How Does Apple TV Stack Up
Editors note: Apple relased its fourth-generation Apple TV in October 2015, but that doesnt mean owners of older Apple TV models are out of luckthere are still loads of channels and apps available. This guide is specifically for the third-generation Apple TV sets or older. If youre looking specifically for fourth-generation Apple TV apps, read this story.
When youre trying to pick a set-top box, content is king. Youre not just picking a box, youre choosing an ecosystem: If you already buy or rent content from iTunes, the Apple TV seamlessly puts it on the biggest screen in the house. The Fire TV is similarly amazing if you shop for digital media at Amazon, and the Chromecast is great for frequent shoppers of the Google Play Store.
But each box also includes access to dozens of other content sources: Roku and Fire TV have onboard stores for finding new channels, but the Apple TV just tosses new channels up on the home screen as they come online. Theyve been multiplying quickly lately, so we sat down with Apples teeny remote and combed through the entire set of offerings. Now you can more easily compare the Apple TVs selection to the Chromecast and Roku, plus know which channels have free content to watch and which you might as well hide from the menu if you cant log in with a cable subscription.

Apple TV Plus: Shows Channels Devices And Everything You Need To Know
Is Apple TV Plus worth the money?
Apple TV Plus has been around for almost three years now, and despite improving rapidly with investment in big, expensive programming, the platform still doesn’t hold a candle to the likes of Netflix and Prime Video when it comes to library size.
Clearly, though, Apple intends to play the long game, with plenty of star-studded content set to continue trickling through its streamer in 2022 and beyond. We didn’t hear a peep about Apple TV Plus during the company’s recent Far Out reveal event that showcase was dedicated to its new iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 14 Pro models but we do know that plenty more Apple-produced movies and TV shows are on the horizon.
For a comprehensive assessment of Apple TV Plus as it stands today, check out our Apple TV Plus review. Below, we’ve rounded up all the basic information worth knowing about this still-young streaming service including details surrounding its cost, shows and compatibility across multiple devices.
Brad Pitt Formula One Movie
Apple has reportedly beaten out competition from the likes of Netflix, Amazon, Sony, and more to pick up a new Brad Pitt movie all about Formula One racing. Set to involve Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski alongside Jerry Bruckheimer, Deadline reports that the movie will see Pitt star as a driver who takes a younger racer under his wing:
Apple is in exclusive negotiations and will close the first big film package of the new year. That’s the highly competitive race to acquire an untitled pitch package that will have Brad Pitt playing a racer who comes out of retirement to mentor a younger driver and take his final stab at glory on the track as the younger driver’s teammate.

How To Cancel Apple TV Channel Subscriptions
Apple is a little sneaky when it comes to subscriptions. By default, they turn off email receipts. Many people subscribe to Apple services they dont use at all, yet theyre entirely unaware of this wasteful situation. Even worse, its so simple to cancel an Apple service. You can do it on your iPhone, iPad, or other devices. Although its not hidden, Apple doesnt make it obvious how to cancel Apple TV channel subscriptions. Find out how to turn on email receipts and cancel Apple TV channels.

Does Apple TV Have Local Channels For Free
Apple TV users in the US and UK can now watch local channels for free, thanks to a new update.
Users can now watch ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC in the US, and BBC One, BBC Two, ITV, Channel 4, and Channel 5 in the UK. This is a great addition for cord cutters, as it means they can watch their favorite channels without having to pay for a cable or satellite subscription.
This update is available on Apple TV 4 and Apple TV 5, and it is rolling out gradually. If you don’t see the local channels you’re looking for yet, be sure to check back later as it may be available soon.
The Problem With Jon Stewart
The Problem with Jon Stewart is a companion podcast series to the TV+ series of the same name. The idea of the weekly show is to extend the conversation of each TV episode. Wild Things: Siegfried & Roy
Wild Things: Siegfried & Roy, an eight-part podcast series, shares the behind-the-scenes story of the world’s most famous magical duo.
Over the course of nearly half a century, Siegfried & Roy performed 30,000 shows for millions of people. Although the German-born illusionists and pop culture icons were mega-famous, much about their private lives, eccentric public personae and tragic final show remained shrouded in mystery ⦠until now. Emmy Award-winning filmmaker and investigative journalist Steven Leckart goes behind the velvet curtain to reveal shocking moments, surprising details and hidden truths about two men who were lionized by millions of fans, lampooned by the media, criticized by animal welfare advocates, and endlessly scrutinized by the public.
Apple continues to grow its number of TV+-adjacent podcast offerings, though Wild Things does not offer a TV counterpart as is the case for The Line and The Problem With Jon Stewart, nor is it a companion podcast like those that launched with its Foundation and For All Mankind TV+ series.
Ramy Youssef/steve Way Series
Ramy Youssef, co-creator and star of Hulu’s Ramy, is set to serve as the executive producer of a new show for Apple TV+, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Having signed an overall deal with studio A24, Youssef will create and develop new projects including one for Apple starring Ramy‘s Steve Way in a story that shows “perspective and the experience of a disabled person and their family in a real way.”
“Steve had an A-story storyline in season one but I want to build something around him that can show, ‘What is it like to be a disabled person but also in a disabled community?’ ‘What is it like to be with other people who are going through similar things and not just being the one in someone else’s story?’ We’re developing that with Apple right now,” he said.

Peanuts In Space: Secrets Of Apollo 10
Apple actually released this short film before the launch of Apple TV+ to coincide with the 50th Anniversary of NASA’s Apollo 10 mission. The “documentary” stars Jeff Goldblum as a self-published NASA historian and Ron Howard as himself and tries to solve the great mystery: Was Snoopy a top-secret astronaut?
Is Apple TV Plus Worth It
Whether or not Apple TV Plus is worth it will depend on how much you value fresh and original content. Its not the platform for people who want to binge-watch The Office for the umpteenth time.
Apple TV Plus features some great original content that could be worth the subscription fee for serious TV junkies, though. They include sci-fi epic Foundation, based on Isaac Asimovs classic novels The Morning Show, a drama starring Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and Steve Carell See, an epic sci-fi drama starring Jason Momoa and Alfre Woodard M. Night Shyamalans horror series Servant .
Compared to other big hitters in the streaming world, Apple TV Plus wont offer access to new blockbuster films or fan-favorite classics, but its the only service to focus so heavily on big-budget original content. Apple is reportedly spending billions of dollars to attract top-tier talent and has deep pockets to keep the platform running as time goes on.
Apple TV Plus also has a fairly generous family sharing plan, allowing up to six family members to use the same account. Even better, they can use their own logins, so you dont need to share your password with anybody.
Another thing to consider is that if youre already in the Apple ecosystem, you may be able to get the service for free.
