Not All Xbox Controllers Are Supported
With the release of the Xbox Series X and S consoles in November of 2020, Microsoft has released a new version of its wireless controller. Dubbed the new Xbox Wireless Controller, it has a slightly different shape and texture to the previous Xbox One controller and includes a new Share button for screenshots and video recording.
As of January 2021, Microsoft has not yet updated the controller to work with Apple devices. This includes the iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV, all of which share the same operating system core .
Microsoft plans to add support in the future, and this will likely require the firmware on the controller itself to be updated, either via an Xbox Series X or S console or a Windows 10 PC. You can find out more information about compatibility direct from Microsoft on its Xbox Support website.
As of January 2021, only the following Xbox-branded controllers are compatible with Apple TV:
- Xbox Wireless Controller with Bluetooth
- Xbox Elite Wireless Controller
- Xbox Adaptive Controller
Dont forget that you can use other Bluetooth controllers too, including Sonys DualShock 4 and Nintendos Switch Pro controller.

Apple Arcade is Apples video game subscription service. However, its less like a Netflix for AAA console titles and more like a subscription service for casual video gamers those of us who like to play games on our smartphones.
However, Apple Arcade isnt only available for the iPhone. Apple Arcade also works on Apple TV, iPad, Mac, and iPod touch. In other words, one Apple Arcade subscription lets you play Apple Arcade games on all compatible Apple devices that you own.
Right now Apple Arcade has a little over 200 games, with Apple adding more each week. These games are exclusive to Apple Arcade for the most part. That is, most Apple Arcade games are not available to download or buy separately from Apple Arcade.
This means that if you love a game on Apple Arcade, you need to keep paying for the Apple Arcade subscription if you want to keep playing the game. You cannot just buy the game itself in most cases.

Control Your Television With The Apple TV Remote
The Volume buttons on the Apple TV remote dont do anything out of the box. Theyre meant to control the volume of your TV so that you dont have to use a separate remote, but you have to set that up.
Go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Volume Control, and then use the options there to set it up. We have a great guide that takes you through the whole process.

Siri Remote Great For Some Games
The Siri Remote is an excellent game controller for certain games. With its accelerometer, it excels at racing games. Simply tilt the Siri Remote, just like a steering wheel, to control the vehicle. Its responsive, intuitive and loads of fun.
Unfortunately, the Siri Remote is not appropriate for all games. Although you can play most games with the Siri Remote, some games prove challenging to control. For example, a complicated first person shooter is difficult to play with the Siri Remote. This isnt a problem, as Apple TV supports third-party game controllers.

How To Fix Ps And Xbox Controller Pairing Issues With 2021 Apple TV
If you are experiencing issues with connecting, pairing or using a PlayStation and/or Xbox controller on your 2021 Apple TV, then you can find some possible fixes below:
1. First off, we recommend checking to see if your controller still have any battery life.
2. You should also check to see if your gamepad and 2021 Apple TV have been updated to the latest firmware.
3. Next, you can try moving your controller closer to your Apple TV.
4. You should also make sure that there arent any physical obstructions that may be interfering with the Bluetooth signals.

That said, how effective that strategy has been remains a mystery: Apple has never told us how many subscribers Apple Arcade has, and it lumps the revenue together with other services in its quarterly earnings.
Admittedly, PS5 and Xbox Series X controller support likely wont do much to get gamers to flock to the service, but its a kind gesture to the gaming community that could potentially see the value in Apples service.

Unfortunately there are quite a few things we dont really like about the Siri Remote, and these features can be seen to hold back the Apple TV experience. Probably top of the list is the fact that entering passwords and search terms using the trackpad and the onscreen keyboard is painfully frustrating.
Entering a password also highlights another issue with the Siri Remote: swiping on the trackpad can be a little tiring on the finger, although you can use Siri to spell out your password if nobody else is around.
Its not all bad, however, for example you might be thinking that the Siri Remote has a lot of wasted space, the track pad could have been bigger if the buttons were further down, but this design allows the remote to sit comfortably in your hand.
Youll also be glad that the main controls are central if you are holding the remote horizontally for gaming.

Apple Begins Selling Ps5 Dualsense Controller After Compatibility With iPhone iPad Apple TV And Mac Added
Apple recently started selling the white PS5 DualSense wireless game controller through its online store, with pricing consistent with Sony at $69.95. Orders placed today are estimated to be delivered next week in the United States.
iOS 14.5, iPadOS 14.5, tvOS 14.5, and macOS 11.3 software updates released last month added support for PS5 and Xbox Series X controllers on the iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Mac, respectively. The controllers can be used with any controller-supported games, including those on Apple Arcade or streamed through the PS Remote Play app.
Sony recently announced new Cosmic Red and Midnight Black color options for the PS5 DualSense controller, but Apple is not offering these colors at this time.
Apple continues to sell other “Made for iPhone” game controllers like the SteelSeries Nimbus+.

Change What The Home Button Does
The Home button on the Apple TV remote was strictly meant as a true Home button, just like that on the iPhone or iPad. However, with the addition of the TV app, users have been able to map the Home button as an actual Home button or as shortcut to the TV app.
Head to Settings > Remotes and Devices, and then select the Home Button option to change what the Home button does.
Getting Steam Link Up And Running
Now that youve successfully connected your controller, proceed to the Apple TVs App Store to install the Steam Link app. Before opening the app, ensure that both the host PC and Apple TV are on the same network.
The app may prompt you to connect a controller. Since weve already completed this step, you can skip it.
Next, the app will automatically try to look for computers on your network.
After a few seconds, your PC should show up. If not, ensure that Steam is open and hit Rescan. If the auto-detection continues to fail, you can also connect manually by clicking on Other Computer.
Otherwise, select your host PC from the list to continue. The screen will then display a four-digit PIN that you need to enter on your computer. This is to prevent unauthorized people from connecting to your machine.
A pop-up should appear simultaneously on your PC. Enter the PIN to complete the pairing process.
Next, the app will run a series of tests to determine the quality and speed of your network. Depending on these two factors, Steam Link will automatically set a resolution and frame rate for the game stream. However, you can manually change this later, depending on your preference.
With the initial setup out of the way, all thats left to do is play some games. Click on the Start Playing button to start the stream.

Are There Any Limitations
We don’t know yet. Presumably, Apple will support the new controllers the same way it did MFi controllers, in that you’re able to use them to do nearly everything on the Apple TV. For example, you can use a SteelSeries Nimbus controller to turn on the Apple TV, move through apps, select TV shows, and control playback.
Another aspect that’s unclear is whether or not features such as rumble and headphone-out will work when the controllers are paired to an Apple TV, iPhone or iPad.
Sony claims the DualShock 4 has improved ergonomics, and it definitely feels different in your hand.
Can You Pair A Ps3 Controller To Apple TV
When looking for a controller that you have around the house to use with your Apple TV, you may be wondering about the PS3 controller. Obviously these controllers are wireless, but will they work with the Apple TV?
Not every bluetooth controller works with the Apple TV. This is proven as the Switch controller does not work.
You can pair a PS3 controller to Apple TV. It is paired the same way you would pair any controller to the TV which makes it easy to do yourself.
Just because you can pair a PS3 controller to an Apple TV does not mean that everyone knows how to do it. It can be done very quickly though if you follow the steps below.

If you are still experiencing problems with connecting and/or using your PlayStation and/or Xbox controllers with your 2021 Apple TV, you can try unpairing the controller and then pairing it back again.
In order to unpair the controller, you need to do the following:
1. On your 2021 Apple TV, go to Settings.
2. Next, you should select Remotes and Devices.
3. Afterwards, select Bluetooth.
4. Select the controller you want to unpair from your 2021 Apple TV.
5. Select Unpair Device.
