Somehow things are about to get even more dramatic.
After a brilliant end to the BMW Championship in which Patrick Cantlay outlasted Bryson DeChambeau, needing 78 holes to do so, we are all set up for a down-to-the-wire Tour Championship at East Lake featuring 30 of the best golfers in the world to decide the 2021 FedEx Cup champion.
The aforementioned Cantlay will start atop the leader board on Thursday at 10 underunder the Tour Championships Starting Strokes formatwith DeChambeau and Tony Finau in the second and third spots at eight under and seven under respectively. Jon Rahm and Cameron Smith will round out the top five, and defending champion Dustin Johnson has qualified for East Lake for the 13th year in a row. The last two FedEx Cup winners have started in the No. 1 and No. 5 spots respectively. No one has won two years in a row since 1998.
After sitting on the bubble heading into the BMW, Erik Van Rooyen, Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlroy will all make the trip to East Lake to play in the final tour event of the season. A fourth-place finish for McIlroy at Caves Valley has the two-time FedEx Cup winner in the T-16 spot starting at two under this week.
The winner of this event will receive a $15 million share of the $60 million purse and the FedEx Cup trophy.
How To Watch The Pga Championship
The drama on the PGA Tour is heating up just in time for the second major of the year at Kiawah Island. The Ocean Course was the site of Rory McIlroys second major win and first PGA title in 2012. The course was treacherous that week, especially during the blustery second round, and it could present an even tougher test this year.
McIlroy is rounding into form just in time for an attempt at his third PGA victory, having finished off a comeback victory at the Wells Fargo Championship two weeks ago. But hes not the only major winner showing signs of a potential big week.
Three-time major champion Jordan Spieth has rediscovered his game in 2021 after years of struggles. The popular star captured his first win since 2017 at the Texas Open in April. He then finished T3 at the Masters, one of seven top-10s in his last nine starts. With a win this week, Spieth could complete the career grand slam, adding more incentive and nerves to the proceedings.
Fortunately for golf fans, few tournaments offer more extensive coverage than this years PGA. ESPN will carry 12 straight hours of coverage on Thursday and Friday, split between the TV network and ESPN+, which will also carry Featured Group and Featured Hole coverage all four days. The exhaustive coverage for the weekend will be split between ESPN+, ESPN and CBS.

Higgs had a great end to the last PGA Tour season, with a couple of respectable performances in the FedEx Cup Play-Off events and he will arrive at Silverado full of confidence.
A T16 finish at the Northern Trust was sandwiched between impressive performances at the Wyndham and the BMW Championships, and despite a run of for missed cuts prior to those events he is reaching a part of the calendar where he tends to play well.
A runner-up finish at this event last season suggests he has a great chance of challenging, and when you consider that he ranks 3rd for SG: Around-the-green and 15th for SG: Putting in the last 30 days he really does look to be overpriced.

Its only been nine months since Collin Morikawas breakthrough triumph at the Covid-19-postponed 2020 PGA Championship, but its time once again to crown a new champion.
