Find Miracast Support On Android TV
Before we begin, let me tell you I am using Mi TV 4X running the latest Android 9. Xiaomi recently added support for Miracast on Mi TV so I am able to use the Miracast feature now. Xiaomi has added a separate Miracast app to connect with wireless displays.
For Android TVs manufactured by other vendors such as Sony, Samsung, LG et al, you may have to dig into settings and find the Miracast menu. This is applicable for not just Android TV but all smart TVs. Make sure Miracast is enabled and discoverable. I would also recommend you to go through Settings -> Apps -> See All Apps.
If need be, go through all the System Apps and find the Miracast menu. You can also go through all the Settings menu and find the Miracast option. As for this guide, I am going to show how you can find Miracast support on Mi TVs.
1. On the Android TV interface, move to the + button which is available along the Apps section.
2. Here, you will find the Miracast app. Simply select it and the app will be added to your favorite apps section. If Miracast is not available here then search it under Settings -> Apps -> See All Apps.
3. Now open the Miracast app and the wireless display feature will be enabled. You should stick to this screen while casting Windows 10 to Android TV.

Big Laptop Libraries: Plex
If you’ve built a big media library on your computer, you can stream it easily to your TV using Plex. Plex is media server software that can catalog all of your video and audio files and stream them to any device running the Plex app. It can also act as a front-end for streaming media services, and can even record live TV with a USB tuner.
All major media streamers support Plex, along with many smart TV platforms. It can even stream to your phone, tablet, or any other compatible device outside of your house, as long as your computer is on and connected to the internet. Plex is available for free, but for more advanced features like live TV and DVR, you need to get the premium Plex Pass for $4.99 a month, $39.99 a year, or $119.99 for a lifetime subscription.
Plex is very functional for media playback and streaming, even in its free form. It doesn’t support any sort of screen mirroring, however anything streamed to the Plex app on your TV or media streamer must be registered through the server software. That means no games. It also tops out at 1080p, so it can’t stream 4K.
Pros: Robust media format and service support. Accessible outside of the home. Free, with optional premium subscription for advanced features.
Cons: Doesn’t support 4K. Doesn’t work with games.

Connect Laptop To TV: Windows 10
If you’ve got a Windows 10 laptop and a compatible TV, one of the easiest ways to transmit your laptop screen to your TV is to use the new screen-casting capabilities that are built into the Windows 10 interface. Just go to the Action Center and click Connect. Your laptop will scan for and give you options to connect to any nearby Miracast-enabled device.
The beauty of technologies such as Miracast is that they don’t rely on your home/office wireless network. Instead, signals are transmitted via Wi-Fi Direct, which has a shorter signal range but enables device-to-device streaming without a central router.
The newer your TV, the more likely it is to already be Miracast-compatible, eliminating the need for extra hardware or adapters. Windows 10 systems can connect to older TVs, too. You just need to add one of the relatively low cost, set-top streaming units available from Roku, Amazon, or others, many of which include Miracast options .

Casting With A Wireless Video Hdmi Kit
Wireless video display kits allow you to cast a laptop screen to a TV without a wired connection. These kits often include everything you need for casting and offer an easy plug and play set-up.
While both wireless display adapters and wireless video HDMI kits eliminate cable clutter, there are a few differences. Wireless Video HDMI kits typically come with a transmitter that connects to your laptop, and a receiver that connect to a TV. Wireless Video HDMI kits tend to be a more permanent set up or solution as in an office conference room. They are also more versatile in terms of compatibility and the content that can be delivered over them. Typically using a wireless video HDMI kit, you can share any content from your laptop on a TV, including HD video and audio, websites, files, applications and more.
When looking into wireless video HDMI, it may be best to get a kit that includes all the necessary components. Also check into compatibility. Kits are not a one-size-fits-all solution. Some kits may not be compatible with your specific laptop or TV.
How To Cast A Supported Website
Some websitesfor example, YouTube and Netflixhave special support for the Chromecast. On these websites, youll see a special cast icon in the video or audio player.
This is similar to how your Chromecast works with YouTube, Netflix, and other supported apps on Android and iOS devices.
You can either click this icon or select the normal Cast option in Chromes menu. If you use Chromes menu, click the Select source icon and choose the website from the list.
If you start casting without selecting anything specific on such a site, Chrome will automatically cast from the website instead of casting your browser tab.
Casting from a supported website is different than casting a tab. Your Chromecast will stream the video directly, so performance will be better and smoother than if you were mirroring a tab. The interface will also transform into a sort of remote control with playback controls for the video or audio youre casting to your Chromecast.

Connecting A Laptop To A TV Wirelessly
Two of the most popular wireless methods for displaying a laptop screen on a TV are Google Chromecast and the screen-casting tool that’s built into Microsoft Windows 10, based on technology called Miracast.
As Lenovo is a PC company, we’re limiting this screen-sharing discussion to the Windows and Android-based laptops, tablets and Chromebooks that we sell. Users of Apple iOS devices might wish to review a separate article, What is Apple TV?
How To Cast A Browser Tab
To cast a tab, select Cast tab and then click your Chromecast in the list. If you dont select any source, your Chromecast will automatically start casting the tab by default.
It should be automatically detected if its online. If it doesnt appear in the list, be sure its online. For example, you may need to turn on your TV if youre powering your Chromecast through your TVs USB port.
When casting a tab, youll see a blue Cast icon to the left of the X on the browser tab.
To adjust the volume or stop casting the tab, right-click the page and select Cast or click the menu button and select Cast. The Cast dialog will reappear, providing a volume control and a Stop button that stops casting.
You can close this dialog if you like by clicking the X, which will hide it. Chrome will only stop casting if you close the tab or click the Stop button.

Why Use Your TV As A Second Screen
If you’re working from home, the biggest benefit to connecting your computer to your TV is being able to use it as a second monitor. TVs are bigger screens and generally farther away from your face than monitors, but you can easily toss a few Chrome tabs with Slack, your email client, and any useful information or messaging services up there so you can see if you need to respond to anything at a glance. Keep in mind a second-screen system only works with a few of the methods listed below, though.
This can be a big advantage for students, too. A large screen offers a bigger, clearer view of presentations and speakers, and allows for easier collaboration if a number of students are attending remote classes at once. If a laptop or tablet screen doesn’t seem like it’ll be big enough for schoolwork, a TV will do the job.
All of these methods let you stream media to your TV, so if you have lots of videos on your hard drive or only visible through a web app you can send them to your TV. You can also use Plex to simply share your entire local media library, along with a slew of online services, directly to your TV with a simple menu interface.
You can even game this way. An HDMI cable is the best way to do this locally, but Steam Link has proven surprisingly capable of streaming locally networked gaming from your PC to your TV.
