Sling TV Adds Abc To Their Broadcast Extra Add

Review: Air TV 2 From Sling TV – Watch ABC, CBS, FOX, & NBC With Sling TV

Sling TV for the first time is adding ABC to their over the top streaming service for cord cutters. Currently if you want ABC you need to add a $5 add-on package that also includes Univision and Uni Mas. You also need to live in one of the following areas Chicago, Fresno-Visalia, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Raleigh-Durham, and San Francisco.

Here is the official statement from Sling TV:

The latest addition to Sling TVs add-on pack selection, Broadcast Extra, includes live content from local ABC, Univision and UniMás channels. It is available for an additional $5 per month with a Best of Live TV subscription to customers residing in the following markets: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Houston, Raleigh-Durham and Fresno-Visalia. These markets represent more than half of the top 10 designated market areas and serve nearly 25 percent of the U.S. population.

Broadcast Extra is available across all Sling TV supported devices in these select designated markets.

Back in October Sling TVs CEO Roger Lynch said Over time, local is something we will offer. But to a certain extent they are not ready. He went on to say ABC cant do it, likely meaning the deal ABC had with their affiliates prevented them from working with a service like Sling TV.

Hopefully this is just the start of many more over-the-air stations, like NBC and Fox, being added to Sling TV.

Please follow us on and for more news, tips, and reviews.

Is Sling TV Good For Sports

Sling doesnt have ABC, CBS or FOX Sports regional networks, so many fans wont be able to watch their local MLB, NBA and NHL teams games on the service.

Casual fans can get by with Sling, but if youre a more avid sports viewer, youll probably want to upgrade to Hulu + Live TV or YouTube TV. Thats because Sling is missing ABC and CBS, two of the most important channels for sports fans. Without them, youll miss NFL games every Sunday , the NBA Finals and a number of college football games.

Outside of the MLB, Sling lacks at least one channel that airs live games from each of the five most popular sports leagues in the U.S. For most sports, youll have to pay $10/mo. for the Sports Extra pack to access league channels like NBA TV and MLB Network.

League
ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN 3, FOX ABC, ACC Network, Big Ten Network, CBS, Pac-12 Network, SEC Network

*Available in Sports Extra add-on for $10/mo.

Another problem for sports fans is that the key sports channels are split between Orange and Blue. Orange has ESPN and TNT, while Blue has FOX and NBC. If you want to catch most NFL games, for instance, youll need both, which costs $45 .

Sling Orange Vs Blue: What Is The Sling Blue Plan

Sling Blue costs $35 per month and gives you access to 47 live channels. However, Blue does not include every Orange channel by default theres no Disney and no ESPN, for starters. On the plus side, Sling Blue is a multi-stream option, which means you can access the service on up to 3 devices at once. Three different people could use the account simultaneously, or you could record three shows while youre away, or mix and match.

Sling Blue users also have the opportunity to watch NBC stations, including NBC, USA, Bravo and SyFy. Also, Fox News and MSNBC, which never agree on anything, are both only on Sling Blue, with neither on Orange.

If even these packages are too pricey, check out our Philo review to see if the $25 service has the channels you need.

Which Sling TV Local Channels Can You Stream

While Sling TV is one of the best ways to get popular national cable channels, the truth is its local channel selection for streaming is lacking. With Sling TV, youll only get NBC and Fox, and theyre only available with some plans in select markets.

In markets that dont have live Fox or NBC, youll have access to on-demand content from the channels.

Here are the markets that have FOX and NBC available live:

  • FOX: New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, Washington DC, Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland, Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Minneapolis, St. Paul, Gainesville, St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay, Orlando, Daytona, Melbourne
  • NBC: New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston, Washington DC, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Hartford, New Haven, Dallas, Fort Worth, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland, San Diego

Remember, if you dont live in one of the markets that get FOX or NBC live, youll have access to an on-demand version of the channel. However, youll want to be in the live market for watching NFL on Sling TV.

To access FOX or NBC streaming on Sling TV, youll need the Sling Blue package, which runs $35 per month and comes with 40+ channels.

Is Paramount On Youtube TV

Sling TV Adds ABC (for Some)

YouTube TV costs as much as fuboTV but carries fewer channels. The service only gives you access to 85+ channelsas opposed to fuboTVs 100+ offering.

However, a single subscription to the service gets you unlimited cloud DVR storage, YouTube Originals, local broadcasts, major sports networks like ESPN, ViacomCBS channels like Paramount Network and more.

Local stations depend on where you live, so it is best to check your areas lineup by inputting your home ZIP code on YouTube TVs website.

The service also allows you to purchase from a long list of premium channels, ranging from EPIX and STARZ to Cinemax and HBO Max.

Despite its high-quality features, the service only allows three simultaneous streams with no way of purchasing more. This might be bad news for those with multiple people in their household.

Everyone in your household can enjoy YouTube TV on Apple TV, Android TV, Roku, Fire TV mobile devices, web browsers and more.

YouTube TVs free trial regularly lasts seven days. However, throughout the year, the service bumps this up to fourteen days. You can cancel anytime since there are no additional fees or contracts.

Youtube TV Supported Devices

YouTube TV has also recently improved device support. Today, you can stream on your browser, Android/iOS device, or Android TV, as well as Chromecast. Other supported devices include Roku and Apple TV, as well as a few selected Samsung/LG Smart TVs. YouTube TV also introduced Amazon Fire TV support in late 2019.

Hulu Is Better Overall Sling TV Offers More Add

Cord cutters must consider which aspects of live TV streaming services are most important to them before making a decision. For most people, Hulu + Live TV is a better option than Sling TV because of its superior channel lineup, technical capabilities, and on-demand library. Although Sling TV beats Hulu on price and offers more channel add-ons, the costs of those extras add up quickly and could potentially eat away at Sling’s pricing advantage.

If you are determined to save as much money as possible, Slings Blue or Orange plans might be a better option, though you have to be careful to check that your plan of choice has all the channels you want to watch. Philo and Locast are other cheap live TV options. If money is less of an object, check out our comparison between Hulu and YouTube TV.

Sling TV User Interface

The My TV menu allows users to mark their favorite shows, so they appear in the Favorite ribbon. That means you will never have to search for the new episode of your favorite show again.

You can also add your most-watched channels to the My Channels Ribbon. This is a fantastic feature as you can pull up your most-watched networks in one click. There is also a Continue Watching ribbon, so you pick up where you left on a show you stopped watching.

The new interface also features a mini-guide that you can pull up while watching a program. You continue watching your show while scrolling through whats on other available channels at the foot of the screen.

Other features include On Now, which allows you to see live program options by genres like sports or comedy for easy navigation of live TV. There is also a series view that makes it easy to search for a specific episode of a series. You can see which episodes youve already watched, making it easy to find the next one you want to play.

Sling TV Channels Vs Hulu Live Channels

FREE Sling TV Streaming Service for Select Channels ...

When it comes to Sling TV’s key competitors, Hulu and its Live TV package is likely the most similar in terms of its offering of both on-demand TV shows and movies, as well as the option to tune into live broadcasting.

While Sling TV offers 50 channels when bundling together both its Blue and Orange plans, Hulu + Live TV brings you over 75 channels to watch live. These include channels like The CW, VH1, and MTV, as well as some of the same channels as Sling TV, such as CBS, Fox, and ESPN.

More does come at a price, though, setting you back $64.99 a month for the Hulu + Live TV package. There is the option of a 7-day Hulu free trial, though, and it’s fair to say Hulu makes a big name for itself in terms of its quality entertainment, from Hulu originals like Palm Springs to The Handmaid’s Tale.

Meanwhile Sling TV sets you back $25 a month for its full selection of channels across its Blue and Orange plans, with the option to pay additional fees for content from the likes of Starz and Showtime. There is no Sling TV free trial currently in sight, that doesn’t mean Sling TV is void of a good deal. In fact, Sling TV deals are an almost permanent fixture, including its $10 offer for the first month of your Sling TV membership.

Really, it comes down to personal preference and what you want to watch, as well as your budget, with both Sling TV and Hulu offering fantastic cord-cutter options for those who still want to watch live TV.

Are There Any Free Options

Yes, there are. The ABC channel is a broadcast network. Therefore, you can watch it for free over the air if its available in your region. But be sure to check before you buy an antenna.

Overall, an antenna is a reasonable investment as you can find a decent one for the same price as a monthly subscription to a streaming service. Its also easy to install. That way, youll be sure to catch your favorite show.

If you dont want to bother with an antenna, then Locast is a solid option. Its a free streaming service thats currently available in 17 cities around the U.S. ABC is included in their offer, so you can watch Jeopardy for free if youre lucky to live where Locast is available.

Its a non-profit organization, so it survives on donations. These donations arent required if you want to use the service, but theyre sure encouraged to help keep Locast afloat. You can download the app from Google Play, App Store, for Roku, and Amazon devices.

Which Service Has Better Prices

Hulu + Live TV is $64.99 per month and a subscription includes access to both Hulus live TV channels and its on-demand library of cable shows, originals, and movies. With this plan, you will need to deal with commercials when you stream on-demand content. You can upgrade to the $70.99-per-month Hulu + Live TV plan to watch Hulus on-demand content without ad interruptions .

Slings Blue and Orange plans each cost $30 per month. You can get both plans for a combined $45 per month, a price that is still significantly cheaper than Hulu + Live TV. Sling often bundles streaming hardware, such as the AirTV mini, AirTV 2, and indoor HD tuners, at a discounted price so long as you prepay for a few months. For example, if you prepay for three months of Sling, you can currently get all three of these devices for an additional $99. If you prepay for two months, you can get the AirTV mini for free.
