How To Monetize Your Roku Channel
Roku offers many monetization methods but the choice depends on which development method you use. Monetization features are available from the Developer Dashboard.
Advertising on your Roku channel can follow one of the two models: Inventory Split or Revenue Share.
Inventory split involves displaying a combination of your and Rokus ad inventory on the channel. Split method is the default model for Direct Publishers, where the publishers are responsible for sourcing and configuring 70% of the ads on their channels and reap 100% of the ad revenue. This model gives you more control, as you can manage your ads and pick those that are the most relevant to your target audience.
Roku, on the other hand, manages the remaining 30% of ads, and gets 100% of the profits earned.
In the Revenue Share model, Roku manages 100% of your channels. This saves you a lot of work, but at the same time you only get 60% of the net revenue. For what its worth, Roku promises to serve ads that maximize your monetary returns but are also relevant to the users which is also their best interest to retain viewers.
This model is an excellent opportunity for personal and small businesses who, instead of monetization, would rather focus on creating great content.
Roku takes 30% of whatever money you make this way, which is the only downside of the method.

Speed Makes A Difference
Smart TVs drop the ball on speed in two main ways.
The first is on the hardware side.
The majority of smart TVs have fairly weak processors built into them that have a hard time keeping up with the demands of streaming apps like Netflix.
Ive personally experienced a ton of lag time when trying to use streaming apps through the smart TV interface.
The second speed constraint comes from the software side.
Streaming apps focus their time and energy developing and building their app to be compatible with the platforms that reach the greatest number of consumers. Right now there are really four major players: Roku, Apple, Amazon and Google.
So if youre not one of those four companies, odds are the app built for your product didnt get built with the same level of care and attention to detail.
Thats why its slow and buggy and occasionally just outright freezes on you.

How To Set Up Your Roku Player And Connect It To A TV
With a Roku device, you can watch content from YouTube, Apple TV, Hulu, and more than 40,000 other paid and free channels. But before you can start watching all that content, youre going to have to set up your Roku device first. Heres everything you need to know about how to set up any Roku streaming device.
Streaming From Your Computer
Another feature I like is the ability to watch video on my computers hard drive on my TV. To do that, I had to add a channel called Plex and install the Plex server software on my computer. Once I did that and got them synced up , I could watch almost all of the video that I had on my computers hard drive much more so than with my Apple TV, which has severe limitations to what file types it will play. So, Roku beats Apple TV here. If you have lots of video files on your computer that you want to watch on your TV, get a Roku.
Roku can mirror the screen of Android devices, but it cant natively mirror Apple iOS devices. More info on mirroring to Roku here.
Several readers have mentioned a service called PlayOn, which allows you to stream from your computer to your Roku. The premium version gives you access to more channels, mostly the network websites. Cost is currently about $35 for a lifetime license.

Change The Source On Your TV
This should be pretty obvious, even if this is the first time youve used a smart TV. Even before smart TVs came along, many regular TVs gave you the option of changing the source of the A/V input.
Because of this you could always quickly switch between your cable TV, PS console, Xbox, PC stream, DVR, and other sources. Therefore, in order to go back to regular TV, you can always just use your remote to switch the source from your USB Roku player back to your regular cable input.
Why Not Roku TV
The most obvious answer to this question is nobody said that you shouldnt buy a Roku TV. Their newest Hisense release has proved a fantastic smart TV option, capable of doing everything that any other Roku player can. That being said, Roku TVs arent really ideal if you want to use them for anything other than, well, Roku.
Therefore, if you have a new Samsung smart TV, youre probably best off getting a Roku player instead of a Hisense TV. Additionally, Roku TVs arent as powerful as Roku players are. This is why some Roku TV owners actually buy Roku sticks or players and set their device up so that they can access Roku, through a Roku player, on a Roku TV. It may sound ridiculous, but thats how it is.
Finally, if you are reading this, chances are that you already own a great Samsung smart TV and that youve already bought your Roku streaming device.

Still No Audio Swap Your Cables
Its fairly rare, but on occasion, your HDMI, optical, or component cables can be faulty. If none of the steps so far have helped, try switching out your cable with another set. This can be frustrating if you dont have an extra set handy, but the good news is that all three types are inexpensive and you can find them at your local retailer or online.
