The last fans saw of Linda was the finale of season 7. After her husband became embroiled in a major drug bust, he found himself in the crosshairs of a criminal organization that was looking to send a message. This resulted in the couple’s house being burned down in the final moments of the episode. Fans were relieved to see that Linda, Danny, and their children were safe, and the season ended with them seeking shelter at Danny’s father’s house.

Given that season finales are typically where major character deaths occur in TV shows, Blue Bloods aficionados would be forgiven for thinking that the Reagan clan was safe for another season.
