Does My Warranty Cover A Broken TV Screen

If your TV screen has an imperfection, discoloration, lines, streaks, spots, etc., then there is a good chance that your warranty will cover it . Most TV warranties are in place for the first year, and they cover these types of manufacturer defects.

And the even better news here is that the majority of issues youre likely to encounter with your TV will happen within the first year .

However, if your screen has an actual break or crack, youre most likely out of luck. Even if it happens within the first year of ownership.

Thats becauseTV warranties have a section that identifies what manufacturers will NOT cover, which more likely than not includes the following:

  • cosmetic damage
  • acts of God
  • customer misuse, modifications or adjustments
  • installation, set-up, or repairs attempted by anyone other than by a VIZIO authorized service center

I know this isnt what you wanted to hear, but if your TV is broken or cracked, youre probably stuck buying a new TV.

Dont even bother calling up a TV repair person. 99% of them wont even look at your TV if its broken because they know its not worth their time.

Why Donate Or Recycle Electronics

Check out our Secret Life of a Smart Phone infographic.

Our Certified Electronics Recyclers page explains what it means to be a certified recycler.

Electronic products are made from valuable resources and materials, including metals, plastics, and glass, all of which require energy to mine and manufacture. Donating or recycling consumer electronics conserves our natural resources and avoids air and water pollution, as well as greenhouse gas emissions that are caused by manufacturing virgin materials.

For example:

  • Recycling one million laptops saves the energy equivalent to the electricity used by more than 3,500 US homes in a year.
  • For every million cell phones we recycle, 35 thousand pounds of copper, 772 pounds of silver, 75 pounds of gold and 33 pounds of palladium can be recovered.

What Happens To My Television When I Recycle It

When televisions are collected for recycling, they are first inspected to see if they have any working components that can be reused. To be recycled, the televisions are then broken down into their many different components.

  • Circuit boards are shredded down to a fine powder and separated into plastics and precious metals. This material can be reformed into a range of products.
  • Plastic casings are shredded and melted down for use in new products.
  • Scrap metals are typically melted down to form new metal-based components.

Cathode ray tube glass contains a high concentration of lead. This means it can’t go back into the normal glass recovery process like glass bottles. CRT glass is typically crushed and cleaned. Some CRT glass is used in manufacturing new television and computer monitors, but the move to LCD and plasma televisions means that new technologies and processes are being found to reuse this material.
