The type of display you choose will have a huge bearing on your TV’s picture performance. Without a doubt, OLED has become the premium TV technology of choice, thanks to its perfect blacks, extraordinary contrast and exceptional viewing angles. QLED, which combines LED backlighting with ultra-vibrant Quantum Dots, is a strong alternative, though, largely thanks to being capable of greater brightness and punchier colours. Meanwhile, standard LCD TVs are more variable in overall quality but, if you shop carefully, can offer excellent bang for your buck.
But visuals aren’t everything and it’s important to decide if want to combine your new TV with a dedicated sound system. We’d always recommend doing so as most TVs sound passable at best, even at the high-end. Sony XR-75X90J, Sony XBR-75X900H, TCL 75R635, Vizio P75Q9-H1, Hisense 75U6GThese 75-inch TVs sell for $2,000 or less, while most of our top models in this screen size cost $2,600 or more. All these sets have overall picture quality that earns Very Good or better ratings, but the HDR performance is mixed.
The Sony XR-75X90J, a 2021 model thats currently selling for about $1,600 though its listed in the box below for more, also has great overall picture quality, but does a better job with HDR. However, its not quite as good for sound. The Sony XBR-75X900H, from 2020, has similarly impressive picture quality but its HDR performance is below that of its sibling.
The TCL 75R635, which uses Mini LED backlights, does very well for overall picture quality, and its the only model in this group to earn top marks for HDR effectiveness. The Vizio P75Q9-H1 has also satisfying overall picture quality, as well as effective HDR performance. The Hisense 75U6G, a 2021 set, doesnt do as well for HDR, but its relatively inexpensive for its size and features.

A good rule of thumb for TV sizing is to measure, in inches, the distance between where you will be sitting and where the TV will be. Then, divide that distance in half. So if your couch is about 11 feet from where your TV will be wall mounted or on a dedicated stand, a 65-inch TV will be just about perfect for your space.
You can always go a bit bigger or smaller depending on what’s available and what fits your budget, but you don’t want a screen that’s too big or too small for your room.
