Get To Know Your Home Screen
Every smart-TV platform has its own unique layout, so take a moment to get to know your TV’s home screen. LG and Samsung TVs have very similar home screens, each with a single row of apps that runs along the bottom of the screen. Sony’s Android TVs have several rows of apps, inputs and settings, and Roku TVs offer a tiled layout that’s more like that of a smartphone.
Whatever TV you have, you’ll want to familiarize yourself with four key details:
- How to find and select your installed apps.
- How to access different inputs.
- Where the app store is, for finding new apps and services.
- How to pull up the Settings menu.
Once you have a handle on your apps, inputs and settings, you will be able to use the TV’s several functions without getting lost in the various menus the set offers.
Begin The Set Up Process
The first step in the Samsung TV setup process is powering it on. Turn on the TV by pressing the power button on the remote. The first screen you see will ask you to press right on the remotes scroll wheel to start the process. If you prefer, you can do the set up process on your phone by downloading the SmartThings app.
Turning Off Closed Captions On A Samsung Smart TV
If you no longer need closed captions, you can turn them off in the same way as you turned them on.
You dont need to mess with caption settings as you have already done that and have turned them off anyway. If you have a different menu setup like the second example above, just repeat that but select off instead of on. The result should be the same.

Below are some tips on using Harmony with your Samsung Smart TV. Once you’ve added your TV to Harmony and setup is complete, we recommend setting up a Smart TV Activity.

We know youre excited to start watching your new Samsung TV. But before you can sit back and take in the vivid images on screen, you have to set up the Samsung smart TV.
Samsung uses the Tizen operating system and it needs to know a few things before it launches, such as how to connect to the Internet and what your Samsung account is. Dont worry it doesnt take long.

If you’re not seeing an app you wish to use on your Samsung Smart TV, it’s probably because the Smart Hub is set to a different region , so you need to change Smart Hub regions. The method is different based on what type of Samsung TV you have, but below we’re gonna outline how to do it.
Note: With all of these guides, you will be restoring your TV to factory settings, so if you are currently logged into any apps, you will be logged out as a result. Furthermore, you can not have apps from different regions installed at the same time.

Which Samsung TV Do You Have
Finding the right guide to help you with your TV starts with knowing what TV you have. Figuring out which model you actually have can be a little tricky, since TVs aren’t usually festooned with logos and model names, but there are a couple of simple ways to find the TV’s actual model number.

Look for the manufacturer label on the TV itself
Look for a label on the back or side of the TV. This will usually be an unobtrusive label located near the connector panel where you’ll find HDMI ports and other connections. In the labels fine print you should find the full model number for the TV, as well as the serial number for your individual unit, information about power requirements and FCC certifications, and even a phone number for customer support.
One handy tip, especially if you’re setting up a new TV, is to take a picture of this label for future reference.
Find the model information in the TV’s settings
You can also find model information in the TVs settings menu. On Samsung QLED TVs this is found by going to the support section under the settings menu, and looking for an option that reads “device information” or “contact Samsung”, depending on which model you own.
The TV model number should be listed in the information under this tab.
Follow The Prompts On The Screen
Once you reach this stage, youre in the home stretch. To complete the setup process, navigate to the Google Home screen. From there:
- Select the + symbol
- Tap Set up device
- Choose New Device
At this point, follow the prompts on the screen. Depending on what generation Chromecast you have, it may ask you to enter your Wi-Fi credentials, along with other relevant information.

Sign In Or Create A Samsung Account
Note: If you do not wish to create or sign into your Samsung account, select the arrow in the upper right-hand corner of the screen to skip this section.
A Samsung account is required to use certain services or apps on your TV. For example, if you want to rent or purchase movies or shows on your TV, you’ll need your Samsung account.
Sign in
To sign into your Samsung account manually, select Sign In, and then select the ID Field. Enter your Samsung account email address, and then select Next. Select the Password field, enter your Samsung account password, and then select Done. Finally, select Sign In and then select Done.
Create an account
No account, no problem. To create a Samsung account, select Create Account, and then select Yes. Next, select Agree to agree to the Samsung account Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.Select the ID field, enter your Email address, and then select Next. And then, select the Password field, enter a desired password, and then select Done. Select Next, and select the First Name field. Enter your first name an then select Next. Do the same thing for your last name.
From there, select the Date of Birth field, and use the directional pad on your Samsung Smart Remote to select your date of birth. Finally, select the checkbox, select Next and then select Done. If desired, you can create an account with a Facebook or PayPal account.
How Do I Setup A Vpn On My Samsung TV
Generally, Smart TVs does not support VPN service.
However, if you still want to use a VPN service for your TV, I would suggest you get a second router and configure our VPN service on it. This method would leave you with your existing network which would be your local ISP and then a second router that would route your traffic via the VPN network. You would presumably then connect your TV to the VPN network.
Note: Using a single router solution is not recommended. It can be done, but the problem is that if there are any problems or issues with it, you have lost your connection to the Internet. If you set up a VPN on a secondary router, then any issues with VPN setup will not impact your local internet connection.
