Additional Functionality And Apis
At International CES 2015, Google announced an expansion to Google Cast called “Google Cast for audio”, which allows apps that support the Google Cast SDK to play audio through compatible Wi-Ficonnected speakers, soundbars, and receivers. Manufacturers supporting Google Cast as a built-in function in their speakers include LG and Sony.
In May 2015, Google introduced new sets of APIs to Google Cast. The Cast Remote Display APIs allow developers to create second-screen experiences for apps such as games without needing to mirror displays. The Game Manager APIs offer developers more options for creating multiplayer games. Lastly, additional APIs were provided to control autoplaying and queuing of content.
In September 2015, Google announced “Fast Play” and accompanying developer tools, which are aimed at reducing the delays between loading content. Screen Mirroring To Your Samsung TV
That photograph you took is stunning, but you know what would make it look even more amazing? Projecting it onto a big screen. With Smart View, you can wirelessly connect a compatible Samsung device to a Samsung Smart TV. Beam photos, videos, presentations, and games on a large screen to make them look bigger and better.
Note: Available screens and settings may vary by wireless service provider, software version, and device model. Smart View is not available on every device. Devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network as the TV for screen mirroring.
Screen Mirroring: How And When To Use It
I want to show my exact desktop, laptop, phone, or tablet screen and all my movements on another display in the same room.
Screen mirroring duplicates your exact display onto another screen. Wired screen mirroring is still in use HDMI and the almost-extinct VGA cable but wireless screen mirroring has been around for years. To mirror your screen, you must have a display such as a TV or a monitor that can receive content wirelessly, using either built-in technology or an adapter.
AirPlay is one of the older technologies supporting screen mirroring, but works only with Apple devices. Miracast is another example of a wireless display technology that is used for screen mirroring. Miracast-enabled devices include most modern Windows and Android devices including tablets, smartphones, and laptops, some connected displays such as smart TVs, and some streaming devices such as Roku and Amazon Fire TVs.
In the workplace, screen mirroring is popularly used in meetings and features its own group of products tailored for its use, including Mersives Solstice collaboration platform. Solstice also supports screen mirroring through AirPlay and Miracast.
Here is where it gets tricky: there are some devices that allow screen mirroring alongside casting.

Where Is The Google Chromecast Extension
I spent way too much time looking for a Chromecast extension, but you don’t need to download anything new to get Chrome to work with Chromecast.
If you don’t see a Chromecast button in the menu bar, just click the three dots button in the top corner, and select Cast. Then, you can see the available devices to send video to your TV.
To keep the button there, right click on the Cast logo and select Always show icon.
What Is The Difference Between Chromecast And The Chromecast With Google TV
To put it simply: $20 and a heck of a lot of apps. The Chromecast with Google TV makes Google’s streaming device a lot more like the Fire TV sticks and Rokus it’s always competed with.
The biggest difference is likely the interface, in that there is an interface. The Chromecast with Google TV has 6,500 Android TV apps for you to use, so you’re not just relying on Chromecast support.
Also, there’s a full remote for controlling your stream, so you can put down your phone and pay attention to what’s on your TV.
The Chromecast with Google TV offers 4K video quality, with Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HDR10+, while the Chromecast tops out at 1080p.

What Is Android TV
Android TV is a version of the Android operating system for media devices. Its usually found on set-top devices, like the Nvidia Shield, which are larger than a Chromecast. However, Android TV can also be found in smaller Chromecast-like dongles or built-in on some televisions.
Unlike Chromecast, Android TV devices come with physical remotes. This is because Android TV has a traditional home screen, from which you can launch apps and games. Its similar to what you see on a Roku, Amazon Fire TV, or smart TV.
The easiest way to understand Android TV is to think of a smartphone. It has an app store, where you can download apps and games, a Home screen for shortcuts, and a Settings menu.

Just like Android phones and tablets, Android TVs also include the Google Play Store. This allows you to easily install apps specifically made for Android TV set-top boxes. You can even install some high-end games you can play with a controller.
The Chromecast built-in feature we mentioned previously is what youll find on your Android TV. While the primary method of interaction will be the remote control and Home screen, you can also cast content to an Android TV. just like you can with a Chromecast.
Its entirely possible to use an Android TV exactly as you would a Chromecast. Anything you can cast to a Chromecast, you can also cast to an Android TV. It can get a little strange, though.

There’s An Easier Way But It Depends On Your Phone
Using the Home app isn’t a lot of work, but there’s an even easier way: Use the Casting shortcut in the quick settings panel. Access the quick settings panel by swiping down from the top of your Android phone or tablet’s display. There should be an option labeled Screen cast — if you can’t find it, you may have to tap on the pencil icon to edit what is and isn’t available in your quick settings panel.
Once you find the Screen cast button, select it and then pick the device you want to mirror your display on from the list. It can take a few seconds for your phone to connect to the Chromecast-enabled device, but once it does, your screen will show up on your TV. Stop casting by repeating the same steps we just outlined.
Want to show off your photos? Mirror your screen.
But here’s the rub: Not every phone includes a cast button option in the quick settings panel. It’s not clear why, but if your phone doesn’t have the shortcut option, don’t give up. You can still mirror your phone using the Home app.

How Does Google Chromecast Work
While it might appear that you’re sending the video from your device to the Chromecast, most of the time it’s doing something more simple. Your connected device is merely telling your Chromecast what you want to play, and then the Chromecast will stream that media, using its own connection to the internet.
Of course, you can also use a Chromecast to mirror your phone, tablet or laptop’s screen on your TV. This requires a lot more active intent, as your device cannot be put to sleep or unlocked, without the feed going down. Oh, and if your Chromecast is getting an update right now, get excited. The Chromecast will finally remember your volume settings, and the Google Home app is becoming a better virtual remote control.

Screen Casting: How And When To Use It
I want to play video, music, or other content on another display in the same room.
Screen casting differs from screen mirroring in two ways. When youre casting to another display, youre not mirroring the screen of your device. You can cast a video to another display and still use your device, often a phone or tablet, without interrupting the video or showing any of your other content. When you cast content from your phone to a TV, you will no longer see the content on your phone. It will only appear on the TV.
Additionally, the content is not played from your phone or tablet. The device connected to the display downloads and plays the content on the TV. Once you have screen cast the content to the TV, you will need to control it from the TV and not your phone or personal device.
The term casting as it is currently used grew in popularity largely after the launch of Chromecast, and it quickly became the standard term for playing content on your TV from an app on your mobile device. Googles Chromecast is one of the most popular streaming devices that is capable of casting and can be built into any number of apps.
