How To Download Apple TV Apps
Once you’ve found the app you’re looking for, it’s time to download it to your Apple TV.
Select the app icon.
This will take you to a page where you can read a quick summary or swipe down to view screenshots, check out user reviews and ratings, and see what kinds of in-app purchases it has.
When you’re ready to download the app, highlight and select Get, Buy, or Install.
Free apps will have an arrow pointing down and say “Get,” paid apps will say “Buy,” and apps you’ve already downloaded will have a cloud with an arrow pointing down and say “Install.”
You’ll be taken to a confirmation page where you can either confirm or cancel your selection.

Buy or rent a movie: Select Buy or Rent, then select the option you want and confirm your purchase or rental.
In some regions, you can rent movies. You have 30 days to begin watching a rented movie. After you start watching it, you can play it as many times as you want within 48 hours. During the rental period, you can download the rented movie on one device at any given time and also stream it on another. For example, you can start watching a movie downloaded on your iPhone, then finish watching it later on your Apple TV. Once your time is up, the movie is no longer available.
Buy an episode or season: Select Buy from , then select the option you want and confirm your purchase.
Select the subscription button, then follow the onscreen instructions.
Remove an item from Up Next: Select In Up Next.

Apple TV+ On Roku Devices
To get started, install the Apple TV app on your Roku device from the Channel Store. You can either install it from the Roku website or search for Apple TV directly on your device to get it.
The first time you launch it, you will have set up screens. One of which is the option not to send Apple any viewing and usage analytics. This is nice if you are concerned about Apple tracking your viewing habits.

The app looks just like it does on Apple TV, iPad, or iPhone. It has the same categories as Watch Now, Movies, TV Shows, and Kids at the top. And you can scroll through to browse titles and view trailers.
But to view content, and more importantly, see your purchased iTunes video content , youll need to log in with your Apple ID. Head to Settings > Accounts > Sign in. Then log in using your mobile device or directly on the Roku device.
After you sign in, you will have access to your iTunes video collection. Your recently viewed movies and shows will sync between your devices that have the app installed. You can also start renting and purchasing movies and TV shows from Apple.

What Do I Need To Do Before Downloading Apps
You shouldn’t need to do much beyond the initial setup process for the Apple TV device itself in order to install apps. That should include things like making sure the software is up-to-date and logging into an Apple account. If, for some reason, you didn’t do either of those things, we’ve got you covered.
On the software side, keeping things updated is pretty simple. Apple TV 4K or HD device owners need to go to the Settings menu, then hit System, and from there, hit Software Updates to get to the menu for, well, software updates. Once there, you can toggle automatic updates, which is generally advisable if you’d rather avoid doing this again in the future, but not required. You can also hit the “Update Software” button if there’s an update available and the device should take care of the rest.
Owners of the older third-generation Apple TV can do the same thing, but they need to go to the General area of the Settings menu instead of System. Otherwise, the process is similar.
The last bit of housekeeping is to make sure a valid Apple ID is logged into the Apple TV. The majority of streaming apps are free in the App Store, but you might still need to be logged in with a legit payment method on file to make the App Store play nice with you. If you don’t have an Apple ID, it’s a little weird that you got an Apple TV, but Apple’s support website has simple instructions for making one.

Apple recently added the Apple TV identifier for universal apps to iTunes on iOS, which makes it easier to figure out which iOS apps are compatible with Apple TV. The identifier is not yet available in iTunes on desktop computers, but will likely be added later.
If you download an iOS game that is also available on tvOS, it will automatically appear in the Purchased section of Apple TV’s App Store. Any tvOS-compatible apps or games that you’ve downloaded or purchased in the past will also be available in the Purchased section.
In the Purchased section, you can filter your apps by recently added or updated, or by category.
Currently, there is still no way to view Apple TV-exclusive apps in iTunes.
