting all other devices and connect your TV alone.

What Are The Other Devices That Are Compatible With Wifi Direct

Consumers have had access to Wi-Fi Direct for at least a decade, due to a 2011 update from the Digital Living Network Alliance that includes standards for the capability.

Now, there are a plethora of compatible devices available, including ones you might not have thought of.

A direct connection has been available on Android devices since version 2.3, and on Apple devices since iOS 7. .

Direct is also used by a number of entertainment devices to broadcast material or screen mirroring from a smartphone.

Its available on Roku, and many smart TVs also have Wi-Fi Direct connections.

Many accessories that allow wireless connectivity may support Wi-Fi Direct rather than Bluetooth.

Wireless headsets with high-fidelity audio and wireless printers are examples.

WiFi Direct connections can be made in a variety of ways, depending on the device.

You may be required to scan a QR code on some devices.

Some systems need you to enter a numerical PIN.

To establish a connection, you must touch physical buttons on several mobile devices.

As security has become increasingly important, more devices are employing a combination of these measures, and fewer devices are connecting automatically.

How to Fix Samsung TV Connected to WiFi But No Internet

Now that youve set up your Samsung TV, its time to connect it to the internet. When your TV is connected, you can stream videos and watch them on a larger screen, just like you would on your phone.

Wi-Fi is the most convenient and smooth way to access the internet on your Samsung TV.

To connect your TV with Wi-Fi without a remote, youll need to download a remote control app on your phone. We recommend Samsungs SmartThings App.

Youll need to register on the app. After registration:

Go to the SmartThings App your TV should be discoverable. .

After downloading, follow the steps below to connect to a Wi-Fi network:

Network Compatibility With Your Samsung TV

All Samsung Smart TVs launched prior to 2018 support only 2.4Ghz networks. Suppose your WiFi router has a 5Ghz network, your TV wont be able to detect the wireless network. So, if your TV is old, it may not support a 5Ghz network. In that case, you should contact your ISP to adjust the network settings to 2.4Ghz.

Note: The NU6, NU71, NU72, and NU73 models of Samsung TV support 2.4Ghz networks only. You can learn more about the Samsung TV model numbers by heading to my detailed explanation.

    Power Cycle Your Samsung TV

This is the easiest method, and it works most of the time. Its designed to fix temporary issues that hinder your TV from operating normally. There are two ways to power cycle your TV.

    Here is the first option:

  • Ensure your Samsung TV is turned on.
  • On the supplied Samsung remote, press the Power button.
  • Keep pressing this button until the Samsung logo appears on the screen.
  • When the restarting process is complete, the TVs red LED will start blinking faster.
  • Try reconnecting the TV to the WiFi network as its turned on.
  • In case the TV is still unable to connect to WiFi, you should try the second option. Here are the steps for option two:

  • Power on your Samsung TV.
  • Let the television run for approximately 5-to-10 minutes, and then plug the power cable out.
  • Wait for roughly 30 minutes and then power on the TV again.

Download Firmware To Solve Samsung Smart TV Not Connecting To Wifi

For proper functioning, the firmware of the Samsung TV must be updated to the latest version. If it isnt updated, your Samsung TV wont connect to WiFi. So, you have to download the latest version using a computer as your TV cannot be connected to the internet. For that:

    • Determine the model of the Samsung TV you are using through official Samsung website.
    • Now, click on the Download and extract files on a USB drive.
    • Once the download is completed, connect the USB drive to the Samsung TV and press Menu button on the remote.
    • From the screen, go to Support, then select Software Upgrade option.
    • From the options, select By USB and click OK if Samsung TV detects the device and prompts that new update will be installed.
    • Wait for the installation process to complete and check if the issue persists.

To Reset Your Samsung Smart TV:

How to Connect Samsung Smart TV to Wifi Internet (Setup Tutorial)
  • Make sure that the TV is currently powered on.
  • Grab your TV remote and hold the Power button down.
  • Keep your Power button pressed down until you see the Samsung logo flash onscreen.
  • Keep your eyes on the LED on the front of the TV until it turns red and blinks faster.
  • Your TV should eventually turn on again. At that point, you can try reconnecting to your Wi-Fi network to see if that fixed the issue for you.

If it hasn’t, your final option to solve problems on the TV itself without delving into deeper potential internet issues will be to perform a full factory reset on your TV. Just note that any apps or old firmware downloaded to the TV will be reset to how it was out of the box once you’ve completed this process, so you’ll need to reconfigure and install your TV apps from scratch.

    Unplug Samsung TV From Wall

While this fix sounds obvious, unplugging your Samsung TV from the wall socket is the most common way to get the WiFi working again.

The key here is to actually wait the FULL 60 seconds. Have a little bit of patience and make sure its been at least a minute before plugging it back in.

While the TV is unplugged, find and hold the power button on your Samsung TV for 30 seconds. Make sure you are holding the power button on your TV, and not your remote!

This will help to drain any residual power left in the TV and allows the TV to soft reset itself. This is different than simply switching the remote on and off!

Once you plug the TV back in after the 60 seconds, you should see it power back up no problem.

While this fix should work for about 70% of cases, the remaining 30% can be a bit trickier. If youre still having trouble getting your Samsung TV to connect to the internet, try the fixes detailed below.

Re: Connecting Samsung TV To Wireless Network Using Wps

I have a Samsung “smart” tv. I since 2006 have never used WPS. Delete or what ever the process is to remove the wireless connection. Then let the TV scan. When you see your network select it and give the pass phrase and should connect and work.

The Sense Of Security That It Can Provide

Wi-Fi Direct offers few security benefits over other solutions, but it also poses few security threats.

It can be dangerous to use a device linked to another network at the same time.

There are risks involved when using a Direct connection on a device while linked to another network.

Hackers can take down a link, and older protocols like WPS make it easier for them.

You must understand how to keep your Direct connection safe. Wi-Fi Direct can be used by anyone to gain access to information.

Look at how Direct works with your devices security and how to make it safer.

Wi-Fi Direct connections are divided into two categories: temporary and persistent.

A persistent connection allows you to save data on your device and connects it automatically.

Its convenient, but it poses a serious security risk.

Because you cant contact unknown devices, its preferable to keep persistent connections to a minimum.

Temporary connections are more secure because they do not connect automatically.

You can also use temporary pins.

Use newer Wi-Fi Direct connections with stronger security measures and avoid using them in public.

Hackers are continuously on the lookout for new ways to steal data.

Hackers can access mobile devices via Wi-Fi Direct if they have Wi-Fi capabilities enabled, thanks to a recent fault in Linux devices.
