In our TV test space, we submit every TV to a number of lab tests, using industry-standard equipment, such as a calibrated spectrophotometer, calibration software and a dedicated test pattern generator. We measure for several indicators of picture quality, but these are the main metrics used in all of our reviews:
Color gamut, which measures how much color a given TV can produce. Expressed as a percentage rating, most OLED TVs meet or exceed 100% of the Rec709 color space.
Color accuracy, which measures the average deviation from perfect accuracy, expressed as a number , with higher numbers indicating less accurate color.
Contrast, measuring the difference between the darkest darks and brightest brights that a TV can produce, which is expressed as a ratio.
Brightness, measuring the peak luminance of a panel or display. This measure is reported in nits, an industry term for candela per square meter .
Lag time is the interval between a signal, such as button press on a game console, and the subsequent change registering on-screen. Measured with a Leo Bodnar Video Signal Input Lag Tester, this is measured in milliseconds, and provides a good indicator of how well-suited a TV is to modern gaming.
What Are Led TVs
An Led TV contains two parts, including LCD panels and backlight.
The LCD panel contains pixels, which are the little colored dots that make up a TV’s image. The pixels cannot be seen on their own, and they require a backlight. When the lights produced by the backlight shines, you can see the color of the static image.
An LED TV is not equal. You can have variances in the number and quality of LEDs used in the backlight. The variances in the number and quality of LED backlighting lead to differences in black levels and brightness.
If you have heard of QLED TVs, it is also a type of LED TV. The only difference is that they use a technology known as quantum dots to offer better quality color and brightness.

What Does Oled TV Mean
The OLED in OLED TV stands for organic light-emitting diode. OLEDs have the unusual property of being able to produce both light and color from a single diode when theyre fed electricity. Do I Need To Worry About Burn
Burn in, or image retention, is when an image or sequence is played so often and continuously on a television set that it leaves a permanent mark on the panel obviously not ideal for a home television.
You don’t particularly need to worry, as it largely happens only when displaying a static image or sequence on repeat, as with a display unit in a showroom or retail store. You should get several years warranty, anyhow, and we don’t see many home cinema fans using their OLED TV in this way.
TV makers like LG are also working to limit the risk of this, with screen saver features, a Screen Shift function that “moves the screen slightly at regular intervals to preserve image quality”, and “Logo Luminance Adjustment, which can detect static logos on the screen and reduce brightness to help decrease permanent image retention” .
But if you’re planning on leaving your TV for countless hours at a time say, to parent the children in your absence, or to play the same looping video over and over then OLED may not be the right panel technology for you.

Im having trouble recommending the Switch OLED to anyone. I hardly notice the screen size change. The screen renders moving objects oddly its almost as if the OLED screens vibrancy accentuates the lower frame rate of Nintendo Switch games.
The larger kickstand is by far the only flawless improvement of the OLED model. The original Switch kickstand feels so flimsy, and opening it feels nearly impossible. The tension of the OLED kickstand is solid, and it can be adjusted freely through many degrees of tilt.

Generally speaking, if you’re in the market for a TV, Samsung’s QLED TVs are a good choice, and provide decent value for the money. The technology is not only well-established as a substantial improvement over standard LCD TVs, Samsung has also been refining the technology and integrating it with other display optimizations for years, and offers the best in-breed even as QLED technology shows up on 4K sets from competing brands.
Look out for Samsung’s cheaper sets, though. The Samsung Q60T in particular is an affordable-ish QLED that doesn’t deliver the full value that QLED can offer. It’s worth ponying up the extra for the Q70T it’s not much more, but it is that much better.
But, aside from Samsung’s budget-play Q60T, we’ve been impressed with pretty much every Samsung QLED set we’ve seen and reviewed.
