How Does It Work
Whether you purchase a Chromecast with Google TV or a Google TV-enabled TV, the experience is pretty similar. All Google TV-enabled devices need an internet connection. Some devices will give the option of using an Ethernet cable for a hard-wired connection, but they all work with Wi-Fi too. Setting up Google TV is pretty simple download the Google Home app on your mobile device for the fastest experience, but you can do it directly from the TV itself. Furthermore, having a Gmail account makes this experience seamless.
After the initial setup, you will be presented with the Google TV home screen. The home screen features a slide show of various movies and TV shows that are recommended based on viewing preferences. Also, it may include advertisements for the latest movie releases. Below is the Top picks for you column, which is another recommended list of content, followed by Your apps.
Google TV uses Knowledge Graph and machine learning to boost the discoverability of content aimed at the viewer. Googles Knowledge Graph is the companys collection of facts about people, places, and things. This allows Google to answer or present users with accurate information about movies, TV shows, historical facts, and more. The interface is divided into multiple tabs allowing users to browse by movies, shows, apps, and purchased content.
Using The Google Play Store App
All paid Android apps and games offer a two-hour trial period. During the two hours after you purchase an app or game, you can return it for a full refund. You can’t return the same app or game more than once.
Within some Android apps, you’ll have the option to purchase a subscription. A subscription is when you pay a recurring fee rather than a one-time price for the content of that app. Some Android apps with subscriptions have a trial period. Keep in mind:
- Trial subscriptions for Android apps last a minimum of seven days.
- You’ll see if an app has a trial period and how long it is before completing your purchase.
- If you cancel an app subscription before the trial period ends, you won’t be charged.
- If you do not cancel, you will be automatically billed for the subscription at the end of the trial period.
- You can only use one trial period per Android app subscription.

Dumpster Fire Of Ui And Ux
For a Google product, this app is astonishing awful. Ive used more of it recently for tv shows I love that have left Netflix and other streaming platforms. Here are the problem areas: 1) you can purchase all seasons of a series but the interface doesnt acknowledge you bought all of them and doesnt separate them out. So you have to search hundreds of episodes in a single line and the same seasons you purchased that are broken out by season ask you to purchase them again to view them in that menu. Its absurd. 2) there is no return to view or continue watching orientation in the UI except the one episode you were in anchored at the top of the experience. Once you complete that episode, you have to go back to the menu and find where you were and play the next episode. 3) the experience claims to allow binge watching but most shows do not auto play the next episode even when the feature is turned on. After each episode you have to go find your place and play the next which makes it even harder when 1) and 2) above are so poor. Honestly guys, put your celebrated design sprints in action and get the right folks from product, ux and design in a room and fix this shitshow. And maybe look at how seasons are sold and appear in the UI vs. buying each individual episode. Not rocket science here

The New Notification Available To Watch For Free
In order for Google TV to notify us when a movie or series reaches one of our streaming services, we have to first add that movie or series on your list. For this we have two options, search for the movie or series in the Google TV app or from the Google search engine. In the content card or card you will see the button On your list or My list that you will have to press so that Google knows that you want to see that series or movie in the future. In the tab My list you will see all your favorite movies and series, being able to filter to see which ones you can already watch for free with your subscription.
By default, from the last Google TV update, when one of those paid movies or a new series or season reaches one of our subscriptions, Google TV will send us a notification to let us know that we can now see such content for free.
From Settings> Update notification preferences we can deactivate the new option Available to watch for free if we do not want Google TV to notify us when content on our list can be viewed for free. In addition, by default, Google TV will also notify us when a movie on our list is also released for rent or purchase, or when it drops in price.
The only but big downside is that the Google TV app currently only supports Disney + and Prime Video subscriptions, so it still does not detect when a series or movie reaches Netflix or HBO Max, among other unsupported services.
How To Download For Offline Play
Google Play Movies for Chromebook, Android, and iOS are very similar to all other versions and work in the same way except for one great feature: offline play.
Google Play lets you download items youve purchased so that you can watch them when youre offline, but only if youre using Android, iOS, or Chromebook devices. Offline viewing is not available for PC, Mac, and other laptops and computers.
When using the Chrome app, to download something in your library, click on either My Movies or My TV Shows to view all your purchases.
If youre using the Play Store app, click Library to view your purchases.
Next, click the download icon on the title you want to download for offline viewing.
The download icon will fill in red to indicate your download progress. You can watch your video offline once the download icon turns into a checkmark. To remove a video after youve finished watching it, click the checkmark.
There you have it, everything you need to know about Google Play Movies for Chrome and Chromebook so you can start binging your favorite movies and TV shows now.

Google Restricts Hd Playback Of Purchased Movies
Many individuals have reported this issue across multiple devices. It seems that there is no way to play movies above 480p with no more options being given.
One potential explanation to this is to link it to Covid-19 induced streaming limits. However, others seem to think that there is a more backend problem that needs resolving before this can be fixed.
YouTubes support team believes it has found the source that has caused this issue. Claiming that it had to disable HD playback on the web due to a technical problem.
YouTube has offered no further explanation as to what this technical problem might be or what has caused it though=. The cap will get removed once the problem is fixed. However, unsurprisingly perhaps, no timeline has been offered as to when this may actually happen.
In the response from YouTube, it only mentioned movies and not TV shows explicitly. So it is not clear whether this cap applies to them as well but it could.
The only saving grace for users is that playback quality does not appear to be effected on other devices. It is only on the web that the problem has arisen so feel free to stream in HD from your mobile screens, Android TV, and Chromecast.
Hopefully, this issue will sort itself out fairly swiftly. However, the lack of detail on the problem and no commitment to a timeline suggests that it could be a bit of a wait.
Does Google TV Replace Android TV
Throughout 2021 and beyond, Google TV will be the primary interface for TV manufacturers that opted for Android TV, which was also developed by Google for use on TVs, media players, set-top boxes, and more. Google TV is essentially a re-skin of Android TV at its core with added features and will be used by Google going forward. In June, The Streamable reported that Googles VP of Android TV and Google TV, Shalina Govil-Pai, said that while Andriod TV will continue to provide the base operating system, Googles plan is to have all of their third-party Android TV partners shift all of their retail devices to Google TV. Check with your TV manufacturer to see if your TV can be updated to Google TV.

Just Got Italready Over It
I received a gift card for Google play and was excited to finally use it to purchase a movie! I am very disappointed however that I have been unable to watch the movie that I purchased. I have tried to watch it several ways, through the app, on my Apple TV, through my headphones, and not a single way works! On the screen sometimes I can hear the sound but I cannot see the picture and other times I see the picture with no sound. I cant believe that I cant even plug-in Bluetooth earphones because if you do it will not play. I have tried several times to play the movie but to no avail. I am really frustrated! I am very surprised at a product like this from Google. I sure hope that this app gets fixed. Google has such good products it doesnt make sense to have a product like this if it is not good and brings down your brand. Its sad to say but one negative can cancel out so many positives. That just seems the nature of the human condition. With that being said I like your other products…but not this one. Please fix it. Id like to watch my movie and I am nervous to purchase any more movies with my gift card!
How To Use Play Movies Chrome App
Once an extension for Google Chrome that has now turned into a Chrome App for Chrome OS, the Google Play Movies app acts essentially as a lite version of the site. Although you can still download Play Movies for Chrome on any platform directly from the web store link, Google has since dropped support for any device that isnt a Chromebook. Its also worth noting that the app doesnt support offline playback on anything other than Chromebooks.
To install the Chrome app for Play Movies & TV, head on over to the Chrome web store for Play Movies & TV and click on Add to Chrome.
On the popup, review the permission, then click Add app to give it access to Chrome.
Once the extension installs, click Launch App.
To open the app from your Chromebook desktop, click on the launcher icon, start typing Movies, then look for the icon with the grey Chrome logo in the lower right corner.
The interface for the app is similar to the web version but is limited to a few very basic features, like searching and browsing minimal titles, watching trailers, and watching your movies or TV shows from your library. The only real difference is, if you want to purchase anything, you have to click the Shop button at the top of the app, which brings you back to the web version of Play Movies. Other than that, it serves as a way to view trailers for movies, and a way to watch your purchases without having to navigate to the Play Movies web page.

Google Play Hd Movies Purchases Only Support 480p On The Web
In what appears to be an issue, purchases of movies from Google Play can only be played in 480p even if you bought the HD version. As reported by Android Police, the restriction appears to have begun in the middle of October.
Google has been working hard to improve its Play Movies offering over recent months. Most recently it improved the support for Samsung TVs by making it possible to watch HDR10+ movies.
Prior to this, it emerged that Google Play Movies on Android TV would get a redesign. Overall it was very well received with most finding the changes to be positive.
However, this restriction on the quality of Google Play Movies purchases appears to be a bit of a problem for the company. Until recently, one had no problem watching movies in full resolution, proving that is what you paid for. However, now things look to have changed.

How To Use Play Movies Android App For Chromebook
If youre using a Chromebook, you can access Google Play Movies & TV in three ways: head to the web store, install the Chrome app or use the Google Play Movies & TV Android app, which comes pre-installed if your Chromebook has the Play Store enabled.
Well be using the Play Store app in this example as the other two methods are identical on other devices. To access the app, click the Launcher button, then type in Movies to the search bar and click Play Movies.
You can navigate through the app by using the three tabs, located at the bottom of the screen: home, library, and wishlist.
Just like the Chrome extension, the Chromebook app looks and feels like a minimalist version of the web page. Although it lets you make purchases inside the app, it feels slightly unpolished. Where the web storefront gives you the means to search by genre immediately, you have to scroll down past four headings of movies before given the options to choose.
That minor grievance aside, the app feels fast and does contain most of the same functionality as the web version. Where the app excels is in its filter system, letting you select movie/TV, genre, sub-genre, whether you want to rent or own the movie, and right down to what decade the film was made. Its a pretty sweet feature that the web page is missing.
When youve decided that this is the movie or TV show you want, you can either rent or purchase it by clicking on the appropriate button provided.
