How Do I Connect My iPhone To A Roku Streaming Device
There are a couple ways iPhone and iPad users can wirelessly connect their devices to a Roku streaming device.
Cast from your iOS device by doing the following:
Use the Play on Roku feature of the Roku app by doing the following:
Mirror Your TV With Smart View
Important: Make sure your TV is turned on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your phone. Some TVs may require you to switch inputs or turn on screen mirroring. Compatibility with non-Samsung TVs may vary or may not be available. Check your TV’s user manual for specific details. SmartView is not an app you download on your phone and is located in the quick settings panel.
Make a big statement by projecting photos or videos from your phone or tablet onto your TV. You can also do the opposite and stream your TV to your phone’s or tablet’s screen!
Open the Quick settings panel by swiping down from the top of the screen using two fingers. Then swipe to and tap the Smart View icon.
Note: If the Smart View icon does not appear, try swiping left. If it still doesn’t appear, your device may not be compatible, or it may need to be added to the panel.
Tap your TV from the list of Available devices. Enter a PIN or allow access to complete the connection if prompted.
Your device’s screen will now appear on the TV. If you want to stream the TV’s screen to your phone or tablet, and the TV supports it, tap Other device Phone. To switch back, tap Phone Other device.
When you are done using Smart View, tap the Smart View icon on your phone, and then tap Disconnect. If you need help editing the icons in the Quick Settings panel, check out our guide.

Plug In With A Usb Data Cable
Nearly all smartphones and tablets can plug into a TVs HDMI port using a USB cable like this 6-foot Data Cable for USB-C. Once connected, you can project your phones display onto your TV whether youre checking out pictures, watching videos, surfing the web, using apps or playing games. All it takes is one cable, so theres no need to connect via Wi-Fi or remember any passwords.
The longer your USB cable is, the better — especially when youre sitting far away from your TV. Check out this 10-foot Charge and Sync Lightning to USB Cable for a convenient, lengthier option.
Install Streaming Software On Your Smart TV
The Nvidia GeForce Experience software comes bundled in with streaming capabilities, known as Nvidia GameStream. This was designed so people could stream games from their PC to other hardware sold by Nvidia the Nvidia Shield tablet, or Shield TV set top box unit but it can also be used with third party applications, so youre not locked into Nvidias hardware ecosystem.
Youre going to need to onto your smart TV. It used to be called Limelight so they changed the name. If you have Limelight installed youll want to upgrade it, because the new versions are drastically improved.
If youve not downloaded an app onto your smart TV before it can be a little fiddly. Youve probably never bothered to sign in with a Google Play account on your telly, but once youre done inputting your username and password with a remote control then the process is easy enough.
Its worth pointing out that you dont have to stream PC games to your Android smart TV. You can in fact , including Android mobile phones and tablets, Windows PCs and laptops, Apple iOS devices and more. If youve got a tablet hanging around Moonlight gives you the ability to create a ghetto Nvidia Shield with no extra hardware cost, which is pretty great too, but everything looks better on a massive telly.

Plug In An Hdmi Cable
The most obvious approach is to simply connect an HDMI cable between the phone, tablet, or laptop and the TV. Of course, while virtually all modern televisions will have a spare HDMI port, the same cant be said for mobile devices. A few tablets and laptops have mini- or micro-HDMI sockets, but less so in recent times. Current smartphones definitely dont.
There are plenty of cables to help get around that issue, but as usual, the devil is in the details. A high-quality USB C to HDMI cable will do the job for modern devices with a USB C port, but the device needs to support both USB C 3.0 and DisplayPort Alternate Mode.
None of my phones or tablets, even brand new ones, have that support built in. You may have better luck with other devices, especially Samsung ones, so just be sure to double-check the exact specifications and reviews of your device before you buy. Recent laptops are much more likely to support this: the above cable works perfectly with both a Macbook Pro and a Lenovo Yoga 920.
If youve got an older Android device with a micro-USB port, you may be able to use either a Slimport or active MHL adapter to do the same thing. Again, its important to make sure your phone or tablet supports one or the other standard before purchase.
What Do You Need
- TV with an unused HDMI port
When buying HDMI cables, theres a huge selection to choose from.
Think about your budget, interests and most common uses. Also bear in mind the cable will need to run from the back of your TV to your iPhone so make sure you buy one thats long enough.
Additionally, when buying any cables making sure that your iPhone and iOS software are compatible with the one you choose.

What Is Streaming TV
Streaming TV is also called internet TV. If youre like most people, youve heard this term many times, but you still dont know how to define it exactly. Dont worry here comes a simple explanation.
To begin with, streaming is a way of transmitting or receiving data over a computer network. It is a continuous flow that allows for accessing a piece of the data while the rest is still being received. Kinda like listening to a simultaneous interpreter.
This means you can start watching a video while the rest of it is still loading. You dont need to decompress it or save it first.
Okay. So if you want to stream TV, you need a device that connects to the internet, be it a smart TV or a laptop. More on that later.
Right. Now lets see

Stream From Pc To TV With Chromecast
Pros: Easy setup, inexpensiveCons: High-resolution content may lag or stutter over a wireless network.
Setup overview: Chromecast plugs into a TV or displays HDMI port and draws power from a USB port on the television. In the absence of a USB port, Chromecast can plug into to an AC wall socket. Once connected, Chromecast joins the Wi-Fi network, and other devices on the network are then able to stream content through the Chomecast onto the TV. Basically any Apple, Android, or Windows device supports the Chromecast app.
Chromecast comes in stick and dangling form factors.
The device itself comes in two form factors, a stick-like chassis that resembles a USB thumb drive, or round, dangling unit designed for better receptivity.
Limitations: Quality of streaming may vary depending on available Wi-Fi network bandwidth.
Pro Tip: Use the 5 GHz channel on a dual-channel wireless router for Chromecast. It tends to encounter less interference than the 2.4 GHz channel.

Method : Media Servers
Required Transmitter: PC, Mac, Android device or iOS deviceRequired Receiver: Almost any computer, mobile device, streaming player or game console
Although media servers require a few minutes to set up, theyre a much more reliable and efficient way to stream content than screen mirroring is.
Media server programs essentially turn your PC into a remote server that streams video to a receiver thats hooked up to your TV. Receivers will often optimize video streamed from media servers, regardless of the format its saved in, making it a good choice for anyone with a Wi-Fi connection thats not reliable enough for perfect screen mirroring.
Quality media server programs are a dime a dozen, especially on Windows and Android. While we cant discuss the specifics of every single program on the market, well give one free-software recommendation per system. If youre curious about other options, just search for media server on Google and see what comes your way.
No matter which system you use, I do have one recommendation: Put all of your media in a single, easy-to-find location call it something like Media,Media Server or Video Collection. Keeping everything in one place will make your media server easy to navigate, and it will keep out all of the ancillary video and audio files from elsewhere on your system.
Use Google Chromecast Ultra
If cords arent your thing, try a gadget that plugs into your TV, connects to Wi-Fi and communicates between your phone and the big screen. Googles Chromecast Ultra lets you play video in breathtaking 4k resolution. It plugs into a TVs HDMI port and connects via your existing Wi-Fi, so you can stream movies, music and games from your smartphone, tablet and other connected devices.
