An outdoor antenna with an amplifier will boost the signal even more.
Do People Like Sling TV
Tech review site CNET picked Sling TV as its Editors Choice among budget live TV streaming services, writing that it surpasses cheaper options and undercuts its competitors. If your main priority is saving money over cable, it should be the first such service to check out, according to the site. Its limitations, though, are the fact that the add-ons are extensive and sometimes confusing, and the only way to get all your local live TV channels is to augment your service via an HD antenna , or an AirTV 2 DVR .
Users on ConsumerAffairs.com have given Sling TV mixed reviews. One user liked that you get a choice of programming and there are inexpensive extras you can pick, but noted, While I dont have all the choices I would like, I have quite a few. It also allows me the opportunity to resume watching if I end up turning it off before the show is over. And Im saving $60 a month from what I was paying for cable.
But another user noted problems with billing snafus, writing, Confusing billing and free-trial restrictions. Thought I was getting a free trial then I got charged earlier than expected.
Tech Radar, meanwhile, gives Sling TV a solid 3.5 stars out of 5, calling it live cable TV without the headache.

Many ad-supported heavyweights like Pluto TV and Tubi also offer some local news replays if youre in a large market. Its not the same thing as Locast, but those options provide at least some local coverage.
Its also possible Locast could prevail in court or try to find some sort of settlement. The appetite for this kind of service is definitely there, its just a question of who will provide it and how much it will cost.

Is Sling TV Cost
Whether or not Sling TV is cost-effective largely depends on the perspective of each consumer. But by any measure, the $35 base package is affordable, compared to most basic cable packages.
However, the costs of adding extra packages can mount quickly. For example, adding the “Sports Extra” package of 10+ extra channels costs an extra $11, bringing the total monthly bill to $46. Meanwhile, the average cable bill is over $100 per month.
Both cable consumers and Sling TV consumers encounter the same frustration of invariably paying for packages containing channels theyll never watch. Even Slings core line-up contains obscure channels such as Bet, Comet, and IFC, which few consumers have even heard of.

How To Watch Local Channels On Sling TV
With affordability on its side, Sling TV appeals to many cord-cutters because the service has a solid channel lineup as well. Sling TV offers a diverse range of programming from drama and entertainment to news and sports. Besides the default channels you get with your subscription, Sling even offers plenty of add-ons to customize your plan to your liking.;;
But as noted in our Sling TV review, the biggest drawback is its lack of local programming. Thats not to say that it doesnt have any local channels at all. You can still get local channels on Sling TV in select markets through networks like FOX and NBC. Even for the local channels not automatically available with your Sling TV subscription, you can still find a workaround to access them.
This post gives you a rundown of how to get local channels on Sling, which plans you need to access them, which regional sports networks are available, and more.

What Channels Come With A Sling TV Package
Were going to need your full attention for a moment, because Sling TVs packages are pretty confusing.
As mentioned earlier in the story, Sling TV has three basic live TV streaming packages: Sling Orange, Sling Blue and Sling Orange + Blue.
Sling Blue and Sling Orange are both $35 per month packages, but they offer different selections of channels.
The line in the sand appears to be the ESPN family of networks. Sling Orange has them, and Sling Blue does not. Since ESPN channels are expensive for the streaming providers, the Orange package, which includes the ESPN channels, has an otherwise stripped-down menu.
Sling Blue doesnt offer ESPN channels, but it offers more channel options for the same price. Instead of ESPN, youre able to get channels such as FOX News, MSNBC, Discovery, Bravo and your local NBC or FOX affiliates.
For an additional $15 per month, you can skip the comparison between Orange and Blue. Sling Orange + Blue is $50 per month and offers all of the channels from both $35 packages.
When looking at the channel menu below, you may notice that only NBC and FOX affiliates are offered with the Blue and Orange + Blue packages. That means youre completely out of luck if you want to watch your local ABC and CBS channels with Sling.
If youre looking for access to local channels, we have some ideas that wont break the bank.
