What Is The Plot Of The New Constantine TV Show

Constantine Season 1 First Look Clip (2017) CW Animation Series

As the project is so early in its development, theres no news yet on which storylines the show will follow. Theres a long history to draw from, with the character first appearing in issue 37 of The Saga of Swamp Thing back in 1985.

After that Constantine starred in his own series, called Hellblazer, that ran for over 300 issues, spanning 25 years. Since then its been rebooted as Constantine, Constantine: The Hellblazer, The Hellblazer, and currently goes by John Constantine: Hellblazer.

In all these series, the titular character is a British detective who specialises in the occult. He comes from a long lineage of powerful sorcerers, but often chooses to use his cunning to overcome the various enemies he faces. These have included the devil, the king of the vampires, and a powerful demon called Nergal whom Constantine summoned to try and save a young girls life, but brought terrible consequences instead.

Always know for his signature trench coast and continual smoking, Constantine is a cynical, disillusioned figure that somehow still finds it in his heart to try to help people. Perhaps his most famous story, as was alluded to in the Keane Reeves movie, is when he tricks the First of the Fallen out of claiming the soul of his dying friend.

If you like dark, gritty, morally ambiguous adventures with a supernatural edge, then Constantine should be at the top of your to-watch list.

The Umbrella Academy Recap: 207 Ga For Ga

Constantine focuses on the roots of magic so a part of this show takes place in New Orleans introducing the audience to Papa Midnite, a voodoo priest, and the Brujeria, a sinister organisation that is involved in the rising darkness John has to fight against. In fact, you see people using raw magic, reading spells, and mixing potions. Magic, which is not fun or nice to mess with.

Plenty of Potential

Taking magic out of the picture, the show has a lot of potential. During the 13 episodes the audience gets introduced to the characters, but they do not really get to know them. So for those of you who have not read the comics, it may not be easy to understand the characters fully. From Johns past in Newcastle and how Chas got his powers and what he had to give up, to Zed who clearly does not know what she really can do with hers, you can see that these complex character arcs bring something to series and even though you only see glimpse, it will make you ask for more.

Dedicated Main Actor

There are actors who simply play a role and take their paychecks and when the show is over, they just look for something new. But then there are actors who really are dedicated and feel responsible for the character they have to become and one of these actors is Matt Ryan.

We hope that you will take a look into this show! If so, please tell us if you like it in the comments below!

Since their launch in 2018, DC Universe has produced a number of original series that introduces several iconic characters from the comics to the small screen. With the live-action shows, there are Titans, Doom Patrol, the newly launched Stargirl show, and the short-lived Swamp Thing series. Despite launching outside The CW, these shows ended up becoming Arrowverse-adjacent thanks to Crisis on Infinite Earths. Excluding Titans, the other shows are available to stream outside DC Universe, with Doom Patrol season 2 set to air on HBO Max as well as on the DC digital platform. Swamp Thing’s only season was recently acquired by The CW as it will be getting a broadcast airing this fall. Stargirl is also airing on The CW, with the episodes becoming available on CW Seed after its broadcast airing.

Where To Watch Arrowverse Shows Online

When it comes to the Arrowverse shows, the franchise goes beyond the shows that are currently airing on The CW, thanks to Crisis on Infinite Earths. Sticking specifically to those that are set on Earth-Prime, Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Black Lightning are all available on Netflix. It remains to be seen how long that will last as they could be heading to HBO Max in a few years depending on when Warner Bros. TV’s contract with Netflix ends. The only Arrowverse series that is available on HBO Max is Batwoman as the new WarnerMedia digital platform had acquired the streaming licenses for it ahead of its premiere. That implies that any new DC TV show The CW produces will now land on HBO Max instead of on Netflix.

Where To Watch Other Dc TV Shows Online

While there are plenty of Arrowverse shows that are connected through Earth-Prime or the new Multiverse, there are several shows that have nothing to do with that franchise. The entire run of the Batman prequel series Gotham as well as Vertigo-based dramedy iZombie is available on Netflix. With HBO Max up and running, Watchmen now has its one and only season available to stream. Additionally, there is another Batman prequel that is still airing with EPIX’s Pennyworth that has the entire first season available on their site. When it comes to Vertigo shows, there is also Preacher, which has its four seasons available on Hulu. Syfy continues to stream Krypton with both seasons available on their website while season 1 can be found available on DC Universe, too.

Additionally, DC Universe also has several live-action shows available in their library with Adventures of Superman, Shazam!, Wonder Woman, Superboy, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Human Target and the Aquaman pilot starring Justin Hartley, from before he joined Smallville as the Green Arrow. While they lasted only for one season, DC Universe also has the original The Flash series and Birds of Prey, both of which became part of the Arrowverse as those Earths got destroyed prior and during Crisis on Infinite Earths.

A Constantine Show Is Coming To Hbo Max

Constantine – Can You Hear The Silence

John Constantine, DC Comics blonde, chain-smoking, bisexual wizard, has been a popular target for adaptation over the years. Keanu Reeves played him in a 2005 movie, and Matt Ryan stepped into the role for a 2014 NBC series. His character was so popular that he crossed over into the Arrowverse, where hes a fixture on Legends of Tomorrow to this day. And now, Variety has learned that theres a new Constantine show coming to HBO Max, with a new actor to be cast as a younger version of the supernatural detective.

Clearly theres something about this guy that has people coming back for more. And WarnerMedia likely has grand plans for him. Per Variety, a Constantine show will likely feed into Justice League Dark, an HBO Max show about a team of spooky superheroes like Swamp Thing, Madame Xanadu, Deadman and Doctor Mist. Think of how Netflix had all those Marvel shows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, etc that eventually fed into The Defenders and youll get an idea of what WarnerMedia is going for.

Its all part of a bigger strategy to build out HBO Maxs content library. We also have a show about the Gotham City police department coming up, which will tie into Matt Reeves upcoming The Batman movie, as well as James Gunns Peacemaker, a spin-off of his The Suicide Squad movie.

HBO Max is coming for Marvels lunch. Whether theyll actually succeed in eating it, well find out.
