Its tempting to blow off Apple TV 4K if youre not in the Apple ecosystem. Id fight that instinct, though its understandable. I used to run one of the largest Android blogs around. I get it. But the simple fact is that if you dont mind having your phone detached from your streaming experience, you can still enjoy Apple TV 4K for what it truly is a great way to stream video on your TV.
But if youre all-in with the Apple ecosystem with an iPhone or an iPad or a Mac, or any combination of the three it makes even more sense.
Agree To Continue: Apple TV 4k
Every smart device now requires you to agree to a series of terms and conditions before you can use it contracts that no one actually reads. Its impossible for us to read and analyze every single one of these agreements. But were going to start counting exactly how many times you have to hit agree to use devices when we review them since these are agreements most people dont read and definitely cant negotiate.
To use the Apple TV 4K, you must agree to:
- Apples tvOS terms and conditions
- Warranty agreement
- iCloud terms and conditions
- Game Center terms and conditions
You can also optionally choose to provide Apple and developers with crash reports and app analytics.
Final tally is four mandatory agreements and one optional.
Video streams on the Apple TV 4K still deliver exceptional quality, but some of the frustrations we mentioned nearly four years ago still remain present in tvOS today. Apple has long enabled the box to match the dynamic range and frame rate of playing content, but not all apps have taken advantage of this feature. So if your preference in video settings is Dolby Vision with dynamic range matching enabled, youll still encounter some situations where SDR content looks unappealing due to forced HDR processing. Setting tvOS to SDR by default with matching enabled leads to the best outcome, though YouTube annoyingly doesnt flip over to HDR if you do this.

Apple TV 4k: Pricing And Specs
Apple has been selling streaming TV media boxes since 2007before the iPhone even! The first Apple TV 4K was released in 2017, and a second-generation version landed very recently, in May 2021.
The new Apple TV 4K has the same price and the same design as the previous model. But it upgrades the A10X processor for an A12, allowing it to play back 4K HDR video at up to 60fps. It also supports ARC and eARC. Perhaps the most significant upgrade is the new Siri Remote, which went from being one of the worst Apple products to a quite nice and functional way to control the Apple TV.
Apple TV 4K comes in both 32GB and 64GB versions, but most people will have no need for the 64GB model. Most streaming apps dont use much space, so we recommend most users not spend extra for 64GB.

The Remote Controls Look Alike

Something to keep in mind if the remote is lost is that an Apple TV control function is installed as standard on the iPhone and iPad with a similar appearance to the remote itself.
As we have commented, the Chromecast also integrates its own control and although it has its similarities, it ends up being more complete than that of the Apple TV because it has different direct access buttons. This means that in addition to being able to move through the different applications and run them, you can also quickly access applications such as or Netflix. It also has a shortcut to mute the sound or return to the main menu to change the content you are viewing.
Application And Game Selection
Currently, the selection of applications and games available to Apple TV is well-rounded — there are thousands of applications to choose from.
Still, when compared to the iOS App Store, the offering is paltry. The number of available applications is somewhere in the low thousands — 3,600 as of January — compared to over 1.5 million applications in the iOS App Store.
Paired with App Thinning, such a limited selection of applications, especially games, makes it much more difficult — albeit not impossible — to fill up the storage on any Apple TV. However, as more is added to the store, the accumulation of games and apps may force you to pick and choose down the road.

What You Get In An Apple TV+ Subscription
Apple TV+ is ad-free, all content is available for streaming on demand, and content can be downloaded locally so you can watch it offline if you know you’ll be somewhere without internet access.
Even after a one-week free trial, Apple TV+ is significantly less expensive than Netflix .
One reason Apple’s streaming service is priced so affordably is that there’s no back catalog unlike Netflix, Apple has made no mention of licensing any TV shows or movies for its new service. It’s all original content.

Resolutions Supported By Apple TV And Chromecast
The Chromecast can be connected to the TV or projector via high speed HDMI. This means that 4K resolution is supported so that you can enjoy the content at the highest possible quality. This is obviously possible as long as you have a device that is compatible with this resolution, otherwise it will be rescaled downwards. 4K is not simple, but HDR technology is also integrated to give colors a much more realistic intensity.
The Apple TV already carries in its own name the resolution it supports: 4K. In this case it is possible to connect it to monitors, televisions and even projectors as well, although obviously these external elements must be compatible with 4K resolutions to be seen in that definition. The way to connect it is also through an HDMI cable that, by the way, is not included. Therefore in the end we find similar specifications in this regard.

Apple unveiled the sixth-generation Apple TV 4K during the “Spring Loaded” event in April 2021. It has an updated processor, an updated Siri Remote, and a new color balance feature for content. The set-top box relies upon tvOS for its features though no new software functions have been announced.
How Does The New Remote Perform
The outgoing Apple TV remote was a usability disaster. It featured a touchpad-like surface near the top to aid with navigating the user interface, but it was fussy and widely bemoaned. The new Apple TV 4K remote fixes just about everything.
One of the first things youll notice about the new remote is how thick it is. Its a significant piece of aluminum and I like the heft. A number of dedicated buttons make dealing with tvOS a breeze. Theres a power button, back and home buttons, a play/pause button, and mute and volume controls. The Siri button has been relocated to the right edge of the remote, mirroring its location on the iPhone.

A large circular directional button replaces the old touchpad. It has four dedicated arrows for navigating the UI, and a central button for making selections. These surfaces are also touch-sensitive, so you can run your thumb around the outer edge of the circle to scrub forward or backward through your song or movie, and swipe up, down, and back and forth to move through long playlists and menus.
Siris forte is finding content. Apples infamous digital assistant, which often isnt all that helpful on the iPhone, really shines on the Apple TV range. Its able to find content much faster than you can by searching manually, and the new mic is more sensitive and able to hear your voice over loud action movies.
