Buying Bigger Expect An Adjustment Period
One thing is for sure, even if you are within the 30º to 40º recommended field of view, a new TV can take some time to get used to. From our experience, it can take anything from a few weeks to a few months to get used to the size of a large display.
In that time you might adjust the height or distance you sit from your display to feel more comfortable. It isnt unusual to experience cyber sickness with larger displays, especially while playing games. This is like motion sickness but in reverse, where you see movement on the screen but dont feel it in your muscles or inner ear.

Visualizing How Your TV Will Look
One of the best ways of visualizing how a larger TV will look in your living room is to create a cardboard model of the screen size. You can do this by taping a few old boxes together, then prop it up in place and stand back.
This wont simulate what its like watching content on the TV, but it will give you a good idea of whether the field of view is too wide, or whether the TV looks ridiculous in a small room. You can move furniture around to suit or see what difference mounting the TV on the wall would make.

I find larger screen sizes easier on the eyes, as more of your field of view is taken up with the roughly uniform brightness of the screen. In an otherwise dark room, your pupils are more naturally closed to the amount of light thanks to the big screen.
Conversely, I find watching a small screen in a dark room more fatiguing, as your pupils are more open with this one annoying pinprick of bright light . Many people complain about headaches when they watch TV in a dark room. One possible cause is the hundreds of nits from an HDR TV taking up a tiny fraction of your field of view. Think about when someone shines a flashlight in your eyes when you’ve been in the dark for an hour. With a projector, you’ve got far less light than what a TV produces, and it’s spread out over a huge swath of your vision.
True bias lights, leaving the room lights on and turning down an LCD’s backlight can minimize fatigue as well or better than a big screen, but I like watching TV in a dark room. To each their own.

The depth is the distance from the front to the back of the TV, measuring how thick the TV is. This will tell you how far it will stick out from the wall or whether it will fit into an alcove or entertainment unit. To measure the depth of the TV, start at the front edge and measure back to the furthest point.
Quick tip: If you don’t have a tape measure, you could use a few sheets of 8.5 inch by 11 inch paper to measure the TV. You can also use a dollar bill, which is 6 inches long and 2.5 inches tall.
