Acorn TV is almost the very definition of a niche streaming service. It concentrates on dramas primarily from the UK and features shows from Australia, New Zealand, and other parts of the world. Many of the shows are murder mysteries, and theres no doubt that the British TV industry loves offering that kind of programming. The service has a small but growing list of exclusive shows. Dont look for too many comedies or any kid shows at all on this service. This one is strictly for adults. If you love UK murder mysteries, this service is for you. If you dont, you might want to bypass this service.

The general consensus from streaming and media experts is that although Apple TV Plus has a solid lineup of original content and fantastic streaming quality, there simply isnt enough original content .
In our original Apple TV review, we noted that while it isnt exactly a runaway success, Apples streaming service is a solid contender. And it keeps adding more impressive content all the time. In addition to a unique three-episode-initial-drop content strategy to get watchers hooked fast, it also features the best streaming bitrate in the business. Plus, at just five bucks a month, Apple isnt asking much for access to its content.
That said, in our comparisons with other top streaming services like Netflix and Disney Plus , the difference in the amount of content is staggering. Although both services cost more than Apple TV Plus, their catalogs are significantly larger and constantly growing.
In fairness to Apple, the company joined the fray late, and with its focus on original content, it cant help but start slow. Its going for quality over quantity. Apple invested a lot of money into Apple Originals and many of them are truly worth watching. Disney Plus has The Mandalorian, Hulu has Handmaids Tale, and Netflix has Stranger Things and many others.
Free Trials And Pricing
Both Acorn and Britbox are paid streaming services, so youll have to commit to a plan to enjoy either one of them.
Acorns paid subscription plan costs $6.99 per month or $69.99 for a year. Britbox is the exact same. If youre paying in British pounds, however, you will encounter a price change. Where Acorn costs £4.99 per month or £49.99 for a year, Britbox costs £5.99 per month or £59.99 for a year.
When it comes to how long the free trial is, it will depend on where youre at for Acorn. Acorns free trial is only seven days for US and overseas users, but 30 days for those in the UK.
Britbox doesnt make it this complicated, though. No matter where youre located, Britboxs free trial only lasts seven days.
Verdict: Its a tie! Unless youre a UK viewer, either service is going to cost you the exact same amount of money, and youll only get a free, seven-day trial. If youre in the UK, however, then Acorn does have a better deal as its just slightly cheaper and offers a longer free trial.

One: Hook Up Your Hdhomerun
To install the HDHomerun, youll need the device, its power cord, an ethernet cable , and a TV antenna or cable box. Im using the Mohu Leaf antenna for this guide.
NOTE: If you have cable, youll almost certainly need to contact your cable provider and have them install a CableCARD in your HDHomerun as well, since the vast majority of cable channels are encrypted.
Once you have everything you need, just plug the HDHomerun into power, connect the TV antenna or cable box to the devices coaxial jack, and use the ethernet cable to connect the HDHomerun to an empty ethernet port on your router. From there, the device will automatically boot up and be ready to go.

All you need to watch Acorn TV are a broadband connection, an account and a compatible device. The service offers good device compatibility, so you can watch on screens big to small depending on your preference.

You can also subscribe to Acorn TV through Prime Video Channels.
