Big Sky will have its season 2 premiere date on Thursday, Sept. 30, in the 10 p.m. time slot. It is part of ABCs Thursday night lineup that includes its two biggest shows, Greys Anatomy and Station 19.

In A Good Day to Die, which aired on December 16, kidnapping victims Danielle , Grace , and Jerrie are still being held captive by trucker Ronald Pergman and state trooper Rick Legarski .
But local law enforcement is on the case, as are private eyes Cassie Dewell and Jenny Hoyt , who are already suspicious of Rick. So much so that theyve already put a tracker on his vehicle.
After tracking Rick to a barn, Cassie and Jenny get their hands on a blueprint of the property and realize the barn has underground space where the victims could be held. They head to the scene and see Ricks Montana Highway Patrol SUV parked outside.
But when they raid the barn, they find Rick eating a sandwich. Thats not a criminal offense, of course, and the kidnapping victims are nowhere to be found: Ronald has already moved them.

Sheriff Tubb gets reprimanded by Ricks boss, and hes ready to arrest both Cassie and Jenny for criminal stalking i.e., planting a tracking device on Ricks vehicle but Jenny takes the fall and ends up in handcuffs.
After Ronald locks up the victims in the basement of the All In bar, Danielle mocks him, saying she probably represents all of the pretty girls who couldnt even be bothered to look at you, and if they did, theyd just laugh, call you a freak.

The Abc Series Is Back For A Second Season And Heres What To Expect From The Premiere
Fans cant wait to see the continuation of the first season with ABCs Big Sky Season 2. The shows premise initially revolved around two missing sisters in Montana who were abducted by a truck driver. Private detectives Cassie Dewell, played by Kylie Bunbury, and Cody Hoyt, played by Ryan Phillippe, attempt to solve the case, and they loop in Codys estranged wife, Jenny Hoyt, played by Katheryn Winnick. As the detectives continue to investigate the case, they discover more women could be in danger.
So, what can fans expect out of the premiere? According to Parade, the premiere begins right where the Big Sky Season 1 finale leaves off. Ronald and Scarlet are on the run despite Jenny and Cassie initially getting Ronald into custody for a brief time. Additionally, Jenny took a gunshot wound to the chest and fans are eager to hear if she survives to see season 2.
Cassie almost gets strangled to death by Ronald and we see her driving away in a car with the machine gun, showrunner Elwood Reid tells TV Insider. We dont know what happens after that. Jenny was shot. Anything can happen on this show, and I do truly mean that.

ABC has released its schedule for the fall 2021-2022 season, pushing Big Sky to Thursday and introducing a comedy block mid-week. After The Bachelorette was delayed by the pandemic, it will return to the successful Tuesday 8 p.m. slot it retained last fall. And after a breakthrough freshman season, Big Sky has landed a prime Thursday slot, replacing the canceled Rebel and following the networks hit Greys Anatomy.
A handful of popular ABC shows are also scheduled to return, including Dancing with the Stars, The Good Doctor, Greys Anatomy, Shark Tank, and Americas Funniest Home Videos. Along with Rebel, Mixed-ish and For Life have been canceled and will not return this season. Kenya Barriss Black-ish is also set to leave the network after this year, after debuting its eighth and final season.
Wednesday evenings will be dedicated to comedies, pairing the broadcasters new Wonder Years reboot with ABC hit The Goldbergs in the 8-9 p.m. block. Other Wednesday comedies include Home Economics and The Conners, with Black-ish notably missing from the slate. Black-ishs final season will debut midseason.
ABC will introduce two new drama programs, Queens and Women of the Movement. The network has also announced three new comedy series, including The Wonder Years, Abbott Elementary, and Maggie.

ABC announced Thursday that Season 2 of the crime drama series will premiere Sept. 30 at 10 p.m. EDT.

Big Sky is based on The Highway book series by C.J. Box. The TV show is created by David E. Kelley and stars Katheryn Winnick, Kylie Bunbury and Brian Geraghty.
Season 1 followed Cassie Dewell , a private detective, and Jenny Hoyt , an ex-cop and the estranged wife of Cassie’s partner, Cody Hoyt , as they investigated Ronald, a trucker involved in several kidnappings.
ABC renewed the series in May ahead of the show’s Season 1 finale.
Elwood Reid will replace Kelley as showrunner in Season 2. Kelley will remain as executive producer and will still be involved creatively.
Big Sky premiered on ABC in November. The show was the network’s number one series in total viewers and among adults 18-49 in the fall.

The Big Sky Season 2 Plot
Big Sky is based on the Hoyt/Dewell book series written by C.J. Box. The first half of Season 1 covered the events of The Highway, which was released in 2013. The second half of the season explored the Kleinsasser storyline from The Bitterroots, released in 2019. That leaves three novels that Season 2 could explore. Back of Beyond from 2011 focuses on Cody Hoytâs story, which would be hard for the show to incorporate since he died in the first episode. Badlands follows Cassie as she travels to North Dakota, where a young kid happens upon a big crime. But 2017âs Paradise Valley will likely be the easiest to adapt, because it continues to follow Ronaldâs story â the big focus in Season 1.

Kylie Bunbury signed on to play the lead character, Cassie Dewell, the character the C.J. Box book series was based around.
Cassie Dewell is an ex-rodeo rider turned private detective. Cassie is the junior partner of Cody Hoyt at their firm, Hoyt and Dewell, who is eager to get involved in the case of the missing girls.
Ryan Phillippe has signed on as one of the top stars an ex-cop turned private investigator named Cody Hoyt.
Hoyt is a well-meaning ex-cop turned private investigator working at his Helena, Montana, firm. Married to but separated from fellow ex-cop, Jenny Hoyt, his life becomes complicated when hes asked to help find his sons missing girlfriend.
Katheryn Winnick signed on for the role of Jenny Hoyt, the ex0wife of Cody Hoyt. She is also an ex-cop who teams up with Cassie Dewell to help stop the killer.
In February, John Carroll Lynch joined the cast of Big Sky as Rick Legarski. His character is described as a grizzled good-ol-boy Montana state trooper who outwardly seems dutiful and prideful in his police work as well as to the vast community he protects. Yet, there is more to this misunderstood man than meets the eye.
In March, Brian Geraghty joined the cast as Ronald Pergman, a blue-collar long-haul trucker with a disturbing dark side who becomes the subject of an investigation.
Jade Pettyjohn signed on to play Grace Sullivan is a tough girl with wisdom beyond her years, who is kidnapped alongside her older sister Danielle, but not without a fight.

So, when will Big Sky Season 2 air? Parade reports the second season of the show premieres Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021, at 10 p.m. EST. While the series used to take a different time slot, it now follows the Greys Anatomy Season 18 premiere.
As stated before, the new season will jump right back in where the previous season finale left off. Big Sky Season 2 Episode 1 is titled Wakey Wakey, and it has the following synopsis: After Ronalds escape, Cassie distracts herself with work Jenny, recovering from her near-death experience, decides to take Sheriff Tubb up on his offer for her to rejoin the force Ronald is wrapped up in something he cant get out of.

Brace For Another ‘big Surprise’ As ‘big Sky’ Heads For A Major Payoff
Later, Ronalds mother, Helen , accuses him of being involved in the kidnappings, calling him a sexual pervert with prurient urges. He starts choking her, but eventually loosens his grip. As she recovers, he tells her that Rick, his business associate, is the one behind the kidnappings.
Elsewhere, Cassie questions Ricks wife, Merilee who is very much alive, despite Ricks murderous fantasy at the start of the episode. Merilee defends her husband and tells Cassie that Rick a creature of habit.
With that observation in mind, Cassie heads to the All In bar alone knowing its a favorite haunt of his. And sure enough, she finds Rick at the bottom of the basement stairs, his kidnapping victims just out of sight. She hears their screams, though, and after Rick draws his gun and taunts her, Cassie shoots him in the head. My, my, my, he says before collapsing.
Its a moment of parallelism: The series premiere ended with Rick shooting Cody in the head. But have we seen the last of the nefarious state trooper? Well find out whether or not Rick is dead, actor John Carroll Lynch told TV Insider. Certainly, in the circumstances, one would think so.
And as for the next 11 episodes? Lets just say Cassie and Jenny will keep on the trails of the bad guysboth new and established, executive producer Ross Fineman said.

The Big Sky Season 2 Cast
Presumably both Cassie Dewell and Jenny Hoyt will return â unless they meet the same fate as Ryan Phillippeâs Cody and die in the Season 1 finale. If Ronald and his new girlfriend Scarlet manage to dodge law enforcement, they could also return in Season 2. And if thatâs the case, Jerrie and Mark will probably stick around to help hunt them down. But the Kleinsasser storyline seems to be wrapped up with characters like John Wayne and Rand dying in Episode 15.

According to the Big Sky IMDb page, there are 16 episodes in Season 1. Weve already seen five of them since the series November premiere on ABC, so there are 11 episodes left in the first season of Big Sky. The series was originally set to include only 10 episodes in Season 1, but ABC added six episodes to Big Sky earlier this month. After seven days of viewing across linear and digital platforms, the show secured 10.8 million viewers and a 2.5 rating among adults 18-49, becoming the networks highest-rated debut since The Rookie in October 2018, Deadline reports.
