Before we get started, it should be mentioned that mirroring your screen might not be the best method to share content on a TV. Many video and photo apps allow you to cast to a Chromecast-enabled device. This will be a much nicer experience than mirroring your screen.
For all of those other situations, mirroring your screen is a handy trick to know. There are a few things that youll need:
- An Android phone or tablet running Android 5.0 or later.
Well start with the easiest method, which isnt available on all devices. On your Android phone or tablet, swipe down from the top of the screen once and then a second time to expand the Quick Settings toggles.
Find the toggle labeled Screen Cast and tap it.
This will bring up a list of devices that you can mirror your screen to. Select the one that you want.
You will now see your screen on the receiving device.
At the bottom of the app, tap Cast My Screen.

Is Screen Mirroring Different From Casting Your Android Screen To The TV
Screen mirroring, just like its name, mirrors everything you do on your phone to a TV. Casting, on the other hand, allows you to view content on another device without sharing the display on your smartphone.
Although screen mirroring and Android casting differ slightly in their procedures, both of them let you view content from your smartphone on the TV.
So, without further ado, lets explore the different methods to cast your Android to the TV.
How To Cast To Your Fire TV Stick From An iPhone Or iPad
Because the Fire TV Stick doesnt natively support screen mirroring for iOS, youll need to download a third-party app to work around. You can find two options from the Fire TV Appstore: Screen Mirroring and AirScreen. For this example, well be using Airscreen.
First, navigate to the Appstore from your Fire TV home screen and search for Airscreen. Then install the app.
When you open Airscreen for the first time, it will give you a QR code to scan with your iPhone or iPad. Once scanned, open the link. From there, select what type of content you want to cast to your TV, and youre all set.
If you need to cast again, you can swipe down on the screen to open the Control Center and select Screen Mirroring on your iPhone or iPad. Lastly, tap on AS-AFTMM to mirror your iOS screen to your Fire TV Stick.

Search for your TV from the list of options available and click on it once you find your TV name on the screen and enjoy the video in the Big Box.
This is one of the easiest procedures for casting your Device to TV without the help of Chromecast but check on the privacy terms before using the same.

It’s easy to spot when you can cast something because you’ll see a specific icon.
You’ll usually see the icon on video apps such as YouTube and Netflix. If you select the icon, it will then bring up a list of devices that content can be cast to. Simply select your TV and the image will be displayed.
If you can’t see your chosen video on the TV, then try returning to your TV’s home menu and cast again.

How To Cast Android To A TV Using Chromecast
The most common method of casting Android to a TV is with Chromecast. A Chromecast is an inexpensive device that serves as a “bridge” between your Android phone and TV.
There are also TVs that have the Chromecast system built-in. This allows casting the same selection of apps directly to those TVs without having to connect an external Chromecast.
With Chromecast, your TV can stand in for phone’s display, allowing you to watch streaming apps which run on your Android directly on your TV. To cast, your Android phone and any Chromecast devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi network.
Because a Chromecast stick can plug into any TV with an HDMI input, the TV does not have to be a “smart” TV to play screen-casted content.

Streaming Devices To Cast Android To TV
Media streaming devices have brought Android into the living room. You plug it into your TV and voila, go stream and watch all kinds of content.
These devices are excellent alternatives for those who dont own a smart TV. While Im listing ways in which you can cast your phone display without Chromecast, there are other streaming devices for you to consider.
1. Roku Streaming Stick
Roku, which is the pioneer when it comes to streaming devices, offers an easy way for you to see your Android screen on a bigger screen. The stick itself has built-in screen mirroring options, so all you have to do is enable it.
- As always, connect both devices to the same wireless network first. Then, plug the Roku streaming stick on your TV.
- On the Home page, navigate to Settings > Systems > Mirroring. From here, go and choose your connection method.
- To enable casting on your Android device, follow the steps indicated in the Native Casting section above.
2. Amazon Fire Stick
Unfortunately, the 3rd generation Fire TV Stick 4K no longer supports native screen mirroring. If youre using any of the previous generations, though, youre still good.
- Again, before anything else, remember to connect your phone and TV to the same Wi-Fi network.
- To start casting, press and hold the Home button on the Fire Stick remote to enable the mirroring option.
- To do the same on your Android device, follow the steps listed in the Native Casting section above.
How To Connect Your iPhone Or iPad To Your TV
When youre trying to show off videos, photos, and other visual content from your iPhone or iPad, there are too many times when the small screen just wont do. Fortunately, you can connect those devices to your big-screen TV through several different methods.
You dont even need a fancy smart TV to do it. Well show you several easy methods for screen mirroring, ranging from using a basic HDMI adapter to sophisticated wireless streaming.
Mentioned in this article
Keep in mind that if your goal is to watch streaming services such as Apple TV+, Netflix, or Hulu on your television, mirroring your iPhone or iPad is neither necessary nor the most practical solution. Instead, you can buy a low-cost streaming media player such as a Roku Streaming Stick+ or Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K, plug them into your TV, and operate them with a proper remote control. Heres a link to our guide to the best streaming devices.
Still, mirroring can be useful if you want to replay videos youve recorded on the device, display your photo library, present a slideshow, communally browse social media, or show off your iOS gaming skills on the TV screen. Read on for instructions on how to do that.

Im Having Trouble Getting My Devices To Connect Whats Happening
If youre trying to mirror your device to another device and it wont connect, check your internet connection. More often than not, the problem occurs because youre connected to two different bands on the same network. Simply go into the WiFi settings on your device and ensure they are on the same band.
Of course, if youre using one of the HDMI cables weve mentioned above, check that all of your ports are working properly and the cable is fitted properly. Some devices may require you to turn on developer options before casting your screen so check with the manufacturer to verify if the image doesnt immediately appear.

Connect To The TV With Wireless Casting
If you dont want to fuss over any wires or cable, theres always the option to use casting.
Casting is the process of wirelessly streaming content from your phone or tablet, by connecting to the same WiFi network as your television. Smartphone apps like AllCast will be able to cast direct to the TV for you, though most modern Android phones and Windows devices will support the Miracast casting standard.
With Miracast, you simple head to your phones Display settings, check under Cast, and select Enable Wireless Display to check for nearby devices to cast to.
You can also use a streaming device like the or Roku Streaming Stick, which plug into your TVs HDMI port, and can be connected to wirelessly by devices running Android 4.4.2 and above.
