Tricks For Hiding Electronics And Cords

How to Hide Your TV Wires for $10

The television isnt the biggest eyesore for me its the cords and then all the boxes and other wires that come along with the entertainment setup! Try some of these creative ways to get those cords and technology out of sight:

Bigger Than The Three of Us kept it simple: a new multi-outlet plug and some zip ties pulled all the cords up behind the TV console instead of on the floor.

In a similar cheap and easy solution, Like a Saturday used hot glue and clips to keep the cords off the floor.

Simple camouflage: strategically stacked books. And the cable box blends right in!

Burlap and Babies used a couple of wall plates and some flexible tubing to send their cords through the wall, over to the shelving unit on the side.

And since they were doing some work on the wall anyway, While I Linger added a PVC pipe channel for their TV and electronic cords.

Uncookie Cutter modified the industrial style PVC pipe shelves that Sawdust 2 Stitches shared by using a wider pipe to conceal cords! An entertainment center and a cord-hider in one.

Kruses Workshop built a great media table and notched out one of the legs to give the cords a place to hide .

House Tweaking built a TV wall to house the television and cords.

A vertically planked section of the wall can hide the cords while adding a nice style element.

Sawdust 2 Stitches built this Pottery Barn knockoff hidden compartment for firearms, but with a little modification, it could hide your TV instead!

Conceal Your Power Strip

The power strip is the source of so many things, but cord clutter is often the main attraction of this show. Try lifting the strip off the ground to keep all those plugs out of sight. Most power strips have holes on the back so you can even hang them on the wall with just a few screws or nails. If your entertainment center has legs for days, installing the power strip just below the base bridges the gap between the furniture and the wall. Another option is a wall-mounted power strip that plugs right into the outlet.

Install New Power Sockets Or Hdmi Ports Behind The TV

If you decide to wall-mount your TV, then hanging wires are going to be obvious from the get-go. If you’re lucky enough to own your own home and have sheetrock walls, you could pay an electrician to install a power socket or HDMI ports in the wall for you. But that’s expensive, and if you rent your home or you’re mounting the TV on a brick or concrete wall, it’s not an option. An exterior solution, namely a cable raceway, is a more economical choice.

Diy Guide: Hiding Cords On A Wall

Nothing puts a finishing touch on a modern room than a wall-mounted HDTV. Whether it’s in the living room, a family room or the bedroom, a large-screen television placed in a prominent and optimal viewing spot on the wall gives any space a contemporary, finished appearance. That look is greatly diminished, though, if there are unsightly black power and HDMI cables running down the wall from a newly-installed monitor. Hiding the cords is as important to the overall appearance of the room as hanging the television.

The overall task may seem daunting at first, particularly if you’re not an accomplished carpenter or electrician. Fear not – it’s surprisingly simple. Here’s how to go about it.

Place some home decoration items, picture frames, plants or books under the TV and position them so that they cover the cords. Make sure you dont just put the items randomly below the TV. They should look natural and blend in the environment. Thats all.

Use Hooks Behind Your Furniture To Hide TV Wires

A DIY-hack for packing away all of those pesky wires hanging from your wall-mounted TV is to use plastic hooks/pegs. These are easily available in hardware stores or online. All you have to do is attach the hooks to the back edge of your furniture and anchor the cords to them. Once the cords are hooked in, they will hide behind the silhouette of your furniture seamlessly. Simply press each clip in place for around 30 seconds or so, and let the adhesive rest and stick to your furniture for about half an hour, then it should be sticky enough to hold the weight of the wires.

This tip doesnt just work when you are trying to hide TV wires, but also when you need to arrange cords and cables at your work desk. The one downside of this solution is that it is temporary, since the hooks may need to be replaced from time to time. Also, this hack only works if you have a piece of furniture placed right below your wall-mounted TV. For those who do…you already have a built-in solution for how to hide TV wires.

Bring Your Cords All Together

How to Hide Wires for Wall Mounted TV – Easy DIY

This one will work best if you have some type of stand or surface beneath your wall-mounted TV. Instead of messing around with the cords themselves, just strategically place accessories to cover them up!

Not only is this method simple, its also one of the most creative ways to hide TV cords! Just be sure the accessories you use flow with the rest of your space and dont look out of place. A few well positioned books or snazzy art pieces can look like a natural part of your décor. The cords will still be there, but no one will even notice. A huge challenge when hiding TV wires is that there are just so many of them! Cords for the TV itself, cords for your cable box, cords for media players, the list goes on and on. To alleviate this, good cord management is essential. A cable wrap tube functions as one big cable that fits all your little cables. This method isnt going to make your cords disappear on its own, but when paired with other methods, it can make your set up look a lot cleaner. Plus, it will be much easier to completely hide your cables in the future. After all, hiding one cable is a lot easier than hiding 10.

Camouflage TV Cords And Cables

This method is similar to turning the cords into a wall art but this time they practically become invisible for everyone who doesnt know about their location.

You can use any combination of home decoration items to camouflage your cables. Your goal is to conceal the cords in a larger creation so that they become hardly noticeable. Youll certainly need some imagination if you decide to hide your cables this way but the end result will speak for itself. If all this sounds too abstract for you, heres a photo for some inspiration:

Conceal TV Wires Behind Wall Trim

Its not the easiest and quickest way to hide your TV cords, but its certainly an eye-catching one. It can be a great solution when you want to hide TV wires over a fireplace.

Its major disadvantage is that the cables are not so easy to access under the trim work if you need to remove or add one in the future. Thats why I only recommend this method if youre willing to spend some time disassembling the trim work each time you add or remove a new device to your TV set .

So, the basic idea is to hide the cords in a channel formed by two slats and covered with a third one. Youll need to make both horizontal and vertical channels.

Before you start the execution, I suggest that you plan and design the trim work on paper, and test the length of the wires. You can paint the slats any color you like, but do that before mounting them on the wall . For more detailed instructions, visit this website.
