What Does Digital Media Offer That TV Advertising Does Not
Digital media offers much tighter targeting parameters than TV advertising. Companies are able to narrow down customers much more efficiently due to the algorithmic nature of online identity, and their ads may produce more sales as a result. TV advertising used to be more powerful as viewers were only capable of watching media through one device, but as cell phones, laptops, tablets, and smart TVs have become more prominent, traditional TV advertising is finding it hard to compete.

The Joy Of Commercial
To be fair, going commercial free is an extra fee. But, boy is it worth it. I didn’t realize how much it was worth until I was forced back into the traditional TV commercial milieu and had to endure commercials — often 20 minutes or more of every hour of TV watched.
Let’s look at the economics and I’ll come back to the benefits in a minute. My wife and I subscribe to Netflix, Paramount+, Disney+, Hulu, and HBOMax. We get Prime Video free as part of our Prime membership, so I’m not counting that in our video-on-demand budget.
If we were to subscribe to these services with commercials, our monthly cost would be $48.96. Keep in mind, we don’t have a cable TV bill. We only watch these streaming services. We actually pay ten bucks more each month, because Paramount+ costs an extra four dollars and Hulu costs an extra six dollars each month to go commercial-free.
That extra ten dollars is worth it. The shows are so much more pleasant to watch without the commercials. Plus, I can get a little more actual TV watching in what little available free time I have. Some weeks, I have so little free time, it seems ludicrous to just fritter it away watching ads I don’t want or need to see anyway.

Intended for social media, this short app demo video uses simple 2D animation to quickly showcase how the app works and finishes with a succinct summary of the app: Choose your interests. Meet like-minded people.
Dont Forget The Music
In addition to exciting visuals, the right music is also essential for an effective sizzle. As most sizzles dont have a voiceover or words, it will be up to your music to build the excitement. Your music should be fast-paced, playful, and something that the editor can use to cut to. If you use a slow song, youll have a slow video.

Schedule Your Ad Strategically
Placement of your commercial is also very important. It determines who will see it and how much you’ll pay for the airtime.
Having your commercial air at 3 am. will save you money, but it’s not money well spent if you’re not reaching anyone. The same holds true for the station you’re airing your ad on. You don’t want to schedule air time on ESPN with your local cable company if you’re advertising your maternity clothing store.
What You Need To Know Before Auditioning
First of all, keep in mind that TV commercials aim at selling products or services to viewers. Therefore, correct preparation before a commercial casting is crucial. Doing a little research into the product you will be promoting in the commercial can make or break your chances of being cast.
Commercial casting sessions are different from theater auditions. Hectic and fast-paced, commercial casting is usually much shorter, lasting only a couple of minutes or less. So, make sure to:
- arrive early, to reduce stress
- be as familiar with the copy as possible
- practice your articulation, diction and enunciation exercises
- know the words as well as possible
- prepare several different interpretations
- listen carefully when you are being directed
- be ready to improvise, if asked to
- show your energy
- have your headshot and resume on hand
- choose character-appropriate clothing
- have fun.

Tips For Creating An Effective TV Commercial
Represent Your Brand Clearly
Using both verbal and visual cues, your brands name, logo and perhaps even the product itself should be conveyed throughout the commercial. Dont be secretive and wait until the end of the ad to show your brands face. But do be tasteful about it.
Create a Storyline
The best commercials dont just sell a product or service they tell a story. Whether it is a heartfelt story, or a dose of humor or satire, create a storyline to which your audience can relate and connect.
Develop a Signature Character or Theme
Each of the example commercials listed above arent simply one-off ads. Instead, they are a series of ads that carry the same them or characters throughout. These characters or theme will fortify the audiences connection with your brand.
Keep it Simple
You only have 30 to 60 seconds to get your message across and form a connection with your audience. Keep the overall concept and storyline of your commercial simple.
Dont Cut Corners
Quality is an essential element of an effective TV ad. Quality doesnt necessarily mean you have to empty your pockets on the production of one ad. But do utilize a professional film production team to ensure the quality of your commercial.

What Should I Include On A Commercial Acting Rsum
First, always include your name, a working phone number, and either your or your agents email address. Any union affiliations should be written below your name. Dont include a personal address or your age or birthday. If casting personnel see exactly how old you are, we may unknowingly box you in and find it a little harder to see you as a characters age, if were reading you for a specific role, teacher and casting director Clifton Guterman told Backstage. Unfair, but true. Let your headshot and your appearance in the roomand, of course, your acting abilitysignal what age range you fit best.
Then, list out whatever credits youve acquired so far. No matter the time or size of the part, if youre starting out, list what youve got for now. As you advance in your career, you can cut some of these earlier credits. List the director and producer where applicable. Lack of information can raise suspicions. Merely saying that you played Jean Valjean in Les Misérables tells us frustratingly too little, Guterman said. Where? Your grandmas living room?
Heres an example of how to format credits on your résumé:
Also include your trainingespecially commercial classes. If someone is at least taking a commercial acting class, that should clearly be noted under training, Paradigm commercial agent Stacye Mayer says. Everyone has to start somewhere.

Keep It Short Really Short
Since you can only expect to hold the attention of a Facebook user for a few seconds, keep your videos short. One brand, for instance, saw a 271% increase in video completion rate after utilizing ads that were just six seconds long versus the brands prior 30-second long ads. The shorter your video ad is, the more likely a viewer will watch the entire thing.
My Theory Behind Running TV Ads
Online advertising is becoming expensive. Just look at , it costs more to run an ad now than it did a year ago.
- Google and YouTube went up by 108%
- had up to an 89% increase, while the average CPM was $11
- TikTok having a 92% increase and
- Snapchat with the lowest at a 64% increase
So why not try something different
In the ad agency world, people run ads for their clients, but no one really runs ads on TV for themselves .
So our team decided to take the plunge and give it a chance.
We also felt that it could provide an ROI because as an ad agency we see tons of data. And for many of our customers we are seeing TV ads from a cost to acquire a customer to be a bit more expensive than Facebook ads, and a bit less expensive than Google ads.
Plus, we thought it would bring credibility. Because even though we have 450 employees globally and we operate globally being 4 or so years old hurts. Mainly from the aspect of bigger brands work with bigger companies.
And even though we have large brands at our ad agency like Adobe or Western Union or Sofi and we have won dozens of marketing awards for our work, we are still small compared to agencies like WPP that generate roughly $12 billion a year in revenue.
Theres a saying in the business world, you dont get fired for hiring IBM. The same goes with hiring a big holding company brand like WPP, Dentsu, or Omnicom in the marketing world.

Reaches A Target Audience
With each year, television becomes better at reaching a client’s target audience. That used to be radio’s big advantage, with all the various radio formats allowing a client to make easy decisions on where to place an ad buy.
With more and more niche cable TV channels, television offers many of the same advantages. A garden supply center can buy commercial time through a local cable TV company so that ads appear on a home-and-garden cable channel. Buying cable TV advertising not only helps a company reach its target audience, but cable ad rates are usually much cheaper than those on broadcast TV stations.
But the audience on a cable TV channel is also much smaller. So while the rates are lower, a client may be reaching only a few thousand viewers with a commercial.
A broadcast TV station can offer a better opportunity to reach more people, although at a higher cost. However, there are options for TV stations, too. If clients want their ads to appear during a local 6:00 p.m. TV newscast but can’t afford the cost, you can steer them to the morning newscast instead. They still reach the desired news audience but at a much lower rate.
# 3 Separate The Subject
Position your subject a good distance from the background. This accomplishes multiple goals: it prevents the green background from accidentally spilling onto your subject, makes it easier to light, and prevents your key light from casting shadows or creating hot spots on your green screen. You should try to move your subjects as far as is feasible given your setup, but aim for at least 5-6 feet. It makes life easier both during production and in post.
Additionally, make sure the subject lighting matches the scene you hope to put them in if you are using the green screen to recreate a location. Otherwise, the lighting on the subject wont match the background, and it will come across quite obviously that the subject isnt actually there. Also, if you combine this with a shallow depth of field it can help ensure your green screen is nice and even in the background.
