  • On your iPhone or iPad, start a FaceTime call.
  • Swipe up from the bottom edge of the FaceTime call, then open a video streaming app that supports SharePlay.

  • Playback controls are shared by everyone watching, so anyone can play, pause, rewind, or fast forward. Changing settings like closed captioning and volume will affect your device only.

How To Use Zoom Or Facetime With An Apple TV

Speaking for myself and seemingly everyone I know, we are all on Zoom, FaceTime, Teams, Hangouts, Meet, Webex, or some other videoconferencing tool all the time, whether for paid work, volunteering and nonprofit involvement, the PTA, or socializing and family conversation.

Unless youve got an iMac and its set up in the right place, you might find yourself squinting to see everyone on screenor leaning in or balancing a laptop on your lap. Its distracting for you and anyone with whom youre conversing.

Theres a better way, if you have an Apple TV or a newer TV that supports video streaming over AirPlay 2: you can use AirPlay or AirPlay 2 to stream your Mac, iPhone, or iPads screen to the TV. If you purchase an HDMI adapter for a Mac or a mobile device, you can instead hardwire yourself into any TV with an spare HDMI port.

SharePlay video sharing over FaceTime has arrived on Hulu via an update issued Monday morning.

The streaming platform’s iOS and iPadOS app update on April 4, 2022 allows iPhone and iPad users to enjoy a synced-up watching experience with everyone in a FaceTime call.

“In this release, we are helping spread the Hulu love by introducing ,” the patch notes on the App Store reads. “With SharePlay, you can watch content from the Hulu streaming library in sync with friends and family over FaceTime.”

To use Hulu’s SharePlay features, all participants will need an active Hulu subscription. Pricing starts at $6.99 per month for the ad-supported tier, while the ad-free tier costs $12.99.

Introduced in iOS 15.1, SharePlay allows anyone in a FaceTime call to share content with all participants. Everyone will get their own feed, with the episode or title and precise playback synchronized and controllable by all so that everyone can be on the same page.

Anyone can rewind, fast-forward, reverse, and it will apply to every feed. SharePlay also automatically lowers the volume when it detects speech so friends and family can be heard during the content playback.

How To Stream Shows And Movies With Facetime

Having a watch party in FaceTime is simple and intuitive with SharePlay. When you stream movies or TV shows with a friend or significant other, content will sync across devices and allow both parties access to controls. And you’ll still see and hear each other in picture-in-picture as you watch. Streaming services that have already partnered with Apple for SharePlay include Hulu, HBO Max, TikTok and ESPN Plus.

In order to use SharePlay, both parties need to use FaceTime on an Apple device that supports iOS 15.1, iPadOS 15.1 or MacOS Monterey 12.1. Another cool feature of SharePlay is that you can cast to your Apple TV while maintaining the FaceTime call on your iPhone. That way you’re not stuck squinting at a tiny screen with your friend’s face blocking the show.

Here’s how to set up SharePlay in FaceTime:

    1. Start a FaceTime call.

    2. Open a streaming app while connected to the call and choose a show or movie.

    3. Press Play, and both parties can watch the same stream at once.

Make Or Receive Your Facetime Call

How to FaceTime on Apple TV [Only Working Method]

Now, you just need to place or receive a FaceTime call to or from a friend or family member. Either wait for someone to call you or make the call yourself by opening up the FaceTime app and selecting a contact to call. Once youre connected with someone, youll see their face not only on your mobile devices screen, but also on your television.

This gives the person on the other end a view of what your television sees, but the important thing is that your devices front-facing camera is pointed right at you.

If youre afraid that your device will fall over while propped up, you can use a more solid solution by getting an iPhone or iPad clamp mount. This gooseneck model for an iPhone can be clamped onto your TVs bezel or onto the TV stand. Then, you can just place your device into the mount and face it the same way that your television is facing.

I know this isnt the most ideal solution, and I wish it was a bit easier for people to use their televisions for FaceTiming. However, this is currently the best solution out there.

Make Facetime With An Apple TV Or A Smart TV

The process for making such a video call on television is straightforward. Obviously neither your Apple TV nor your TV have a camera and therefore you will not make the call natively and this is where the iPhone, iPad or Mac comes in. These really what they will do is share their screen with television, in such a way that what you see in these will be what you see on the big screen. Therefore you should bear in mind that the people who are watching you will be through the other device, so you have to try to focus well at all times even if you are watching TV.

To do the FaceTime through an iPhone or iPad you must follow these steps:

    • Open the Control Center.
    • Tap the Duplicate screen option .
    • Select the Apple TV or television with AirPlay 2 where you will play the video call.
    • Open FaceTime .
    • Find and call the contact you want to make the video call with.

FaceTime is great for video chats with friends and family who live far away. But if you prefer to keep your hands free while relaxing on the couch, you can use FaceTime on your Apple TV instead of your iPhone or iPad. You may be thinking, But theres no FaceTime app on Apple TV! Thats true, but there is a workaround that you can use with AirPlay. Youll still need your iPhone or iPad to do this, but once youve set it up, you can sit back and relax without awkwardly holding your mobile device.

FaceTime is not about you having quality time in front of your boss. FaceTime is a video chat application developed by Apple. Apple developed it based on an open standard, which means that FaceTime can technically be used on multiple platforms, and that other manufacturers can use the FaceTime protocol.

In reality, however, FaceTime is only available to users of Apple products. More specifically, you can use FaceTime from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac computer, and you also need to contact someone with one of those devices.

Apple Working On Homepod With Facetime And Apple TV

    19 April 2022 0

Apple is reported to be working on a new HomePod model that will be more than a traditional smart speaker. The report is coming from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg in his weekly newsletter Power On’s latest edition. He claims that the new HomePod model will arrive with a FaceTime camera and Apple TV support.

This new HomePod model will essentially make it a single device with three different capabilities. It will continue to be a smart home speaker similar to the original HomePod and HomePod Mini but will gain two additional functionalities. FaceTime camera will make it useful for attending video calls directly from the kitchen or your drawing-room.

The Apple TV support will add streaming and gaming capabilities to the device. This will make it the complete entertainment hub for the family. It is expected to boot the tvOS operating system out of the box. It is important to note that it will not have a display for you to stream content on the device itself.

It will simply be an alternative to the Apple TV box that connects to your TV. It will essentially help users save money by eliminating the need for spending money on two different devices. It is currently unknown when we can expect the new HomePod to get official in the market. It is also important to note that all these expected features are rumors and things can always change by the time it goes into the mass production.

Sorry Apple TV Facetime Needs An Xbox To Work On The Big Screen

How to FaceTime Using Apple TV

Alongside the release of iOS 15 and macOS Monterey last year, Apple also expanded FaceTime to support joining FaceTime calls from a web browser. This change enabled support for FaceTime calls on Windows and Android devices for the first time. And as a Reddit user now points out, this also extends to Microsoft Edge running on an Xbox Series S.

Reddit user JavonTEvans posted this discovery over the weekend, explaining that he was successfully able to join a FaceTime call from an email link in the Microsoft Edge browser on his Xbox Series S. In this setup, a Logitech C930 serves as the webcam and is connected directly to the Xbox itself.

Of course, its important to keep in mind that an Apple product is still required at some point in the process here. A FaceTime link can only be created using the FaceTime app on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. What this experiment shows, however, is that the FaceTime link can then be opened on an Xbox with a webcam connected and Microsoft Edge running .

    Automatic Prominence In Group Facetime

Apple in iOS 13.5 added a feature for Group FaceTime that lets you toggle off Automatic Prominence, aka the feature that makes people’s tiles change size depending on who happens to be speaking.

With Automatic Prominence turned off, people’s tiles won’t get bigger when they speak, and will instead be displayed in a grid view with equal sizes. There’s also an option to enable Automatic Prominence when someone who uses sign language is detected so you can see what’s being signed.

You Can Join Facetime Calls On An Xbox But Not An Apple TV

A Redditor has highlighted that it is possible to join FaceTime calls from their TV using an Xbox, a feature that is not possible on the Apple TV.

In a post on Reddit, user u/JavonTEvans explained how they are able to make FaceTime calls on their TV using an Xbox. The simple setup involves using a Logitech C930 webcam connected to an Xbox Series S. To join a FaceTime call, they simply open Microsoft Edge on the Xbox, navigate to their email provider, and open an email with a FaceTime link.

    u/JavonTEvans’s FaceTime TV setup

The setup is theoretically possible from any device with Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge installed thanks to FaceTime links. Apple introduced FaceTime links with iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and macOS Monterey last year, providing a way for users of non-Apple devices such as Android smartphones and Windows PCs to join FaceTime calls easily, with no need for a dedicated app.

Since Apple TVs do not have a FaceTime app, additional ports to connect a camera, or a browser to open FaceTime links, Apple’s own TV device is completely unable to make FaceTime calls. The only option available to Apple TV users is to AirPlay a FaceTime call from another device, but the video feed will still be streamed from the host device’s camera.

    Chromecast And Google Meet

While using Chrome on a laptop or desktop computer, you can mirror Google Meet calls on Chromecast streaming devices, Vizio SmartCast TVs, and Android TV devices.

During any meeting, just tap the vertical three-dots menu button at the bottom of the screen. As long as your Chromecast is on the same Wi-Fi network, youll see a Cast this meeting button at the top of this menu. Click the button and select your Chromecast device to begin mirroring the conference video onto your TV.

Youll still need to use your computers camera and microphone, of course, and the meetings audio will play through the computer rather than the TV. Still, mirroring can be helpful for sharing a video call with an actual roomful of people.

Apple TV Homepod Combo Could Run Apples Homeos

How to FaceTime on Your Apple TV

Reports of an Apple entertainment/communication device for the living room have been around for a while, and the project is still in active development.

I absolutely do think a new HomePod is coming specifically, a device that combines a HomePod, Apple TV and FaceTime camera, wrote Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter. The combination product will probably be at the center of Apples approach.

Rather than making FaceTime calls with an iPhone, iPad or Mac, someone could make them from this device, and see the other person on their TV. And it would be an Apple TV, so it could access films and series from a variety of streaming services. And itll be a smart speaker, too.

This device apparently will run homeOS, a mystery operating system that gets occasional mentions in job listings.

At this point, it is not expected to reach customers until 2023.

    Using Facetime Over Lte/5g

On devices with an LTE connection like an iPhone or iPad , FaceTime works over cellular as well.

Most cellular phone plans no longer have limited minutes, but FaceTime Audio and the standard FaceTime video do not use up cell phone minutes. It’s worth noting that FaceTime does eat up data, and how much data it uses will vary by device, connection quality, and other factors.

You can see how much data you’ve used in a FaceTime call by opening up the FaceTime app and tapping on the “i” next to a person in your recent call list. More detailed instructions are below:
